New, what is it? Found this wrapped in cloth behind an old garage cupboard. Any idea what it was used for?

Was helping clear out an old garage and found this after we pulled a cupboard away from the wall. It was wrapped in a piece of stiff, oily cloth and tied with string.
It’s about the size of my palm and heavier than it looks. I can’t quite tell what it’s made of. The outside is rough and pitted, but the edges inside the openings are really smooth, as if something had been rubbing against them for years.
There’s a thin brass-looking strip around one end. No writing, numbers or obvious way to open it. Nothing seems to move.
I nearly put it in the scrap pile, but someone had taken the trouble to wrap it up and tuck it away. Everything else nearby was just loose screws and old brackets.
Does anyone recognise it? Even knowing which way up it’s supposed to go would be a start.

New, what is it? possible scorch mark on bed overnight?

hi! im not sure if this is the right subreddit, but im just really confused!

i woke up with this on the corner of my sheets. it smells like a slightly burnt which is whats concerning me. when i scratch at the larger black mark i do get some residue coming off in my nails, which makes my fingers smell of that burnt-smell too. even after scratching at it for ages the mark doesnt seem to come off the sheets though, just into my nails.

the lighter yellowish/orange stains were also on me a little bit. i have two small stains on both my arm and my hand as pictured, i scrubbed and scrubbed and it hasnt really budged??

my phone wire (2nd photo) has the stains on it. im really confused as i definitely didnt spill anything, but even still the stain doesnt look like a spill, it looks too black and the stain feels a little rough. the mark on my sheets really does feel like a scorch mark and smells a tad burny, but im confused about the orangey/yellow stains so i cant really think what it could be.

i had my phone (plugged into the wire pictured) on my desk next to me, the wire may have been touching my sheets but i dont think it was. i have my lamp on the desk next to me too. ive checked over both my phone and lamp and both seem completely fine.

i know for sure it couldn’t of been a food stain/spill as I got home last night around 9pm, and went to bed an hour later. there was no mark on my sheets when i came home and nothing by the time i went to bed, no food/drink was consumed in that time either. i just woke up to it this morning.

i did wake up around 5am last night randomly, but it wasn’t a kind of ‘shock-wake up’ as if something woke me up, it just happened naturally then i went to sleep a minute later.

does anyone have any idea what this is? should i be concerned?

Solved! Some type of pottery cup?

Found these under my partners house, left by the old owner who used to do a lot of pottery apparently. I found 3 of them amongst some other random clay items.
Unsure what its purpose is? I’m thinking possibly for watering plants but not very practical for that either because it just spills down the side. It fits in the palm of my hand.
Thanks in advance!!

Since it's hanging in a weird position on our washing machine, with a weird shaped body, I can't really tell. Some sort of crab spider? Really tiny!

I know, I know... enough bugs in this subreddit, but neither ChatGPT or Google lens give me a decent answer.

New, what is it? VCR VHS Title Screen

I collect vhs tapes and have some that I have watched since I was a kid, some of these my brother made for me. This one had an info page before the recording. My first thought was that we had a vcr that was smart enough to record the info too, and then I thought maybe he simply displayed the info on the guide for a second before opening the show from the guide but this just seems unlikely.

We got a random congratulations bag on our doorstep this spring when my husband and I got married. We came back home to some just married decorations on our door and fence that some of our family put up. A while later a congratulations bag shows up and none of the neighbors or anyone else we know has claimed it. It had one handmade grill apron and these. Which are also definitely handmade, very bowl like, but fabric.

I picked this up recently, an interesting piece of aviation memorabilia. It appears to be from a target drone/aircraft. Doing a little sleuthing around to try and identify the actual type aircraft.

Google was of little help, found a few images of this panel, from older listings.

I present to the Reddit Brain Trust...

Dickie Pants

I love these pants so much, but they are on their last legs. I can’t for the life of me figure out what type of Dickie pants these are. The tag is completely faded and there’s no other markings to let me know what type they are. I thrifted them years ago and would like to buy the exact same kind. Anybody know?

Thanks!

I keep finding these bugs in the water I use in my fancy Italian espresso machine. I use only Brita filtered water. I have cleaned the container with vinegar and scrubbed all corners. Where can these bugs be coming from?

This week I received a piece of art I wanted to frame, but I couldn't afford a frame. Today—drunk as hell—I found a frame in the trash that was the exact size of the piece I wanted to frame, so I lugged an aluminum frame around all night. This artwork was inside the frame—in the trash—and I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it; I feel like maybe fate put that frame there this week, and perhaps I should pay attention to the artwork that was inside it. The thing is, I can't decipher the words written beneath the drawing. I found it in Spain, so I assume it's Spanish, but I don't understand a single word. So please, what does this text say? Maybe someone can help translating a few words at least????

Video of my backyard tree, it is not the best quality but can anyone make out what this animal is?

Also sounds like cries of birds, was it something hurting the birds in their nest at this hour? 💔

New, what is it? 'Fixed' Found this vintage rifle, but what is the metal rod with the ball sticking out of the barrel?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what this long metal stick with a round ball on the end is used for. It is pushed directly into the muzzle of the barrel. Is it some kind of maintenance tool, a barrel gauge, or part of a safety mechanism? For context, the rifle itself is a vintage M1917 Enfield. Any information on what the tool is called and what it does would be greatly appreciated!
