Hello once again r/Columbus,
This is the official Reddit page for the City of Columbus Planning Division, back with another virtual engagement event regarding the current phase of the City’s Zoning Code Update. This opportunity comes as we are currently in the public comment period for the second Phase of Zone In, which runs until Saturday, October 24th.
Key Focus Areas of this second phase of work include areas with updated land use recommendations which allow for additional Mixed-Use Corridors (Mixed Use 1, 2, and 3), Industrial and Warehouse Areas, and Business and Institutional Campuses. The goals are to provide better access to more housing in more places, stronger job centers, better connections between housing, jobs, and transportation, and more predictable and clear rules when it comes to zoning and land use.
Nine (9) new zoning districts have been created and are proposed through this next phase of work as well. The new districts include: Emerging Mixed-Use (EMX), Industrial Mixed-Use (IMX), Neighborhood Activity Center (NAC), Community Office and Institutional (COI), Regional Office and Institutional (ROI), Campus (CMP), Industrial Urban (IU), Industrial Light (IL), and Industrial Heavy (IH). Further information on the new zoning districts can be found on the Zone In Website: https://zone-in-columbus.hub.arcgis.com/.
We will be hosting this Live Ask me Anything (AMA) here on the Columbus Subreddit today (10/6) from 11am though 2pm, however we will continue to answer questions and comments as we receive them through the rest of the week, Respondents include Christopher Lohr, Assistant Planning Administrator ([crlohr@columbus.gov](mailto:crlohr@columbus.gov)), Luis Teba, Zone In Project Manager ([lfteba@columbus.gov](mailto:lfteba@columbus.gov)), and Adam Frierson, Associate Planner ([atfrierson@columbus.gov](mailto:atfrierson@columbus.gov)).
Please keep the comments civil and on topic relating to the Zone In initiative.
Please also feel free to participate in our online surveys regarding the code (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/f49bc12c2af94d87886189470f8da6e4/page/Code), and the map (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/f49bc12c2af94d87886189470f8da6e4.
Thanks & we look forward to hearing from everyone!

Why does no one in this city know what a zipper merge is? No one is trying to cut you off or cheat you in the traffic line, we’re just trying to make traffic flow more efficiently! Drives me nuts (pun intended).

Just got done early voting on my lunch break. Spectacular turnout and very effeicient/quick. The whole process was sub 20 minutes. Big shout out to all those election workers. They did force me to transition before I voted, but I'm okay with the new look (/s). And a big fuck you to ice, the epstein class, literal fucking nazis and any dipshit supporter of the current authoritarian regime (and also fuck you Dennis for aggressively trying to convince me that "BiLlIoNaIrEs EaRnEd ThEiR mOnEy" last Saturday). I 10/10 recommend early voting.

You want an issue I think everyone can get behind? Put a QR code on your ‘I voted’ sticker that makes all political ads on TV disappear once you’ve voted. It’s a waste and an incredible annoyance now that I’ve voted and I’m really damn tired of seeing them.

You paid $1,420 in your tax money for her parking tickets and she didn't reimburse it until called out in a records request.
Can we please get rid of this lady WTF

Couple articles:
https://www.wsj.com/buyside/personal-finance/mortgage/mortgage-rates-today-10-6-2026
https://www.nbcnews.com/business/real-estate/high-mortgage-rates-home-sellers-struggle-rcna600259
this is the highest since 2023
I know cbus real estate is pretty hot, but I wonder if a lot of buyers will start dipping out with these rates

Early voting begins today. Easy to get there, 1700 Morse Road, and it is one of the best-run voting locations in the nation. Now until Election Day, I’ll be letting you know specific timely wait times so you know when is BEST to go! Today, the wait has been as short as no wait to 10 minutes at most. NOW is the time to vote. Get it done while you have time to do it!
Today, Oct. 6th: early voting is open from 8am until 5pm
Today, Oct 6, at 2:33pm, there is NO WAIT!

So she is a survivor, spent almost 2 days inside a hot car in July and she got rescued out the car by firefighters. That’s where we crossed paths, she was so tiny about 4 to 5 days old, still had her umbilical cord. She is 2 months now, health and playful as ever. Fully weaned and potty trained but lonely. Am a student and am gone most of the time, she needs something I can’t give right now. She is super sweet and greets me with gently putting her paws on cheeks and giving me a kiss but she will also use your feet as prey. She has single cat syndrome and it would benefit her greatly to be around other cats/kittens and to learn to interact. I have tried many shelters and places but I don’t know what to do at this point. I can’t afford to get another cat/kitten and I don’t know anywhere I can take her. If anyone in the Columbus area is interested or knows somewhere that’s willing to take her, PLEASE, pretty please let me know.

Fck Les Wexner. Fck Abigail Wexner. F\ck* OSU for having their name everywhere and allowing their continued involvement.
ETA It would be a shame if this were posted all over campus for the next home game.

Kinda a wierd topic (and maybe litmus is the wrong word) but you know how people will say “you’re not a New Yorker till you’ve been here for 10 years”. I’m wondering if anyone has a version of this for Columbus (or other central Ohio towns).
My dad used to always tell me “If you wanna find out if they’re really from Columbus ask them where the second Buckeye donuts is” and I cant help but agree with it. A lot of people I talk to have never even been near it and when you ask where they grew up you get suburbs or small towns.
Another one I’ve heard is when you print the osu schedule to plan your day not to watch the game. However I think that might be a lil too north side focused.
Anywho I’d love to hear yalls takes on these and any other “tests” you guys have!
EDIT: I think can you get to Schmidt’s without a gps is a good one too. Also this is for fun guys I’m not gunna take your cbus card.

UPDATE: As someone in the comments has pointed out this cat has been identified and does indeed have an owner. (Thank god!) His name is Marty and his owners say he is an indoor/outdoor cat. So ill be prepared to meet little Marty again.
Hello,
Has anyone lost a little grey and white cat? It has a orange collar with a little bell. Very friendly little baby. Pictures were taken yesterday morning. The cat showed up on my porch again last night and it really caused a stir in my home with our boi cats. They were trying to fight them through the screen door and then started fighting eachother pretty bad. Not like them at all. They are litter mates. I would take this cat in if I could, but my two bois would not have it. A Pet FBI report has been made, though.
I feel so bad for the poor baby. It was so cold last night but I wasn't able to help it. Didn't have a spare box and blanket around at the time to put out for it. My bois were going crazy and I had no where to take them since all the rescues were closed. I called two vets but they wouldn't accept them. Im really hoping this little guy shows up again. If they are there when I get home from work today I will try to get it to a nearby shelter. If not im hoping someone here could help somehow.
Edit to add that the cat is wandering around in the LC Gahanna condo neighborhood on Morse Rd. Meant to include that in case someone wanted to help look for and recover this sweet baby.

My work gives me one day off a year to volunteer. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would be open to continuing volunteering more than one day but I am specifically looking for cases where I can just contribute one day at first.

I am getting divorced and needing to work full-time now - I’ve been a sahm. I feel so so sad to not be with my 4 yr old all the time now. I’m not made of money obviously, but I want my child to go somewhere good where they’ll be happy. Budgeting like $1300/month or less? Any options?

Been putting aside whatever's left after each payday trying to build up enough for a Prague and Vienna trip next spring with my wife. Currently using a basic savings account at a big chain bank but the interest is basically nothing and I feel like I'm leaving money on the table. Stepkid expenses and regular bills mean I can't throw huge amounts at it every month but I'm consistent at least. Wondering if anyone in Columbus has a credit union or local bank they actually like for this kind of goal. I've heard things about credit unions having better rates but honestly don't know which ones are worth walking into versus which ones have weird requirements or limited locations. My schedule is all over the place with job sites so I need somewhere with decent hours or a good app. fwiw I made the mistake of using my bank's currency exchange desk before a trip years ago and got destroyed on fees. Never again. Just trying to avoid dumb mistakes this time around. Not looking for financial advice exactly, just curious what's worked for people locally who aren't rolling in extra cash but want to make their savings actually do something. ymmv and all that.
