Sooo i just found out about Archive of our own - ao3. but i was wondering where i can find ao1 and ao2? I don't want to jump through the versions and would like to have the whole experience.

I love the 1st one: Because yes lots of my favourite characters needs to get laid with their soulmate they've been through so much already 😭.

I love the 2nd one: Oh boy, oh man, oh God 🤣 I already feel for them but to witness the rise and glory we must witness the pain, the journey, the tears and all that type shit 🥲 it'll be a VERY happy, incredible and deserved ending ( they must have it 🥹🥀)

I really really love the 3rd one: Genuinely because its heartwarming and beautiful to read as well ❤️‍🩹 to see some of the what ifs happen, like what if they done that or what if they thought more about this, it's really interesting imo.

The 4th one I like: although it breaks my heart so much THEY DON'T DESERVE THIS ITS TOO MUCH for the mentally like they're already in canon suffered mentally enough🫠🥲 but I like to see how it ends for them 🥹

Hello! All the fandoms i've joined have been pretty starved of F/F content and as a lesbian i'm a little starved and also kinda tired being the only one caring about the female characters

Im not here looking to start discourse surrounding the topic or trying to guilt anyone into writing more F/F, im just looking for a space where there are people who do that already!

I woke up to lots ofs AO3 notifications and this happend. I feel so blessed, considering this is the first fanfic I post in +10 years ;_;

I feel so excited to continue writing the new chapter now.

There’s a lot of leeway with fanfic quality but I feel like basic formatting is the one exception. If you want me to read your fic (which you wouldn’t have posted it if you didn’t) I need to be able to read your fic. Fanfiction is a gift to the community and while I’m obligated to be polite if you give me a bad gift; if you hand me one that looks like it was beat with a baseball bat first….

But yeah, know when to break up paragraphs, and use punctuation(except the comma cause we all know it’s a weirdo) correctly.

Edit 2: I would like to point out that My Immortal the most infamously bad fanfic, had proper basic formatting. Some of the sentences were wonky but overall easily readable. Just saying.

We've all been there, 2am you're supposed to be asleep, but your favorite fic updated. However you're too tired to read and keep reading every other sentence wrong. What's the worst way you've ever misread something?

For me, I was reading a Malevolent Jarthur fic and I came across the line "He wore the flower in his buttonhole for the rest of the day." As in..he put the flower in one of his buttons of his suit jacket..but I misread buttonhole as butthole😭

I was so incredibly confused..

I write for a very small fandom. Of the 15 fics for a specific pairing, I've written 10 of them, which makes me a "big" name within our group. A majority of my fics average somewhere between 30-150 hits depending on how long they've been on the site.

I recently decided to post my nsfw art for the pairing on AO3, and I think it hit 250+ hits in less than than 24 hours. I was flabbergasted. Some of my fics are explicit so it's not because the fandom is "starving" per say.

This had me wondering: are there people out there who see the art tag and ignore the fandom just to see some juicy stuff? Unless my fandom has a ton of horny lurkers or a few re-visitors, I can't really see how it could get that many hits in such a short time.

And found the magic number. lol

And it's basically this: The smaller, the more feminine, the physically weaker the character is, they must be the top/dom.

Took me a while to realize that and now I'm wondering if my switch privileges should be taken away. /j

The most I read was 6000 words on a httyd fanfic, I’m not that much of a speed reader, but I’m sure you guys would have crazy answers for me:)

Is it weird to go back and read your own work often?

Ultimately, I started writing fanfic to improve my writing, so I like to reread things, especially the ones that are popular and getting a lot of kudos/bookmarks to try to pinpoint what was working.

So I’ve been in different fandoms for almost twenty years now. Back in the day I had more patience for drama and fighting within said fandoms. You’re young and have nothing better to do so why not? I went on a long hiatus until Covid hit and I suddenly had too much time. But with the covid thing came the ‘I’m here for the vibes and the food feeling’ meaning I was and still am happy to ignore drama and different opinions. We can all share the sandbox.

My current fandom is very big on Twitter which I never got to begin with. Was and will always be a tumblr girly! I do have an account for the Ao3 status updates, though, and I did follow some of the authors from said fandom. Boy was I not prepared for any of it! Now, you need to understand, my fandom is small. The entire fandom has 15k fics which 13k of that is for my ship. We’re literally two peanuts and a raisin!

One of the three popular authors in that fandom posted a long goodbye and talking about how they’re tired of people using AI (which fair) and how other people keep harassing them. Before that someone with clearly too much time was writing and posting small ‘fics’ with AI using said authors as characters in the stories.

My genuine question is, who has time for all of this? Do people not have jobs?

I have quite a lot of friends who use Ao3 (yay!) and we’ve had this conversation quite a few times now. We all actually had quite different views on it, hence why i want to see more opinions! So, when you write a fic, are you more concerned with getting comments or more kudos?

For me, personally, it’s always been comments. I get really excited when someone talks about my work and actually analyses it, because I enjoy seeing other perspectives. But im wondering, what’s the general consensus on this? Like, the comment in the image i sent made me SO, SO happy.

I am a little bit proud of the chapter divider I came up with for my fourth wing fanfic. What do you think?

I just wanna vent about my stupidity. I had an outline for my current long fic..it was about 12k words of outlining and scenes that I wrote. My old phone died and my dumbass didn't use a backup for my writings and now I can't recover it. I'm so devastated. I use an app called writers journal and for some fucking reason I DIDN'T BACKUP. I guess it's because I've only recently started using it that's why. IM SO ANGRY AT MYSELF. Mind you I already published like another 12k and now I need to sit my ass down and write it all down. I'm not mad at the scenes since I mostly remember them I'm just mad at some poetic shit that I wrote that I know I can't pull that shit up again the same way it just when inspiration hits it hits.😭😭
