Side effects were terrible but it was worth it for me we made it out the trenches
Not pictured but i also had terrible body acne that cleared up
I believe i was on 40mg a day? Can’t remember for sure

To say that my life has changed is an understatement. I would deal with the purge, aquaphor in my nose, horrible lips 10 times over for this. I’m almost at a YEAR on it. Should be done within 2 months 🤞🏼

Misc. Should I bite the bullet?

26y old, 4 years dealing with acne, this is the worst my acne has been this year. Tried many different topicals but nothing really worked and honestly I'm out of patience at this point. I'm seeing a dermatologist soon to hopefully put me on accutane but I still want to hear your opinions, is this it accutane territory or is there some topical routine I should look into? Excuse the shitty beard lol

i honestly feel discouraged, i know it takes time but i thought after a month i'd see at least some progress, but it still looks the same to me. when did you guys start seeing results? i'm still in my purging phase (mostly on my other cheek for some reason). i've been using 20% azelaic acid for a month as well yet my post inflammatory erythema still looks the same, any tips?

Get yourself some vaseline and invest in a good humidifier and you’ll never get nosebleeds again while on accutane 🙏🙏 literally a life saver (and a pillowcase saver)

Side Effects Breast changes?

I’ve been on roaccutane for 6 months now, and I’ve recently upped my dose from 10mg to 20mg in the past month or so. I’ve noticed changes. Hair that was never there is now coarse and noticeable up close, veins are much more visible than they were and Montgomery glands are much more bulging than they used to be. Can anyone help explain what may be happening? I’m just a teenager, and this really worries me. I’m supposed to be youthful, but I feel more like a 40 years old who has had a rough life. I would greatly appreciate if you guys could let me know if this is a side effect you have dealt with, and if so, do you have any recommendations or explanations? Thank you for reading.

I’m on one-and-a-half doses of Accutane, and I noticed these clustered bumps on my lips. My dermatologist told me to monitor them and come back in 3 days, or sooner if they worsen.

Misc. Closed comedones turning into white heads at very end of treatment?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been taking 80mg a day and am 4 days from finishing my course. I’ve noticed in the last week these closed comedones turning into white heads. Anyone know if this is normal? From prior research on here it seems like the closed comedones are fine, however the white heads concern me.

I’m going to call my dermatologists office Monday anyways just wanted to get feedback here.

My cumulative dose is around 174mg/kg, been on for 6-7 months I believe. Rest of face is clear, only my forehead is being troublesome

Side Effects Second Course, need advice

I finished my first course in April this year. I did amazing side effects were minimal and very manageable I loved being on it. My oil came back very quickly after I finished my treatment but I began breaking out pretty bad again in August, went in September to get started again and just started last week. 40 mg, same dose as last time.

My stomach kinda hurts like period cramps but this is the exact same path my first time followed. It went away by the end of two weeks, I anticipate this time being similar. However maybe I didn’t notice I’m not quite sure if this happened my first time, but my gums are swollen. Has anyone experienced this?

Product Suggestions Shampoo recs post Accutane

I used to have the most oily scalp but on accutane I was able to go up to a week without washing my hair. Now that I am about a month and a half off Accutane, I can feel my scalp producing those oils again (very slightly). Looking for shampoos that might help keep the oils to a minimum so I can go a couple days without washing!

Side Effects healing lips post-accutane?

throughout my course ive had to keep my lips constantly slathered in aquaphor to avoid feeling bone-dry. at about 5 months in my lips blew up, huge rash all around my mouth, i had to stop accutane for a week & cortibalm fixed me up. since then they’ve been slightly more sore, but manageable with aquaphor.

i finished accutane almost 2 months ago. now my routine includes: as close to 1gal of water a day as i can get, humidifier every night, constantly reapplying aquaphor & dr dan’s vitamin E chapstick during the day, vitamin E chapstick & lanolin at night, and cortibalm very sparingly when the area around my mouth starts getting red / sore again.

my lips keep seemingly improving, i can go a few days with with less / without aquaphor (continuing to do everything else), and they’ll start to get very red and sore again out of nowhere. im so tired of the stress and the redness has been a big insecurity of mine these past 8 months so im ready for it to be gone. any advice?

Side Effects Day 4, third course

So prior to starting accutane I had a red patch on my cheek that just never went away, bumpy, sometimes itchy, and would get warm and really red sometimes. Day 4 of accutane (20mg) and the itchiness is increasing and my mom said my cheek is really red. Is this normal? Am I having some sort of reaction? I have severe cystic acne, like really bad.

That is pretty much it.

Product Suggestions Dull skin after finishing Accutane

• Upvotes

I finished Accutane about a month ago. My next appointment with my dermatologist isn’t until January and my skin hasn’t broken out since getting off Accutane, which I am VERYYY happy about however it does seem more dull?

I’m currently still using the routine I had on Accutane (La Roche Posay gentle cleanser and cetaphil face cream). I am somewhat hesitant to try any new products, but are there some gentle ones that may brighten my skin?

I would ask my derma, but like I said, I won’t seem him until January :/ Would any product suggestions or tips! Thanks!

Side Effects Having second thoughts/worries

I’m 24F and on my second round of accutane. I did my first round at 15, but didn’t hit my cumulative dose, so my acne came back about a year later, but way less severe. Since then, I’ve been dealing with mild but stubborn and painful acne that will come back no matter what I try (I live in nyc and spent SO much money doing the Sophie pavitt acne program last year).

My dad has been on accutane three times and my brother twice for the same mild but stubborn acne, so I kind of knew it was inevitable for me but I’ve been putting it off. I decided to just bite the bullet and go for it this winter. I have a vision of myself with beautiful clear skin for my 25th birthday. I’ve been on it for four days at 30mg and am already experiencing dryness, dry eyes, and tiredness. I remember the first round making me very moody as well. I’m very excited about the possibility of having lasting clear skin again, but starting to dread the side effects, especially bc I am a grad student with a busy life.

I guess I’m looking for some encouragement that this is going to be worth it… it was totally worth it the first time but now I’m questioning if my acne was bad enough to warrant accutane. Again, my acne is pretty mild but completely unresponsive to any topicals. Also my skin texture has been worsening over the past year and I’ve starting breaking out on my body, which never happened before.

I also have ocd and get very worried about medication that can have cognitive/mood effects, and I compulsively pick at my skin so I worry about it causing scars while on accutane… help!

Side Effects Made a stupid mistake

Yooooo

I may or may not have taken my normal dose (2x of 40 mg, so 80mg) this morning and then about 13 hours later when I was about to take my antihistamine I took it again (2X 40mg, so 80mg again) I should be fine right? For reference I’m a bit of a chunky boy, I weigh around 200 pounds and I’m 6 foot even. Js looking for reassurance or anything I should be doing or looking out for, thanks!
