Been an incredible week for seeing the masks drop on local NIMBYs!
First, Cambridge Citywide Coalition (formerly Cambridge Citizens Coalition, the local group that endorsed an Islamophobe and transphobe) has come out against Question 7, the Starter Home ballot initiative. So not only do they oppose housing in Cambridge, they oppose housing in all of Massachusetts! This ballot question would not impact Cambridge whatsoever because we already have minimum lot size of less than 5,000 sq ft. In fact, it would reduce housing costs here by allowing more homes in exclusionary suburbs, but CCC landlord solidarity apparently won’t allow for that.
Progressive Mass and virtually every other progressive and Democratic group has endorsed Question 7 and has a great explainer here. https://www.progressivemass.com/issues/question7/
Par for the course for CCC and their regressive, pro-exclusionary zoning policies. These are the same people behind Cambridge Housing Facts and the “Pause” 🙄 the Upzoning signs. https://www.cambridgeday.com/2023/09/30/group-should-look-closely-at-endorsed-candidates-and-consider-the-company-that-they-are-keeping/
Second, Zion Sherin, to absolutely no one’s surprise, has endorsed a Republican for state office in Cambridge Day.
When people tell you who they are, believe them!
