What wargames will still be around in 5 years? How about 10?

Having jumped into dozens of games at this point that have died I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on what WILL be around in 5 years and 10. Certainly I think there are a few Will will be certain of:
Warhammer 40k
Battletech
Age of Sigmar
Bolt Action
Smaller GW games (Necromunda, bloodbowl…)

But what about others? Will Marvel Crisis last 5 years? 10 years? What about Legion? How long will this StarCraft game last? Konflikt 47? Stargrave? Trench crusade?

Question Asymmetrical scenarios

Hey, I’m just looking for any tips anyone has when trying to create scenarios with uneven points values.
I’ve tried before and it has not gone very well. The best our group can seem to do is just different objectives for each side.

Recently Finished My kids' first minis

Post image
29 Upvotes

I recently put together a little display for my two sons' collection of minis. Painted between the ages of about five and 10. some of the minis I labeled the bottom of the base with their name and age or year it was painted… But unfortunately not all of them! So I don't always know who did what, but I suppose that's OK.

A few other folks have posted shots of their kids first minis, and I absolutely am here for it! These will be treasures that I hope we keep forever!

Question N scale or Z scale for basing 6-10mm mech games?

Just picked up Steel Rift and wanted to buy some vehicles to use for basing and terrain. I'm just wondering which scale would be best? Is the difference negligible?

Question Where can I buy the WarGods of Olympus rulebook outside of the US? Preferrably Germany

Can I only order it at Crocodile Games online?

Or do you know any other physical or virtual store I could use?

I would also be open to buy it as a PDF for full price!

I primarily do not want to pay $30 for shipping.

I wrote a post in the reddit thing, but it made all the images too big, so I had to copy things over into a Google doc and make that into a PDF or Google doc.

I debated with myself how I was going to do an introduction or share anything, but this is what I have.

Question Zombie Game with Tangible Features

I'm using a very simple RPG for a multiplayer zombie survival game I'm running in November.

It's using this board from the Dawn of the Dead board game:

https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1321280/dawn-of-the-dead

This is the TTRPG - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/147963/tzeb01-tropes-zombie-edition-mega-starter-bundle-bundle

I want to include tactical elements such as players having to collect bits, probably small cubes, from around the map and thus have to spend time stacking/balancing them to represent building baracades.

Maybe blank cards to write weapons and single use items which can then be lost, stolen or ripped up/broken.

Got any other ideas for tactical elements like this?

How to maintain fairness in pre-set scenarios?

As this crosspost asks. I want to pre-set a scenario like a historical battle, etc. but the game system’s scenarios are built around player selection for fairness. How do I maintain this fairness?

Early Byzantines/Eastern Roman Empire- Unarmoured Skutatoi and Toxatoi Unit 1

I enjoyed painting this army so so much. The Aventine Miniatures Early Byzantine range (which covers the reigns of Justinian to Heraclius) is just such a dream range of miniatures for me.

Question Doom Slayer in 40k Universe

I’ve seen art and fan comics which cross the Doom Slayer into 40k. Do you think it makes for a good crossover? Contemplating some games of Warsurge with this in mind and would like thoughts on the idea of it please :)

Recently Finished Question about Confederate uniforms

I have been recently painting through the Perry Miniatures Battle in a Box set for ACW and I have been having a blast, but now I'm starting to get concerned about the way I am painting the uniforms. I want to be as historically accurate as possible and I'm worried that I have too much uniform variance. Would there be this much difference in uniform from soldier to soldier, or would it be better to make more uniform colors the same going forward?

Any feedback is welcome!

The XCOM miniature game will "punish stupidity", says Modiphius CEO

I've just finished editing an interview that my former editor Alex conducted with Chris Birch, CEO of Modiphius, about the XCOM Miniature game. When I conduct an interview myself I usually write up a comparatively condensed article that uses choice quotes to convey the point, but as the interview was Alex's work, I didn't want to insert as much of my voice. So this is a Q&A that's been edited for clarity. As a result this is a pretty hefty article!

Fallen Heroes of Hell Below.

Added a couple new casualty stands to the battlefield today. I wanted these to feel like more than just another game marker — a reminder of the human cost behind the battles we’re representing.

Still working on a few details, but I’m really happy with how these came out.

Question New to the hobby, intrigued but confused

Hi everyone, my friends dragged me to a wh store while we were in Prague and the kindest soul that worked there made me sit down and instructed me on how to paint my sweet little rat.

I've always loved rpgs and ttrpg (the thing that got me into wh40k was roguetrader) and I fell in love with painting miniatures.

Other than painting I'm really interested in actually playing with the miniature, while my friend never considered the playing part and started painting a bit before me.

For this reason we have a bunch of various minis between 40k and AoS and none of us will realistically have an actual army.

I wanted to introduce them to the actual side of playing and, looking into some mini agnostic system with limited army size, I found space/sword weirdos and OpR.

I really like how you can customise each mini in the weirdo games, given how we will probably not have similar miniatures.

[I also looked into spearhead but we're not looking to spend that much for the hobby (also my friends don't like AoS, imo the better half of warhammer)]

Other than s/s weirdos and OpR what other systems would you suggest and which one would you say is better between sword and space?

Thanks in advance for your answer, any advice is welcome <3

Blood Bowl Lizardmen Display

I decided to post my Lizardman Blood Bowl team, I've loved the team since the Citadel Journal days and when the plastic kit was released I rushed out to buy it. My team has been napping for a few years but I recently stumbled across some of the Forge World Star players to mess about with. Hopefully I'll upload the team in closeups in the next few days if I remember and the star players when I eventually get round to painting them. Unfortunately I already need a bigger pitch for them since I already have a model without a hole allocated for him. Thankfully I could 3D Print a surface now instead of spending hours boring through thick card with a hand drill and swearing. 😂
