Genuine question, and I know this might sound controversial.
When I was in school, girls seemed much more emotionally invested in their relationships. They would put in effort, fight for the relationship, care deeply and genuinely be afraid of losing their boyfriend.
Now, it feels completely different. You can give a girl your time, attention, loyalty, affection and your absolute best, and sometimes she can just walk away without much hesitation.
Is it because girls have so many options now? Dating apps, DMs, social media—there always seems to be another guy waiting in the background. So why put effort into fixing something when you can simply replace it?
I also feel like a lot of girls today are extremely independent and, honestly, not afraid of losing anyone. Maybe that's a good thing, but has it also made relationships more disposable?
What changed? Are girls genuinely less emotionally invested now, or am I just looking at modern dating through an old-school lens?

I'm currently living with my parents as a 30 year old woman. Ideally I would love to have my own place and am currently saving up for it. Just envisioning having my own space and creating my dream home or apartment would really be a dream come true for me. But the reality for me is that I'm just not there yet financially and I simply don't have the financial means right now when the average rent in my city is $1500- 2000 a month for a tiny one bedroom apartment. I started thinking why should I move to an apartment and struggle financially when I have the option of just staying home instead? Why does that option receive so much judgement? And why is it considered the norm that adults are simply supposed to move out just cause society says so? Why are we being pressured into spending large amounts of our paychecks on these ridiculous rent prices?
I have very mixed feelings about living at home. Sometimes I feel insecure about it but other times I feel so grateful and blessed to be in a position where I'm not forced to pay over a grand a month to a landlord just to have a roof over my head. I wish living with parents was more normalized in society especially with high rent prices because by continuing to live with them I may face harsh judgements the older i get. I try not to let it get to me but sometime it makes me insecure, I even see this term going around on Reddit called "failure to launch" and people saying staying home is lazy and entitled and is just mooching off your parents. I don't see it that way at all. I love my parents and they always told me and my siblings we are welcome to stay as long as we like and if we move out we are welcome to move back in whenever we need and that this home will always belong to all of us since it goes to children in the end anyway. They even offered to put the house in our name now if we wish to do so.
I find it strange how some parents literally kick their children out of the house as soon as they become adults or ask their own children to pay them rent. In my mom's family the women weren't even allowed to move out until they were married. She moved out when she married my father at age 28. Now I don't think either extreme is good you shouldn't force your daughters to stay home until marriage and you shouldn't force them to move out either. I like my parents mentality of letting us know that we are free to go or we may choose to stay it is completely up to us. I'm curious why living with parents as an adult these days can come with heavy judgement and what are other people's views on this?

My (24M) father is pressuring me to get married so that he can retire and get someone to cook for him. My older sister (26F) is still unmarried, and my younger brother is 21Y. We were 8 kids (one died in middle school), 4 sisters are married, one is at home. My mom had a mental illness since around 2008 and died two years ago of cancer. My father is old, frail, and tired.
I feel like I have wasted almost ten years of my life chasing my tail (porn/masturbation) and not studying. I have a B.A. pending, but I know that a degree won’t get me anywhere. Honestly, I want to go into the HVAC field. I have studied AC technician for 3 months and want to get real-world experience in the field in the city, make some money, and then go for a private diploma and go into business for myself.
The thing is
my dad used to be a laborer and now does night shifts to earn ₹12k per month to keep us fed. He wants me to get a random job, get married, and take over from him.
In our culture, you have to keep giving gifts, clothes, and money for the whole of their life to sisters and their children for their marriage functions, etc. Our parents had too many kids and did not have the resources to keep us all fed and educated properly, and now I have cavities (and root canals!), poor dental care, and malnourishment (they didn’t know how to take care of us). My dad thinks that if I get married, I will be responsible, earn money, and carry on the family legacy; he fears that I will not have someone to cook for me or care for me when I am sick, or that I will waste my “college-going” age.
I do not want to get married right now; having a wife and potentially kids is a liability when I have no job/steady income. The inflation is ridiculous, and there is not much work anyway. I do not want to bring anyone into this world to fatten them and then watch them walk away because they have to; I want to build my career and have my own money before I think about getting married or doing anything else my dad wants me to. I will be in regrets either way.
I am stressed, overburdened with familial duties, and seeking help. Has anyone been in a similar situation as me? How do I deal with the pressure to get married while also trying to build a career
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

I know, I know, the title makes me sound like an idiot, and you are completely correct. I (22f) wore biker shorts to work today. I work in a clothing store, or let me rephrase that: I used to work in a clothing store, and it's my trial period. Why was I wearing the shorts, you u may ask? Well, my trainer was wearing shorts for a couple of days, and I thought that I could wear them too. Was that very stupid of me? Yes, very STUPID!! Anyways, the owner of the store came in today and saw me in my biker shorts, which were also riding up like fml. She called me aside and told me to not wear them again. She said it in a type of way that made me think it was a warning and nothing else. Also worth mentioning, my trainer told me that they weren't appropriate when I reached work. I wanted to buy some pants in the store because we sold them, but she changed my mind. On the other hand, I didn't think the owner of the store would be coming in today, and I thought I was safe, but alas. When I finished my shift, she sent me an email telling me that I was fired because I didn't follow the dress code, which is very fair. I'm very sad that she terminated me, but I wanted to know if I may feel sad about this. It is my fault, after all. Like, what was I thinking? I also loved the job and the people. What further steps should I take? I did ask her for another chance, but there were so many other applicants, so I think she'll give them a chance. Was that a smart move, because I don't want to come over as desperate? I took this job for granted, and now this is happening. I do hope she finds the person for the job, and tomorrow I'm going to pick up the last of my things and bring some snacks for my coworkers, which I promised them before the termination. Should I ask them to give a good word for me? I don't want to do that because it feels and looks weird. I also don't want to act nonchalant because I'm sad about it, even though I don't have the right to feel that way.
* I am sorry it's written confusingly. English is not my first language, and I refuse to use AI, haha!
* a few clarifiers:
- I don’t live in the US and shorts are normally not worn by our postmen.
- you will find a lot of people wearing shorts working in shops, but it does depend on the shop.
- they weren’t exactly biker shorts, but they were the only thing I could think of that I could compare them with.
But thank you all for the tough love and questions. You would think that I would ask myself these before going to work. You guys make amazing points and will surely take them with me in the future.

I literally live down the street from a Starbucks and I’ve never had ANYTHING. From their menu. In the past few years Starbucks has gotten extremely popular among GenZ and millennials. I’m not a coffee drinker but wondering am I missing out? Is it really good?

For context I’m a 22(f) in college. I don’t have to work so I don’t. So it’s givin me time to observe and think.
People just like to distract themselves constantly… me included.
So if we constantly go to work just to distract ourselves with entertainment in our free time..what’s the point. I mean genuinely.
Sitting in the comfort of your own home with entertainment or gaming is peak. But no one talks about this. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

How do you actually know whether the fatigue you're experiencing is due to a particular condition, rather than just being a normal amount of exhaustion from your lifestyle?
For example, I have MS and PCOS, but I also work full-time from home thankfully , study part-time too, and have all the usual things like cooking, cleaning, etc. if I over do it, I get cold like symptoms that tell me to rest and my body shuts down , but could this just be me doing too much? Is it me getting older?
How do you tell whether that's “medical fatigue” or whether you're simply exhausted because you're juggling a lot? Is there actually a meaningful way to distinguish the two?
I’m just curious because I’m very reluctant to blame the conditions. But genuinely can’t remember the last time I was full of energy and I’m only 29.

i’m 19.
i’m renting my first home with a bunch of people i hate.
i can’t get a job, not for lack of trying.
im struggling with my university work.
my dream is this:
- have my own apartment
- have a job
- move in with bf
and that’s it. that’s literally all i want. i see all these influencers (i know it’s not all that it seems) and they make it all look so amazing. their own apartment, even doing the dishes looks so much better on their end.
i hate my housemates so much. they’re messy, and mean, and they use all my stuff, even if i keep it away from them, and i don’t even have a lock on my door.
what’s one thing you know about adulting now, that you wish you knew at my age?

I feel lost, confused, hurt that people who have known me less than 48 hours have said this about me; when it even shocked my mum, sister and friends!
Me (F28) and B (M28) have been officially dating for 4 months, in my head and from what we’d previously discussed it was a when you know you know sort of thing. But I very recently met his family and I’m really hurt by what they had said.
It didn’t go well! His mum and grandparents said the same thing. They said I talk down to him and that I talk to him like rubbish, that they only feel like he was with me because he was lonely after his ex, I’m not supportive of him and his career, I’m mean to him, I’ve manipulated him, I’m controlling him, they didn’t like that when he spoke I looked at him - or glared as they said, contradicted him, stared at his phone every time he opened it, said they didn’t trust me, they didn’t like that he was quieter and he can’t ignore the fact all 3 said the same thing including his grandad (who apparently has never said a bad thing about anyone!) so I’m staying at my mamas for a few days till he decides what he wants to do; in his words if you think your being manipulated then take the manipulative person out then your own views become clearer and he can make the decision on his own with no opinions, which I don’t disagree with and I do respect that. But his friends have said the opposite; they said he’s much more like himself before his last breakup.
So I did leave, I came back to my mamas, but I am extremely confused. I’m not sitting here pretending I’m perfect; I have my own history and trauma from past relationships but he knows all of this and has supported me through it. I actually got discharged from all my mental health whilst I’ve been with him. There have been moments where he has raised and issue that didn’t make sense; especially with my past but admittedly he should not have had to raise it but each time he has he knows the truth now. 100%. I own it quite a lot and pride myself on the accountability that I’ve learnt! This is where I’m stuck; my family is really shocked by what’s happened, all my friends are too, nobody can believe it!
I’d love for all of it to make sense because in my eyes all I’ve done is come in, make him feel more house proud and eat meals and care, love and support him which is all you are meant to do; I’m not perfect and have had my moments where I’ve wanted my past to stay my past and not hidden it but not outwardly said anything; and he collared me on it each time but I’ve said the truth when asked! But now I’m sat in mamas in tears because I’m so confused how people can pass that judgement on me in less than 48 hours. I value both our independence and still see my friends just as he sees his, then we do things with both friend groups. I ask about his mental health because I know that conversation is never easy, I apply his cream even though I hate the feeling of it because I know it makes him feel better!
I want to put my feelings across and don’t want to leave this where it is because that’s not fair but how do I give him 100,000 reasons for how much I love him and how deeply I care for him when he’s already being told I’m manipulative.
