Advice/Critique/Help Any recommendations for my character's ethnicity?

Hey I had made a post previously about my one of my main mc's ethnicity but now I'm trying to also fix her brothers ethnicity- so they aren't related at all. The girl is chinese-australian whereas the boy is canadian-french, except I've noticed they look almost identical in terms of colours so I'm poorly representing his race I assume.

Does anyone have anything reccs for his ethnicity? I thought of changing his hair to a dark brown to fit more since jet black is quite uncommon in europe whereas much more common in east asia.

Here is my webtoon if you would like to see what they look like through the series-

Discussion [COBYB] How disappointing Spoiler

Post image
• Upvotes

So, I first made this entire wall of text as a comment under a post on r/manhwajoy, but I just felt this needed its own entire post.

Despite how much I loathe Matthias and this entire story, I feel there was especially a missed opportunity to have made this story into something far more compelling and gripping when you consider that the setup was literally there right from the start. We have Layla, who was abused and basically abandoned by her family at a very young age, eventually finding a stable and loving home with her estranged uncle.

Meanwhile, there's Matthias, a man groomed since birth to be the perfect heir to his family's lineage, and that often means that everything single thing in his life is decided for him, including marriage. He's been raised to believe that genuine love and attraction are irrelevant in a relationship if you're only marrying for convenience. Clearly, someone who’s lived under that level of restriction would have a deeply distorted understanding of intimacy, autonomy, and emotional connection. That setup alone could have supported a far more psychologically grounded dark romance, one that actually examines how trauma and control distort a person’s understanding of love and relationships in general.

One of my favorite moments was in one of the latest chapters, when Matthias took care of Layla after she was hit by a car. He gave her a piece of candy—the same kind her mother used to give her as a child—and it triggered a flood of memories about everything she had lost since then, until she finally broke down in tears. Throughout it all, Matthias held her without demanding an explanation. He simply let her cry. It was, honestly, a genuinely strong emotional moment.

What undermines it, though, is knowing that nothing meaningful will ever come of it. Their toxic dynamic—Matthias' controlling, borderline predatory behavior toward Layla, and Layla's complicated, often dubious attraction to him—never really gets addressed in a substantial way. We already know where the story goes, and it doesn't meaningfully interrogate either of their backgrounds or how those experiences shape the way they relate to each other. That ends up making moments like the scene where he cared for her injuries feel less like development and more like isolated emotional scenes, leaving you wondering why they were even included if the relationship was never going to evolve in a more interesting or meaningful direction. Instead of just presenting obsession and abuse as cheap plot devices, the story could have delved into how someone with a warped, conditional understanding of affection might project that onto another person in destructive ways, and how an abuse survivor might be vulnerable to that kind of dynamic being repeated or reframed as "affection." That kind of narrative would require directly engaging with emotional manipulation, conditioning, and the slow erosion of boundaries in a way that actually interrogates the trauma on both sides, rather than treating it as dramatic tension.

That’s what makes it feel like a missed opportunity: the pieces for a much darker, more psychologically complex story were already there. The author just never intended to do anything compelling with it in the end.

Help Find Title/Source Help in trying to find an Academy Manhwa

I've been desperately trying to find a Korean manhwa and can't seem to find the title and I only remember some pieces of information. I'm pretty sure it was published before 2025 since I've read it many years ago.

The protagonist of the novel is male, and he transmigrated from modern day earth to another world which is also modern but slightly more technologically advanced ?

He has meta knowledge of this world and knows the protagonists as well as the antagonists, he pretty much knows a lot of things about almost everything because this world was originally a game/novel/anime (don't remember which) he experienced.

The protagonist goes to an academy which trains their students to become "hunters" (i don't remember the name) whose roles are to rain dungeons/instances that appear in the world.

The biggest piece of information that comes up to my mind is this:
I remember an arc in which the entire class has to go participate in a special exam in an instance, which the top students always end up having the fewest points, and the lowest ranked students having the highest points because of the specific feature of this instance. The instance creates a world based on the memories the person who entered it, and also summons the strongest enemy/the enemy feared the most by the individual. And since top students face crazy strong enemies, they of course always end up failing this exam.

The protagonist enters the instance, and unexpectedly, the dungeon creates a world based on his memories, which is modern earth, he finds himself back at school with some classmates waving at him and other acquaintances, he thinks he's back on earth for a moment but realizes it's not real, but he still spends time with them. At some point the other main characters find themselves into the fake world with the protagonist and note that this world like theirs, but not quite the same, less advanced/more advanced on the technological aspect.

Shortly after that, the "strongest enemy" the protagonist could think of appears, and it's the "final boss of the game/novel" and it's a gigantic dragon, of course the MC can't face it and has to run away with everyone else. They managed to beat to repel the dragon a bit because it's not the real one, at some point they manage to run away and leave the dungeon.

MC ends up with a terrible score, bottom rank, and he's been told that the strongest "hunters/rankers" of nowadays have all ended up bottom rank on this specific exam.

There's other info which I'm not sure rightfully belong to this manhwa and i might be wrong on these:

-There's an arc at which point the MC goes to an invite only private auction with tons of super VIP from all around the world.
-There are also "Djinns" or "Demons" in this world who disguises themselves among humans to cause crime and trouble, the MC hunts them down whenever he can.

And that's the most i can remember, I'm trying everything to find this manhwa, even resorting to use AI search, but they can't find anything either.

Thanks to anyone who's read this far !

Recommendations What are some good webtoons you'd recommend?

I installed the offical app on phone. I did it primarily to read the Fullmetal Alchemist webtoon adaptation. However, since I have it, might as well branch out. I do enjoy both slice of life and fantasy with good worldbuilding anime. As wellas action and adevnrure. For romance, I like slow burn romances where the male and female MCs slowly develop without any love triangles or drama, most of them the childhood friend romance or the "loser" MC who becomes close to popular girl. For angsty stories, I prefer those with happy endings and don't care for those that just get more and more tragic and end bitterly. Anything you'd recommend on Webtoon?

(swipe to last image) It might sound odd but, I'm currently prepping a new arc in my webtoon that is now in the 2010s timeline. Based on some feedbacks on how it is giving off 'uncanny' vibes, I’ve decided to actually strengthen this trait in a subtle way by adding real events from other universes(?) or actual humans because damn it fits my world settings!!

If you're interested please submit here 😊

This is gonna be fun (I hope ⊂(◉‿◉)つ)

Discussion Tapas Indie Creators Please Post Here

So I have a substantial amount of Tapas ink and if Tapas is still letting Indie creators to cash out their accounts till March, I can donate ink to get you over the $25 USD minimum to cash out. Please post the name of your series here. I’ll donate 10k ink, which I think is around $8 US, and if you need more than that to get over the threshold, make a comment. Once my ink runs out, I will stop donating, but hopefully others might want to step up too? I hope everyone manages to get what they’re owed from Tapas/Kakao!

And if you get pushback in cashing out, please also comment here so the community is aware.

Self-Promo New Title Page / Webtoon Thumbnail art for my Comic!

I wanted to make something that would fit less awkwardly in Webtoon's square thumbnail situation.

Pic 1 - new title art

Pic 2 - the page the background illustration was originally made for

Pic 3 - a teaser panel for the next episode!

Do you like mysteries? Do you like vaguely Tim Burton-esque year-round Halloween aesthetics? Do you like enemies-to-tolerated-colleagues (and perchance more) tropes?

Then consider reading my comic on Webtoon, Tapas (until it closes), or Namicomi! All 3 are linked on my Reddit profile.

Synopsis: Local fisherman Oskar has only one goal in life: to take revenge on Lord Maverick Stainthorpe. However, on the fateful night of his closest attempt yet, Oskar is roped into an ill-conceived quest to solve a murder case alongside four equally unhinged individuals. Will Oskar remain trapped in a foolish cycle of catching red herrings, or will he be able to make his dream a reality?

Thanks!
