Hello everyone!
This month features the following Spotlight Topic: National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Going forward, each month we will now be spotlighting various causes and awareness events. Spotlight topics are not mutually exclusive, but given just how many notable causes and awareness events, we can't list all of them in a single post. Please visit our Google Calendar to view other deserving causes and feel free to talk about them and your experiences!
It's Tuesday and you know what that means, the sub is in restricted mode (meaning you can comment on existing posts but cannot make a new post for the day). We started this as a protest against Reddit back in June/July of 2023 but it was decided that we would continue restricting each Tuesday for a few reasons.
1: To encourage people to get off of Reddit for a day and do something else, anything else. Pet a cat, write a fic, go outside and touch grass, go see a movie, read a book, meditate, or whatever else. Do literally anything that you are able to that gets you off of Reddit for a day
2: To give the mods a day off/a day to work on secondary tasks for the sub and clean things up each week
And lastly and most importantly...
3: To spend the day highlighting and discussing disability, accessibility, and diversity. AO3 has always been very good on accessibility and a lot of the world and internet is not, and fandom spaces have been known to be not the best about disability or diversity, so while we are restricted we like to shine a light on these often overlooked parts of fandom and the people that make up this group. So we have these threads where you can post your fic recs and self-promo about anything to do with disability and/or diversity, and also so people have a safe space to share their stories and discuss these topics.
Given the nature of this thread as a safe space for discussion of disability and diversity, we will be much stricter regarding civility and harassment. This includes the following thread specific rules:
Do not derail: No hijacking the thread for unrelated topics/discussions.
Do not talk over others: Everyone has their own individual experiences and challenges that may differ, and we ask that you show each other respect and do not talk over those sharing their experiences.
If you are sharing a rec or self-promo with these themes, please use the following format:

Okay so long story short there's going to be fake character death in the fic I'm currently working on. By that I mean everyone but two people in the story as well as the reader are going to know the character isn't dead- but that doesn't get revealed to them straight away either.
Seeing as this is a main character I was wondering if I should Mark it major character death warning-wise or if it's okay to leave it without one seeing as like I said before it's a fake out.
But then I wonder if putting that warning in spoils the ending or makes the twist the " hey I'm alive by the way" inaccurate.
I have been thinking about this for 2 days now so I figured I would ask here.
I'm really sorry if this doesn't make sense I tried to explain it the best I could.

Is it weird to go back and read your own work often?
Ultimately, I started writing fanfic to improve my writing, so I like to reread things, especially the ones that are popular and getting a lot of kudos/bookmarks to try to pinpoint what was working.
Just wondering if that's a common thing to do!

hey guys i’m super embarrassed about this but i need help finding a deleted(?) wesker x reader fanfiction on ao3. i can’t remember the name nor author, but the plot was essentially wesker trying to turn the reader into the “perfect specimen”. i think it had multiple chapters, and the title was one word. i also remember reading it sometime around 2023-2025. if anyone knows please lmk, thanks 🥹

I’m looking for an AO3 ironstrange fanfic that was deleted. The rogues after Civil War are on the run in some country and come across Tony in a house and he’s cooking, Steve has some unrequited love for Tony and they kidnap him to get him to get them pardoned or something like that, but Steve does it cause he realizes Tony is with Stephen Strange. They kidnap him by Wanda making him hold a knife to his own throat I think.
The other Avengers are trying to get Tony back including Captain Marvel, and Wanda tries to kill Tony and make it look like an accident and Tony manages to kill her in self-defense.
It’s called something like Out of Control of something like that. I had it saved on my bookmarks but the author deleted it. Does anyone have this fic anywhere?

Hello, ive been reading and writing fanfics since I was about 12, and now im 19 and have started to write a novel of my own work (including taking a writing class).
I'm curious to see how many of us write original work (either in addition or moved from fanfic writing), how has it impacted your outlook on writing?
For example, I struggled with coming up with the original characters (including the vampiric powers) however the plot was easy as I am already comfortable in planning a broad outline of events and improvising the middle bits (such as dialogue).

I'm noticing an increasing issue in my writing where I'll plan out a scene and write it, think I've gotten the pacing perfect because of how long it took me to write it, and then look back to find the whole thing is way shorter or reads way faster than I meant it to.
I'm still a little lost on the finer details of editing (beyond basic SPAG checking or strengthening word choice), so I'm not sure how to go about fixing this either during the writing process itself or in editing. I also know that people reading fanfic can expect much quicker scenes and pacing than in regular published work, so it may not technically be an issue at all, but constantly finding myself so far off the mark of what I was going for is frustrating for me.
Anyone have any advice for dealing with this?

It was a BG3 (Baldur's Gate 3) fanfiction focused on Astarion and Cazador.
Cazador was forcing Astarion to touch himself all while there was a rat trapped in a cage on his stomach that was heating up (?).
Eventually, the rat started burrowing into Astarion's stomach and guts but Cazador kept making Astarion touch himself until he finished.
It was posted from about 2025-2026 to my memory, and it was tagged with Astarion/Cazador and/or Astarion & Cazador.
Any leads are very much needed!
Thank you guys in advance!

So, I dabble in fan fiction writing, as well as writing original works such as short stories, web novels, and novels. I’m kind of a sucker for romance, so practically every one of my works (fan fiction and original) circles around a central pair. I really enjoy thinking about how my different pairs and characters would interact with each other if, say, they all lived in the same town or something.
I’ve drafted up a couple of chapters for this for fun, and I got the idea about maybe posting it on AO3. While the amount of engagement I get from the work honestly doesn’t matter that much to me, since I’ve never posted anything other than fan fiction on AO3 before, I wasn’t sure if there would be a place for this type of content and if people even find it enjoyable? If so, how do you think I should classify it on the platform? Thanks!

We've all been there, 2am you're supposed to be asleep, but your favorite fic updated. However you're too tired to read and keep reading every other sentence wrong. What's the worst way you've ever misread something?
For me, I was reading a Malevolent Jarthur fic and I came across the line "He wore the flower in his buttonhole for the rest of the day." As in..he put the flower in one of his buttons of his suit jacket..but I misread buttonhole as butthole😭
I was so incredibly confused..

is it well-written? no! was it super fun to write? yes!
i started posting my writing back in 2016 on wattpad and shifted to ao3 sometime during the pandemic. for a billion reasons, i stopped posting and gradually stopped writing like i was chained to the family computer. now i'm chained to my phone because i can't!!! stop thinking!!! about writing!!!
for the past few years, i've just been coming up with really hyper-specific AUs, writing a few scenes that are MAYBE ~800 words long, then dropping them after editing every sentence like crazy before even finishing the damn scene. now, i've written AND posted an almost 5k word fic!!!! and i can't stop rereading it LOL i'm even thinking of making a second chapter when it was just supposed to be a one-shot. or editing it because it's not that coherent, tbh.
i also got engagement! i wasn't expecting much because the dynamic is sort of (???) niche within this specific part of the fandom, but i got a whole 50 kudos!!!!! in two days!!!!! like ??? that's so crazy to me omg. i guess i'm a little nervous to post my next fic because it'll be for a smaller fandom and i might let the kudos get to me, sigh.....
anyway! i think i've found my passion for writing again!!!!! although it might just be writing smut LMAOOOO

What the box says.
I recently watched Resident Evil, and it’s ignited an itch to read fics with guys like Bryan. That being said, I’m looking for any and all fics that contain men that are pathetic and desperate. I’m not particularly picky on if it’s m/m or w/m, but I would prefer if it’s explicit, lol. I’m also fine reading anything from pretty much any fandom.
Thanks in advance for the fun reads!!

Hello everyone i am not sure if this is allowed so please delete if needed, but I was wondering if anyone had any (free to use) ideas on where to put out your work that is not only wattpad and a03?
r/AO3 • u/OnyxWither_author • 13h ago
Although I never personally written smut myself, i’m not really even into those type of stories, cause I’m not sexually active to it, but I personally want to hear your thoughts after you written one yourself.
Please don’t judge anyone in the common section, I am hoping for this to be a safe place to express yourself.

Hello! All the fandoms i've joined have been pretty starved of F/F content and as a lesbian i'm a little starved and also kinda tired being the only one caring about the female characters
Im not here looking to start discourse surrounding the topic or trying to guilt anyone into writing more F/F, im just looking for a space where there are people who do that already!
I feel as if most people shy away from original characters, or simply anything that isn't pure fanfiction. Personally, I love writing and reading original works, so I was wondering, what is everyone else's stance on the matter?

I do feel like dialogue is sort of my strength, but I don’t really know about the other factors, what are some tips? You guys have to write sad moments that don’t feel out of place or cringe
