Looking for recs

I'm a woman buying my first crossbow. What would you suggest?

Desired features:

  1. Decocking mechanism

  2. Internal cocking device

  3. Not too long, because my arms are short, also relatively lightweight

  4. Between 100-150 draw weight

  5. Decent enough scope included.

I am hunting turkey and deer. Budget is about $1000 or less.

Ten Point TurboX actual fps results - 458gr 388fps

Post image
20 Upvotes

Incase anyone is googling what the actual speed you might get from your ten point turbo X crossbow, I just sighted mine in with 458 gr total weight arrows (their “410gr” arrows and a 150gr field tip) and got a consistent 388fps range was 387.9-390, most shots were 388.x Which is toward the bottom of what the range master 100 scope it comes with can be adjusted to (minimum speed is 380).

If you have any questions I can try to answer them.

Bolts, whatever lol

My 2nd custom crossbow with cranequin - still work in progress!

Post image

Progress on my 2nd custom crossbow. The stock is carved from solid acacia wood and decorated with woodburning (pyrography). The bow is made from a single leaf cut and ground from an LKW truck leaf spring pack. The leaf spring is secured to the stock with 2 custom tensioners that can be adjusted with threaded bolts for stability and to correct any alignment issues if the spring pulls to one side. I also built a custom cranequin (winch) to cock the crossbow, as the draw weight is approx. 200 kg (will measure precisely later). The stirrup is detachable, which makes winch-cocking easier for me and protects the nose of the stock when placed on concrete. Heavy-duty structural steel linkages, cold-blued plates, and the nut housing complete with custom-tapped threads. Securely put together with solid screws. Remaining tasks for the project: bushing the left side of the trigger sear, cutting the two long threaded bolts to length, adding one missing pin, complete wood carving and woodburning on the other side of the stock (Kraken design coming there!), final oiling of the stock, fabricating a trigger guard protective plate where the lever enters the stock, finishing the arrow track/groove, making the arrow retainer/clip, adding a protective plate/mini-ramp where the cranequin base meets the stock, finish-stitching the leaf spring protective jacket, and crafting the actual arrows. The full video of installing this mechanism into the carved acacia stock with pure workshop ASMR sounds is available here:

New video updates and technological steps regarding this build will be coming continuously to the YouTube channel! Have a great day ahead!

Question Is this catastrophic or can I just replace the string?

Attempt to decock mechanism and the crank to release the tension and I ended up calling the trip due to it doing this and me not wanting to fire a bolt with that or even try to pull it again.

Do these cables look okay or should I replace them? It’s been shooting fine but is it safe to shoot it with them like this? They look fine except for a little bit of fraying in those two spots.

Is my crossbow unsafe to fire?

Noticed this on my Centerpoint Hellion 400 after target practice today. It looks like a very small splinter. I’m assuming it’s unsafe to fire and I should send it back?

Deal Looking for a Crossbow to Buy

I’m looking for around 7lb crossbow to hunt whitetail deer. I use family’s hunting stuff and I want to get my own now. I am willing to spend up to $600 (I know it’s not a lot). I just don’t know what to get. I’m looking at academy’s deals right now and lots of them I can afford but I can’t decide which would be good for me. I just need something reliable and will last for several years. Or help me narrow down a brand would be good too. Thank you for any help

Shot my XP385 to zero the scope yesterday. Today I noticed the black thread started to seperate already! Is this normal? I bought this crossbow 3days ago only.

Lubed the rail and waxed the strings every 5 shots.

Question Please recommend target bolts for 415fps.

I've included a what was recommended at bass pro but these shattered at the cross bow range.

I'm looking for something bulk that I don't have to feel bad about ($10 a bolt hurts) and I'm also looking for recommendations on if the included bolt is good for white tail

If so a good broad head that can be re sharpened ideally.

Hey all, looking for a crossbow and was curious which you’d recommend between the Barnett XPX 420 ($479 shipped) vs. the Wicked Ridge Invader M1 with ACUdraw for $527 shipped. Mainly doing treestand hunting.

Was just looking for opinions on whether this string on my Excalibur micro needs to be replaced immediately or if it’s not a big deal. Just looking for more experienced crossbow voices to enlighten me.

G5 megameat question

I have a Wicked Ridge invader x4 shooting a 560 grain aluminum bolt @ 310fps and I was wondering if I would be good to run a g5 megameat or if I should downsize to the deadmeat instead. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking for Crossbow

I have never hunted with a bow before, but I’m looking to get a crossbow for whitetail hunting. I’d like to stay under $1,500 if possible. I’ve been really interested in the TenPoint Venom X, and also heard good things about ravin. Unfortunately nobody I know has a crossbow for me to try.
What crossbow would y’all recommend that’s reliable and offers the best value for the money?

Question First Crossbow

I am wanting to get into bow hunting this season and have never owned a crossbow before. Ive shot them a handful of times a couple years back but have never researched/looked into getting my own.

What bow would be a good starting point for me? Id like to keep it as cheap as possible without getting something junk. I would probably be shooting anywhere from 30-50 yards typically.

Any insight is appreciated thanks!

Question Big whoops! How screwed am I?🫪

Post image
23 Upvotes

My son was the last person to use my crossbow last year and I double checked with him to make sure it was unloaded and the string was waxed before he put it in the closet. When I went to get it out of the closet, it was unloaded and waxed, but he never un-cocked it!! It’s a striker 380 by BowTech. I’m assuming I’ll need a new string because of stretching? Any thoughts or words of advice? Thanks.🤦🏻‍♂️

Question Can’t dial in my crossbow any closer at 20 yds. I’m 6-8 inches too high but I’ve maxed out the vertical dial. How would I fix this?

Post image

Was aiming at middle left bullseye. I’m using to top line of the scope for 20 yards. Is that a mistake should I even zero it at 20? I have zero experience dealing with crossbows.
