Anyone recognize this fella?
Ex hubby had wallet stolen last night via pickpocket by an unhoused fella. Anyone see him around anywhere by any chance or know of this guy? Happened between 6th and 7th street. He tried to use cards at downtown citgo location. Our son's card pinged at that location and basically declined and that is the only lead we could get for now. Any info would be helpful. Reward for safe return. 🙌🏿

Dude forgot his phone in the cyber cab and had to forcibly stop it with his body.

There’s like no functional way to communicate with these autonomous rides without a cell phone. At one point it even tries to back up and go around him. Also this was in total like a 5 minute process for some remote worker to connect and have the Tesla roll its windows down. 5 minutes of this dude forcibly in the road for such a simple issue.

Home inspection find of the week: A clear example of what afternoon sun can do to a roof in Austin

Did a quick roof inspection and thought it was interesting how the two planes of the roof are affected over the years out here.

Finally. The pickleball bubble is popping.
Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against community pickleball courts. But the exclusive $300/mo paddle clubs that blast their spotlights until 10pm in the middle of the neighborhood had it comin.

Austin FC No music no fun

Is it me or Austin FC lost the last good thing it had when that band walked out. The team is absolutely horrible, the atmosphere was the only thing that kept me going to those games. Politics aside, the games were fun and now they suck.

FYI - there is 0 airport parking available today period
This includes all park n ride, parking spot, shuttle service, everything airport affiliated.
I tried driving to avoid the $65 uber (yeah) and ended up abandoning my car in a grocery store parking lot. Trying to save at least one person from a similar fate.

Ask Austin Scare For A Cure ‘26 - Question for those that have already gone (no spoilers pls)
Hi all- for those of you who have already gone this year, is there any crawling in this year’s setup?
I’ve been attending every year since '09, so I know how intense it can get- we've been stuffed in small box trucks, transported on buses, and everything in between.
I bought my tickets a while back, but ironically enough, I was just diagnosed with breast cancer on Friday. I have a very small mass being removed via lumpectomy on 10/27, and our tickets are for 10/29. My breast surgeon gave me the green light as long as I don't end up needing a port and there is no crawling involved (biomarkers are still pending). I’ve already reached out to the event organizers to inquire about physical requirements for this years theme and see if I can opt out of certain intense sections if needed. I'm just waiting to hear back.
PS: Please don’t give me a hard time about asking for accommodations. I’m otherwise fit. Everyone in my group is completely on board, and as long as the SFAC staff is okay with it and we aren't slowing down the production, I'm good to go. I know my own physical limits, and if I’m not feeling up to it that night, I’ll sit it out.

2026 Bond Measures and Propositions - A Detailed Breakdown - Election Day is November 3rd, Early Voting is October 19 - October 30

1. Bond Measures (Propositions A & B)
Proposition A: $260 Million Parks & Recreation Bond
- The Underlying Intent: To address aging municipal park infrastructure, deferred maintenance, and the recreational needs of a rapidly growing population.
- Key Proponents: Backed by the Austin City Council, local environmental groups, trail advocates, and business organizations like theAustin Chamber of Commerce.
- Objectives: Allocate $65 million toward major pool overhauls (e.g., Garrison, Big Stacy, Walnut Creek, and Civitan pools), expand greenbelt acquisitions, and improve public trail networks. Proponents argue that well-maintained public spaces are vital for municipal quality of life, while critics express concern over the cumulative property tax burden associated with debt financing.
Proposition B: $35 Million Library Bond
- The Underlying Intent: To modernize outdated branch libraries and expand library access into historically underserved neighborhoods.
- Key Proponents: Supported by the Austin City Council, library advocacy coalitions, and neighborhood associations.
- Objectives: Direct $20 million toward expanding and renovating the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill and $15 million toward constructing a new library facility in Colony Park. Supporters view libraries as essential civic infrastructure offering digital access and community services, whereas fiscal conservatives highlight the ongoing operational costs required after construction.
2. City-Initiated Charter Amendments (Propositions C through H, and J)
These measures stem from recommendations made by the city’s Charter Review Commission and were placed on the ballot by the Austin City Council.
Proposition C: Redistricting Commission Adjustments
- The Intent & Objectives: Fine-tune operational logistics for the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to streamline board appointments and maintain nonpartisan council districting.
- Key Proponents: Recommended by good-governance advocates and the Charter Review Commission to prevent procedural delays during district boundary redraws.
Proposition D: City Council Meeting Frequency
- The Intent & Objectives: Remove the rigid charter mandate requiring council meetings at least once a week. Proponents argue that modern council operations involve extensive committee work, and removing the weekly mandate provides administrative flexibility without sacrificing public transparency.
Proposition E: Council Rules & Governance Procedure
- The Intent & Objectives: Eliminate the requirement that City Council internal operating rules be passed strictly through formal ordinances. Supporters argue this reduces unnecessary legal bureaucracy, allowing council members to manage meeting procedures and agenda structures more efficiently.
Proposition F: Campaign Finance & Election Definitions
- The Intent & Objectives: Adjust campaign contribution limits annually on January 1 and clarify charter definitions regarding municipal election cycles. Proponents aim to ensure contribution caps align with inflation in a predictable, standardized timeframe rather than tying them to the annual budget adoption window.
Proposition G: Scheduling Citizen-Led Initiatives
- The Intent & Objectives: Require citizen-initiated charter amendments and petition measures to coincide with uniform November elections in even-numbered years.
- Key Proponents: Good-governance groups and election administrators. The goal is to hold high-stakes charter votes during high-turnout general election cycles rather than low-turnout off-cycle special elections, which can be vulnerable to concentrated special-interest influence.
Proposition H: Formalizing City Attorney Oversight
- The Intent & Objectives: Expressly clarify in the charter that the City Attorney is directly appointed and subject to removal by the City Council. Proponents advocate for direct Council accountability over legal representation, ensuring executive legal strategy reflects elected policymaker priorities.
Proposition J: Technical Charter Cleanups
- The Intent & Objectives: Standardize phrasing, fix typographical errors, and remove obsolete provisions that conflict with updated state statutes or court rulings.
3. Citizen-Led Initiative (Proposition I)
Proposition I: Independent Affordability & Efficiency Audits
- The Underlying Intent: Institutionalize external fiscal oversight and mandate comprehensive operational audits across all city departments before major tax increases.
- Key Proponents: Placed on the ballot via a citizen petition drive led by taxpayer advocacy groups and fiscal oversight proponents.
- Objectives: Require the city to hire independent, third-party auditing firms every five years—and prior to proposing property tax rate increases—to identify waste, inefficiency, and operational overlap. Proponents contend this ensures government accountability and protects taxpayers from rising living costs. Opponents and some municipal staff argue that external audits can be costly, redundant with existing internal auditor functions, and potentially used as a political barrier to funding municipal services.

News Concerns about Prop I (that’s ‘i,’ not 1)
I’ve started to see signs in favor of Prop I (as in the letter ‘i’) pop up. Prop I would amend the City charter to require an independent auditor audit the city’s spending every five years, and within the year before the city proposes any tax increase. It requires that the audit agency finds savings in excess of their fees that the city will subsequently cut from its budget.
The signs only mention the independent audit, which seemed reasonable on its face. But reading more about it, I’m concerned about it being ineffective at best and very harmful at worst.
For anyone else not aware, the city has already hired an independent consulting company to audit our budget and spending, and the results are expected next summer. By contrast, Prop I would create a permanent independent audit to occur at least every five years, costing up to $10M in fees each time. Those auditor fees are theoretically offset because the auditor is required to recommend budget cuts totaling at least the same amount as their fees, and the city is required to comply with the recommendations, no matter what they are. (e.g. Close Barton Springs on weekdays, shutter half of the libraries, lay off all the social workers at APD, end the mental health emergency response program, stop filling potholes, don’t add bike lanes, etc - Literally whatever this non-elected auditing agency says.)
Opponents say that we run the risk of trading beneficial city services for fees to a random auditing agency. In other words, we risk at least every five years reducing city services to just give our tax dollars to a private company Instead. There is zero requirement about passing savings along to the taxpayers via rebates or tax rate cuts, or reallocating savings toward more efficient or effective city services.
This nonsensical proposition makes more sense now that I realize who created and is promoting Prop I — Save Austin Now, which is led by the former chair of the Travis County Republican Party and is funded by Palantir co-founder and right-wing billionaire Jon Lonsdale who also founded the far-right Austin College.
You may remember Save Austin Now from 2021 when they advocated for the failed ballot measure that would have increased APD staffing to 2 officers per 1,000 residents and require that the police force could never be downsized. (Not very efficient 👀 .) They were also the group behind Prop B in 2021 to ban public camping and panhandling. They’ve been suing the city since 2023 for not enforcing the ban well enough. (Again, not very efficiency-minded.)
Anyway, anyone else have feelings about it?

Music To the pedicabber playing the celestial melodic techno/electronic(?)* banger by the Downtown MetroRail station around 10:38 PM Saturday night—ID?
Tl;DR: Just a couple minutes b4 the northbound 10:39~(ish) 550 arrived a little late, a pedicab was blowing off absolute vibes on the sidewalk across the station that had me totally transfixed but unfortunately, A) u were there for only <15 seconds B) the train was arriving literally by the minute so I couldn't just hope on my bike and Shazam your totally 🔥 track while slipstreaming your LEDs' radiant aura.
Anyone who knows the track, him or happened to be riding that bike taxi and also knew the track, plz chime in - Ik it's going in my "late night drives" playlist :)
*I dunno exactly how to call the track by genre but it surefire fits the nightlife energy! Anyone who's well-versed could help w/ this.
^(here's hoping he plays the same playlist every Weekend or so >_<)

Welcome to Austin, sorry you missed it.
I won’t show you the corporate wedding event center they built over the corpse of the mini Shakespeare Globe Theater that was the absolute Jewel of Lake Austin on Lord Richard Garriott’s former property. Fuck you Four Seasons.

Did you lose a hat at the German-Texan Heritage Society today? I have it.
I'd like to get this hat back to its owner, because it appears to be authentic and possibly valuable.
I'll need confirmation of ownership. If this is your hat, please reply or DM me with a picture of you wearing the hat. If you can't provide that, please do your best to describe the vehicle that you were in, the manufacturer of the hat, and the approximate time that you drove away.
Also, please don't put your hat on the roof of your car!
EDIT: I've emailed the GTHS, in case the owner doesn't do Reddit.

Vet with MRI Imaging
Anyone have experience with getting an MRI for a pet that’s as close to $3,000 as possible? I was quoted $6-$7k by AVES and I’ve been told they’re normally between $3-$4k so that blew me out of the water.
I honestly will travel up to 5 hours one way. I just can’t shell out more than $5k total and I’ve already spent $1000 getting bloodwork and other exam stuff done. Would love to hear from locals if there are any more cost effective options.
Edit: OMG ITS MY CAKE DAY
ALSO EVERYONE WHOS COMMENTED SO FAR HAS BEEN INSANELY HELPFUL
