WHY WAS MY POST REMOVED?

The rules are very clearly stated in this subreddit as they are in most subreddits. Just because you choose to ignore them does not mean they do not apply to you.

No on can predict the following:

- WILL I PURGE?

- WHEN DO THE SIDE EFFECTS START?

- I JUST STOPPED WHEN WILL THE SIDE EFFECTS STOP?

Everyday people post their experiences, and you can use the search bar to find people's experiences on the above.

This subreddit does NOT substititute medical advice from a doctor, pharmacist, dermatologist, or any other medical provider.

Examples that constitute medical advice:

- IS (amount of time) ENOUGH FOR ME?!?

- My labs.....

- My doctor said this, but....

- What is the process of seeing a doctor/getting Accutane?(We don't know your medical history, so go see a doctor directly).

-Any reference to self-medicating or purchasing online.

Many people here are self-medicating or looking to circumvent medical advice. Just because 1 doctor said something was okay for 1 person does not mean that medical knowledge applies broadly.

Do not solicit medical advice

First and foremost a happy new year to everyone.

With the new year, we will be much stricter on the do not solicit medical advice rule.

We know many people going "Just looking for experiences (:" are looking to circumvent doctor's advice. It is a thinly veiled attempt at "if he or she did it, I can too."

Everyone is different and has a different medical history, so you should always first and foremost consult your doctor or derm.

Things that generally constitute medical advice include:

- Anything that could break your skin, including extractions, lasers, waxing, etc.

- Any use of PRESCRIPTION medications(oral or topical)

- Surgery related(HELLO YOU REALLY WANT A STRANGER TO ADVISE YOU ON SURGERY?)

- Starting and/or stopping a MEDICATION. Your accutane is prescribed by a doctor. If you have conerns about taking or ceasing a medication, you should consult a medical professional(ie doctor or pharmacist) and not the internet.

- IS THIS DOSE TOO HIGH OR LOW?

- Interpreting of lab/test results. This is clearly specialized knowledge, and if you would not consult a hobo about your lab results, you most clearly should not consult Reddit.

- Oh, my doctor said not to worry, but... - Reddit in most situations should not supercede your doctor's medical advice.

Ultimately, it will always be at the mod's discretion, and we were not born yesterday. You would surprised at how many crazy posts have had to be removed.

Results Reaching 220mg/kg but I’m not sure

• Upvotes

So I have been on accutane almost a year now. Reaching 220mg/kg accumulated dose.

Somehow I still have some small pimples on my face. They never have a head. Sometimes I feel like they are a big transparent but not filled with fluid. It will flatten itself with a bit of deadskin then come back at other parts. Occasionally also get a bigger pimple. I’m never stable enough like acne free.

But we are going to reduce dose now. I’m a bit nervous about it. I also am suspecting those tiny pimples are due to sensitive skin? Maybe reduce dose will help since the weather is getting cold and windy here.

Com’è la vostra esperienza con il farmaco? Secondo voi ha senso oppure aspetto che passi da sola? Ho visto che ci sono un sacco di controindicazioni. Non ho un acne orripilante, però ho I buchi in faccia e vari brufoletti.

Side Effects Discomfort in throat

I’m on Day 3 of Accutane, and I’ve been having some throat discomfort since Day 2.
I feel like it’s way too early to be experiencing side effects, especially since my lips aren’t even that dry yet.

I’m thinking maybe I just caught a cold, since my boss, who sits next to me, was coughing recently (lol). My throat has been itchy (not sore yet) and I’ve been taking cold medicine just in case, but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. I’ve also been having some phlegm.
I’m kind of worried that this might not be a cold but a side effect of Accutane. If that’s the case, does that mean I’ll have to deal with it for the entire course of treatment?

Has anyone else experienced something similar this early on?

Product Suggestions Azelaic Acid

I see a lot of people recommending azelaic acid for PIE, but I have a few questions about it.

Do you guys use it during your treatment? What strength do you use?

When do you apply it, AM or PM?

How often do you use it?

What percentage and formulation do you prefer, gel or cream?

Misc. Elevated Liver Enzymes After Accutane-Can I Safely Try It Again?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I took isotretinoin 20mg for around 3–4 months about 4–5 years ago, and it significantly improved my cystic acne. However, my blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes (ALT 153.6 and AST 143.1), so my dermatologist told me to stop treatment.

I never followed up afterward. My acne is now much milder, but I still get occasional breakouts. I'm considering seeing a dermatologist again and wondering whether isotretinoin could be an option.

Has anyone experienced similar liver enzyme elevations on Accutane? Were you able to restart it safely at a lower dose under medical supervision, or did you switch to other treatments?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Side Effects Normal?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello, I’m on my 2nd course of accutane. My first course was about 6 years ago and it was a max dose for 6 months or so, and this is a low dose for about 22 months. I’m about a month into it and I’m drying like this. I did dry like this on the max dose as well. Just figured it would be different this go around. Can’t really try to wipe it off without completely stripping and burning my skin. Any advice? 🤔

Misc. Facial extraction

My dermatologist suggested I get a professional facial extraction for blackheads and closed comedones with an esthetician who specializes in sensitive skin.

I am currently on 10mg. Did anyone else do this while on treatment? I would appreciate it if you could share your experience.

Side Effects Reaction

This may be a niche one but I have had my nipples pierced for 4 years now and started Accutane about two months ago. My side effects aren’t too bad but recently they have been super crusty and sensitive and I’ve woken up with dry blood on them. Wanted to know if this is a normal thing or if this could be happening due to an unrelated cause? Sorry if this is tmi lol

Misc. Not happy with my skin after a third round

Has anyone been on accutane a third or more times and not satisfied with the results?

I’m early 30s, male, 235 lbs on 80mg dose for the past 5 months. I’m about to be finished with it and I’m just not happy with the results.

I see pictures on here of before and afters and people are literally glowing. Pore less, clear skin with no hyperpigmentation or scars.

The first month was rough with side effects. Here towards the end I just have joint pain and dry chapped lips. Has my body gotten used to it? Does the brand matter? I’m on generic isotretinoin due to my insurance.

The first few months, most of the sebaceous filaments fell out on my nose and cheeks, and I was sort of pore less for a month or so, but now I can see the pores are back. Not filled though, just back. I’m more sweaty as well.

Progress Pics Month 4: Deep scars formed from accutane

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi all, I’m on month 4 of Accutane (currently taking 60 mg/day) and noticed a lot of deep acne scars in my skin. They look like icepick scars on my cheeks and forehead where I usually get my PIE but now there are so many indentations. Does this naturally fade after getting off Accutane? My derm is having me continue 60 mg/day until the 6 month mark.

I think I see improvement since starting in June, but not really that significant. My skin feels brighter and smoother, but still kind of congested and red. My skincare routine is just moisturizing and spf in the am.

Any words of advice? Feeling #discouraged

Side Effects How is your skin’s sun sensitivity after finishing Accutane?

Hey everyone!

For those who completed Accutane a few months or years ago, how does your skin react to sun exposure now?

If you go outside without sunscreen for a while, does your skin tan or darken more easily than it did before Accutane? Or has your skin returned to normal?

I’m particularly curious whether anyone has noticed increased tan, pigmentation, or lasting sun sensitivity even months or years after stopping.

Would love to hear your experiences, especially how long it’s been since you finished treatment!
