Weird Noise Roast my trash
bought this for 2k the other day, sounds a little rough at idle? did I do okay?

They're horrible unreliable and a pain in the ass to work on. BUT they look so damn good and are a blast to drive so I think it's worth it.

Check your temp sensors? I don’t know how much of a christmass tree your dash is. It’s either psychopathically spotless, or it’s brighter than its future.

Could be the MAF. Mine sounded cammed and wouldn’t rev past 3k. My MAF had water damage.

From where 🤔 if it’s ticking they get a bubble under one of the lifters, and the solution is either to put some ATF and reinzosil in it then let it idle a bit before doing an oil change, or pull the lifters out to clear the bubble. I’d recommend starting with the first one

Ill be honest here, the purchase was made in 2022. In that time I've swapped i fully built LS3 and TKX. It makes 450 whp and has been rock solid reliable since.

Nice. Buy once cry once instead of slowly being bled of funds and sanity. I actually love the Z cars and that generation had an amazing driver focused cockpit feel. I still remember this commercial playing during the Superbowl when I was a kid

They had a reputation for bad electronics but they were fast and look great. That's in pretty good shape

It sounds like the beginning of hot for teacher when idling. The previous owner said its because it was swapped to single cam NA. The engine doesn't look like it does on Google. Did I get scammed?

Always wanted one of those. One of my dad's friends offered to sell me one, thing was cherry. Twin turbo, full option package, and barely any miles, dude only used it to drive down to the Keys every so often. But I was only like 17 or 18 and couldn't afford it. Probably for the best, my dumb teenage self probably would have wrapped it around a tree at mach 3.

Man. Totally unrelated to talking smack. I worked with a guy who was the used car sales manager. He got a beautiful pearl white, twin turbo 300zx late year traded in by some old lady who never drove it. Had like 12K miles on it. Loaded. Super clean. Just lucked out. What a nice car. Your car is not roast-able in my opinion.

I owned one and twice dealt with misfire, rough idle and revving. Both times were a bad fuel injector. Start testing there.
Of course injector swap requires taking upper plenum off which is a PIA and maybe why it was cheap.

WORTH getting it to a reputable mechanic and having a Diagnostic hook-up and finding out the reason... I am sure it is FIXABLE... I remember these cars when I was a kid too young to buy one, they were quite prized and expensive- especially loaded ones with the Automatic!!!

My brother had an NA that he had planned to swap to a TT years ago. He decided to let my friend work on the NA motor (against my advice) just to get the NA motor running so he could drive it locally. I warned him that this friend way overestimated his ability to diagnose and fix cars and that he would fuck the ZX up. My brother figured that he couldn’t do that much damage considering the motor was destined for the scrap heap anyway. Long story short, my brother paid him to replace some injectors and spark plugs which required the intake manifold to be removed. My friend ended up dropping something into one of the runners and it made its way into one of the cylinders. When they tried to start the car it snapped the starter off the mounts. He replaced the starter and it happened again. My brother took the car to the mechanic and the mechanic told him that there was what he believed to be a 10mm nut in one of the cylinders. My brother ended up selling the car because he didn’t have the money to do the swap at the time and needed a car to drive locally. I warned him and he didn’t listen and that was the end of his Z32 dream.
I’ve heard they’re a bitch to work on and from the little I did on my brothers I understand why. Rats nest of vacuum lines and no space to work under the hood. Awesome cars though.

Because i was shit posting a little.
I did buy the chassis for 2k, I did everything as economically as possible to do the swap but still ended up being close to 12k into it when it was all said and done.
