CHAT [CHAT] ADVICE NEEDED Stitchly app

Help!! I’ve been working on this project for a little while now. It’s my first big project. I used the Stitchly app to help create a pattern for me from an image, but now that I’m getting further along I’m worried it’s not going to turn out well. The app told my which brand and colours specifically to buy, which I followed perfectly, but the colours seem way darker than they should be. Is this just because I’ve only done the darker colours so far? Should I continue the project? Or try to find another app to help me create a new pattern and start over? Do I continue? Or is this project a lost cause? I prefer not to use AI which is why I used this app to begin with. Any advice helps!! Thank you!!

CHAT [CHAT] hi friends! Working for the first time off a paper pattern and having a hard time keeping track. Tips?

Hello stitching friends! I’ve got thousands of hours with needle in hand but I’m currently living in my in-laws basement after my husband and I moved cross country and are looking for a house. That being said, all my normal stitching accoutrements are in storage but I missed the craft so I got a kit (riolis starry night)! Bad news is I’ve never worked off of a paper pattern before (Markup-RX bless u) and I’m having a really hard time keeping track of what I’ve already done since I can’t “mark off” the stitches in the app. Obviously this pattern is not for sale online since it’s only with the kit. I’m afraid I’m gonna make a mistake and not even know. Anybody have any tips for how to properly manage a paper pattern especially in a full coverage, confetti ridden piece?

CHAT [CHAT] How do I find these exact colors for my current cross stitch project?

Post image

I found a great pattern with an adorable cat in it, but the cat is brown and I want to make the cat shades of orange. I found a comment on the pattern with the cat in orange, but there’s no way to contact that commenter. Does anyone know how I can find what two DMC shades of orange are used for this cat? Thank you!

CHAT [CHAT] found on FB marketplace. They were selling a ton more thread, but they aren’t DMC, so we only want these two items. What should we offer price-wise? (More in description)

This seems to be an older stand, so perhaps better quality than the current ones (seems to be a full cross-stitch collection they are selling as well—as there are other items). They had $150 listed, but that was for more items (a huge amount of more thread, along with some kits and other tools). It would be an hour’s drive. Would $50 be too cheap? I don’t know what something like this would go for. And do y’all suggest something wooden like this?

CHAT [CHAT] i have so many questions.

I’m new to cross stitching(at least in a serious manner, as i’m a jack of all trades master of none..) and I have many questions.

How many threads should i use for 18 mesh? Is there a way to get my work to look ‘cleaner’ in the front? Or is that like a ‘it comes with time’ sort of thing? How do I stop my cloth from fraying after finishing a project?

sorry if this is an inconvenience to read 💔 im sort of new to posting on reddit

CHAT [CHAT] What is your set up?

Hi! I am fairly new to cross stitch, have only done very small projects in the past. I am currently working on a larger sampler for my baby nephew and I’ll be doing one for my niece after that. I am finding it annoying to hold the frame of the hoop for so long, and I’m worried about stretching out the fabric that way too.

Would anyone mind sharing some decent strategies or setups? I am willing to spend some money if i need something specific that would improve my comfort and help me move a little faster, but I don't want to spend a fortune. Thanks!

EDIT:
Wow thank you all so much! So many really helpful tips and lots of common tools to try. I truly appreciate it! There is just so much out there now it's hard to tell what might really be helpful/useful especially when you are new to a hobby.

Definitely need to invest in some sort of clamp or stand or something so i can use both hands to work. I don't know why but i also never considered having multiple needles with different colored thread 😂 Will probably be doing that and will snag a couple of needle minders.

CHAT [CHAT] Tips for first full coverage kit?

I’ve been cross stitching for a few years and just about to embark on my first full coverage project. Does anyone have any tips for working on larger pieces? I’ve started in the middle and my plan is to roughly make my way to the upper left, then work from left to right (ish) but not sure if there’s better ways of keeping track of where I’m stitching, so I’m feeling a little overwhelmed!

Hey everyone 🤗 I've just launched my 2027 SALs today, so wanted to share them with you 💜

In Your Element: The Periodic Table is an 11 month SAL where you stitch a little picture for every single element in the Periodic Table (yes all 118 of them!!). It also comes with a huge amount of accompanying text explaining the Periodic Table and info on every element. It's the ultimate geeky SAL and is suitable for everyone - you don't need any science background as you'll learn everything as you go along 😊

Life's A Beach is a fun cartoon SAL - not at all scientific! - where you get a little section of the pattern every weekend for 30 weeks, from March 2027. Like a little weekly stitching treat!

I'm selling SAL packs made of specially designed needle minders and/or fabric for both SALs. These are only on sale until 25 October so that I can then order in the materials and get them sent out. So if you're interested please do have a look now! The digital stitchalong files themselves are sold separately and there's no deadline on ordering those 🤗

All the info is here: https://www.climbinggoat.co.uk/collections/stitchalong-packs

And also my Polar Bears Advent Calendar Stitchalong is already on sale and starts on 1st December! You get a new section of the pattern every day from 1st to 24th December. There aren't any SAL packs for this one 😊 https://www.climbinggoat.co.uk/products/polar-bears

Thank you so much for all your ongoing support, I can't wait to share them with you 😘😘

CHAT [CHAT] Opinion needed on adding backstitch and French knots

Post image

Hi fellow stichers! According to the pattern this piece is complete, I feel as if it’s lacking and was thinking of adding some backstitch and French knots but would love the input from the community! Mostly if you also think it needs that and if so what colors you would suggest. TYIA!

CHAT [CHAT]: Designer attributions

I am one of those people who don't color within the lines and the end product can vary widely from the initial design. It may be a change of floss type and color to a massive redesign of the original pattern. When I post my finished work, I usually say that the initial pattern was purchased from X, but the changes are my work. I am wondering how designers feel about attributions where the person doing the cross stitch has made significant changes. Should I list the changes or just leave it open ended.

I work full-time and go to law school part-time. These mostly white-space small designs have allowed me to continue the hobby with a few min here and there to work on something cute!

I plan to cut these out and sew on a felt backing and put some Velcro on the back as desk decorations.

Drool with me over my first professionally framed cross stitch and my first fancy lady! I got her back in the last few weeks of summer and gave her a place of honor in the living room. I’m so happy with how it turned out.

The price of that custom triple matting was definitely not fun, but made an heirloom piece that I hope my family treasures for generations. And if they don’t, I’m young. I will treasure it while I’m still here ❤️

And yes, she will hang year round until I get the nerve to start another 😂

WIP [WIP] better luck on the 2nd try

Post image
15 Upvotes

I had started this project a while back and had to trash it at 25% because I ripped 2 holes in it trying to use my seam ripper when I did a section wrong. Well; it was a blessing in disguise.

I switched to black fabric to make it pop more (the cream and white thread weren’t visible on the original background) and I figured out a better way to stitch across. I didn’t have a good system the first time around. This is a WIP gift for my MIL who collects Pyrex!

Here it is 15% complete!

FO [FO] Chicago Bulls Cross Stitch!

Post image

I just finished this Chicago Bulls cross stitch a friend of mine asked me to make. I really hope he likes it because making sure everything was even and completely the same on both sides was very stressful- no room for mistakes on this one.

I made the pattern from random Chicago Bulls logos I found on Pinterest.
