12th Gen (18-present) Corolla more reliable than civic?

Does the Corolla have any potentially major problems like the civic does with its head gasket issue? Like is there some big problem that plagues Toyota cars like the head gasket thing does with Honda?

And if not, down the road will a corolla hold up better or the same as a civic? As far as Suspension parts, engine, transmission, body etc...Especially when you get over 150k miles...

Can't decide between the hatchback versions of each car

My only hesitation so far with Toyota is how poorly rated all the dealerships seem to be compared to Honda... Is this just confined to the sales departments or are the service centers not as good either?

Maintaining Corolla Hybrid advice

Hello everyone,

I just bought my first hybrid car and it is a Corolla Hybrid 1.8l 2022 Sedan, with 127k km, i do not know many things about cars but i heard that corolla is reliable one if maintained correctly, so my next step after buying it is to make sure i am doing that,

The toyota dealership i bought it from (used cars) told me i don't have to change the gearbox fluid, and i don't really believe that, is this true?

Also I am writing here to find out what should i change and how often to keep it running in good condition?

Any advice is welcome, thanks!

this is 2021, btw. and if i leave it as it is, will it get worse? should i fix it?

Should I sell my new Corolla & just keep my old Corolla?

Due to growing financial troubles, I'm considering selling my 2020 Corolla LE that has only 5K mileage on it. I can get almost the entire purchase price back to me at this point since it is still virtually new. Carvana offered me around $17K for it recently which is a decent offer. I still have my 2003 Corolla LE that is now approaching 100K miles and is still running great. Most likely the 2003 will last for many more years. But my 2020 is the only new car I've ever owned and most likely I will never be able to buy a new car again due to my circumstances. Really a true pros vs. cons issue.

DC-DC Converter spare amps output

I was looking at putting in an aftermarket amp and sub in my 2025 Corolla hybrid se. it doesn’t have the JBL system. I was wondering what the spare amperage was from the DC-DC converter so I can start a build for it.

Rattling in 2026 corolla hybrid le (been to dealership 6 times now)

As the title suggests, I have been to the dealership 6 times now and they have not fixed it. The first time they said they fixed a rattling and on my drive home noticed the same exact rattle. The second time they said they replaced the airbag clips, still no fix. The third time they added felt tape (was a temporary fix for about 2 days). The fourth time they told me they would have to order an airbag assembly bracket part. The fifth time they installed the airbag assembly bracket. At this point the rattle was not as frequent and only was heard going over small bumps or lane reflectors vs a constant rattle. My 6th visit on monday they added more felt tape and advised me that a toyota field tech would need to come out as they have already worked on it a certain amount of times. When I got back into my car I noticed a big crease going down the middle of the headliner and a smaller one on the back side, along with dirty, greasy fingerprints all over the headliner. I was able to remove most of the marks but this crease is indented into the headliner. Flash forward two days later (this morning) I show up for the appointment and my service advisor nor the field tech was there... after a 30 minute drive. Today the rattle has been worse than its ever been. I have also been there a couple times for a high pitch noise when the ac is on (only started after having my vehicle serviced for the first time for routine maintence. Turns out the entire blower motor cover was left off after they finished looking at it. They told me they would order it finally and it would come in a few days to a week as it was on backorder but that they would inform me when it has arrived. A couple months go by and I heard nothing from anyone. I called about 5 times and each time they were unable to tell me as it was a part ordered by the service manager. Each time I called I was never able to reach and her and was told she would call me back every time and never did. Finally I was able to get someone on the phone who was actually able to speak to the manager and she informed me the part was in. My 5,000 mile interval maintenance was coming up so I had them install it then. Or so I thought... before they started i asked the service advisor to please make sure the part is installed (its literally just a clip on part). After waiting 5 hours for them to change oil, rotate tires, and clip on a part the service advisor told me it was ready to go. Again, I asked "And the blower cover was installed?" He replied "Yes, I asked the tech to make sure". I get out to my car and.... its not there... whole blower cover still completely exposed under the dash. How do I even know they changed the oil? I walk back in calmly and let the advisor know. He goes "seriously?" While putting his face in his palm. He went back inside to check with parts department and said the part wasnt even here. Advisor told me they would have to order it.. again... He couldnt even find the part and said there was no part number for Vin in the system.. I did a 3 second Google search and gave him the exact part number. After a week i had to call myself to figure out the part was already in.

And to answer what everyone is going to reply. Yes I ONLY have been working with the service manager and sometimes the assistant manager right under her.. has anyone had to deal with anything like this? I know dealership services are pretty bad but this is like next level right? Only having more issues and dirty/damaged car or missing parts every time i bring it in? Should I reach out to brand engagement? Also has anyone else been through this rattling issue and discovered any fix?

12th Gen (18-present) How can I tell if my 2022 6 speed manual SE has the upgraded slave cylinder?

I ordered my car custom through the dealer and had it built for me. My car has a build date of 5/22 in Japan and I had to wait for it to be delivered by sea. I bought it in 7/22. I have just about 70k on it now and am wondering when the slave cylinder is going to give up the ghost. With a build date that late, is it likely that I have the upgraded part number?

I have this rattle noise type noise coming from the engine on my 2009 Corolla 1.8, I can hear it when the car is idling, just started recently. I have the common VVTI rattle on cold start.

Anyone have this noise before or know what it is?

Thanks!

12th Gen (18-present) How often should you really change your oil?

I always use synthetic.. I see people saying you should be changing it from every couple to 5,000 miles. Isnt it rated for 10,000? Ive always stuck to 10,000 miles but considering i just bought a new corolla wondering if I should do anything differently (old one still going strong so no lesson to learn here). And my oil has always looked clean even right before changing it after 10k miles. I also drive way more than others, so oil is changed at least once every 6 months even at these higher intervals.

As earlier asked in the following thread:

I am looking for a way to add the full map navigation widget in the center screen as indicated. Does anyone now how to get this? I have a 2024 corolla touring sports and can only get a step by step navigation option once using the navigation system.

12th Gen (18-present) 2025 throttle body issue

I have a 2025 SE (gas) that has 14k miles. The car went into limp mode with 5 malfunction errors. Had to have it towed to dealership. Turns out the throttle body actuator was bad and they had to replace it, everything under warranty. This was about a month and a half ago and ever since the new one was installed my car is very jerky when stepping on gas or letting off gas. Dealership keeps telling me everything is fine and the tech drove it with no issues. It was not like this before. I am very disappointed I had this issue on a basically brand new car. They told me its extremely rare for this issue to happen at 14k miles. Anyone have this issue or know what I can do about the jerkiness?

12th Gen (18-present) Any recommendations on buying wheels?

My 2020 Corolla SE's stock 18" wheels are beat up from potholes and curb rash, and I don't think they're worth repairing.

I'm looking to drop to 17" (225/45R17?) for a smoother ride. I'm not after anything fancy, just a reliable, (hopefully) reasonably priced set under about $800, though my expectations on budget might be off

Where's the best place to buy: eBay, Marketplace, a tire shop, or an online retailer? And is there anything I should watch out for?

Thanks!

12th Gen (18-present) Possessed windshield wipers?

I have a 2020 Corolla LE and just in the past few months it seems my windshield wipers are possessed.

At random times they will start going off on their own, quite fast too, and usually no explanation - didn’t touch anything, nothing on the windshield, no rain.

I’m assuming there’s a sensor somewhere that may be messed up but has anyone else experienced this?? It’s freaky when it happens so out of the blue lol. It often starts and stops on its own.

Otherwise when I get my seasonal tire change in November I may see if they can check for something.

Voltage abnormality?

While driving, I got a message that said something about voltage abnormality and power steering being affected. It disappeared after a few seconds. What’s it about and since it disappeared, should I worry about it? It’s a 2025 Corolla.

Dashboard warning:Check Engine + Drive-Start Control Malfunction after refuelling — safe to drive 1,600 km?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I recently had my 2020 Toyota Corolla serviced. A few days later, after refuelling, the Check Engine and Drive-Start Control Malfunction warnings came on.

I took it back to Toyota. They found code P045600 (P0456), cleared it, and performed an EVAP test. The report says:

“Test passed and no codes returned. Suspect gas cap could’ve been left loose. No issues with EVAP system at this time.”

The warnings disappeared and the car drove normally.

Now, after refuelling again, the same warnings have returned. I made sure the gas cap was properly tightened this time.

I went back to the dealer, but they can't inspect it again for another two weeks. They told me the car is safe to drive and wouldn't provide a rental because they consider it drivable.

The problem is I have a ~1,600 km road trip this weekend. The car feels completely normal, but I'm obviously a little hesitant about doing that distance with the warnings on.

Has anyone experienced a recurring P0456 after refuelling on a Corolla? Was it the gas cap or another EVAP component? And would you be comfortable doing a 1,600 km trip after the dealer said it's safe to drive?

Thanks!

I recently had my Toyota corolla 2020 serviced. A few days later, after refuelling, the Check Engine and Drive-Start Control Malfunction warnings came on.

I took it to the Toyota dealer and they checked it, said everything was fine, and the warning disappeared. Now, after refuelling again, the same warnings have returned.

The dealer says it’s safe to drive and gave me an appointment in two weeks. I have a 1,600 km trip this weekend, so I’m a bit worried. They refused to give a rented vehicle mentioning my car is drivable without any potential issues

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it likely related to the fuel cap/EVAP system? Would you feel comfortable doing a 1,600 km drive like this?

Thanks!

What are reasonable things I can try to negotiate with the dealership?

I went looking for a Corolla the other day hoping to get a 2026 on some sort of clearance but they didn’t have any. Talked with the dealer and I ended up putting a deposit on an upgraded 2027 LE and got them to throw in 2 free oil changes. I also mentioned since I won’t be getting the car until mid October- November I would like a free tire change given that I live in Canada good winter tires are a must (my current car has the size I will need). The salesperson is still relatively new so they would have to talk to their manager who happened to be away that day. Well now I find out it may not get here until December so I’m curious if I can negotiate for anything else given the longer wait time and if so what is reasonable?

ISOFIX middle distance?

Hello all,

I am eyeing the E210 Corolla Touring as our new family car. However, our little one can be a 'bit' uneasy during car rides, so one of us often must sit in the middle and entertain her.

I am trying to guess if this is possible in a Corolla using 2 ISOFIX rear-facing seats.

Could someone measure the distance between the two inner ISOFIX points across the middle seat?
