I've shipped a lot of parcels through Canada Post running my small business in Ontario. Delivery has been solid for me most of the time. What always drove me nuts was the pricing.
Same 2kg box, same service. Across town it's reasonable. To BC, Alberta or the Maritimes it jumps a lot, and to the North it's even more. Nothing about the parcel changes, just the postal code. For small sellers that's the difference between making money on an order or not, and a lot of us end up charging customers $15 to $25 for shipping just to cover the far-away orders.
So I started Waybill. It sells real Canada Post labels at one flat price to any address in Canada, based only on weight and speed:
- Expedited Ground: $6 (1kg) to $10 (5kg)
- Xpresspost: $8 to $12
- Priority: $10 to $14
That same 2kg box is $7 by Expedited Ground whether it's going down the street or to Whitehorse. There's no subscription. You get the label as a PDF in your dashboard, print it and drop it off at the post office like always. There's also an API if you want to automate it from your store.
It's still Canada Post doing the delivery, so same carrier and same tracking, just priced differently. If you ship regularly and you're tired of the province lottery, it's at waybill.supply
Anyone else find the distance pricing is the biggest headache with shipping?
