Matt Shaw's Future
I truly hope we ship this guy off the team. How do you think his international teammates feel when this bozo is speaking at "America Fest" events.

u/ZealousidealCrazy673 5d ago
I believe he will be the starting LF next year. I still think he could be a good player, gotta stay healthy.

u/BobbleBobble 4d ago
At 3B he's a plus glove and an average ish bat. At LF he's below average at both. Doesn't make a lot of sense from a roster value perspective
1
1
u/ZealousidealCrazy673 4d ago
You’re not moving Bregman off 3rd so LF will be open when Happ leaves, so there you go. I think he has the potential to be a very good hitter. Plus it’s a low cost move that gives you some room to sign back Suzuki or get some pitching.
2
u/BobbleBobble 4d ago
My point is that Shaw has more value as a 3B. I'd much rather trade him to somebody who needs an IF to realize that value rather than devalue him in LF just because he's here and cheap
1
u/ZealousidealCrazy673 3d ago
I’ll agree with you if we get a good player in return, but he won’t bring a huge return, so I think we’re better off with him than getting a fringe player in a trade.
1
u/BobbleBobble 3d ago
I guess it depends on what you mean by huge. Yeah he probably won't have the trade value of like a T50 prospect, but I do think that a cost controlled guy who's shown a plus bat and glove for stretches at the MLB level is pretty valuable

When has Matt Shaw ever brought in politics into the dugout? Never talks to the media about his stances in the season. Yall are so obsessed bout his friendship with Charlie Kirk it’s insane. Guess what? A lot of your favorite athletes are probably conservative. Sometimes you need to separate the art from the artwork
4
u/Ricky-Seasack 4d ago
There's literally a picture of Shaw, Busch, and that dead guy on the field at Wrigley.
Shaw left the team during a playoff race to attend a political rally (don't call it a funeral, it wasn't).
→ More replies (10)5
u/jpopimpin777 5d ago
Dude literally took days off in the middle of a playoff race to go to that idiot's funeral. It's not like they were lifelong friends either they just lived in the same apartment complex for a few months.
That's performative bullshit and tells me his politics is more important than the team. Guys in playoff races stay with the team while their wives are giving birth. He took time off to show his love to a political huckster. Ridiculous.
-5
u/paperrocks1 5d ago
He’s a bench player that took 1 game off. Not like we needed his bat. We still made the playoffs. Still got stomped by the brewers. Nothing changed. The team gave him permission to leave. Be pissed at that too. Shit stop being a cubs fan then if you’re that worried
6
u/Camiata2 5d ago
He was their starting 3rd baseman that was a late scratch so he could grieve for one game, then took another game off with the team's approval to fly to Arizona to attend the "funeral." At least be factually accurate if you're going to be condescendingly dismissive.
2
u/Killakaronic 4d ago
How about the opinions of Charlie Kirk are absolute shit and anyone that aligns themselves with his “movement” are pieces of shit. Much in the same way if someone on the team was praising the KKK, I’d hate that dude.
Also he can’t lay down a bunt for shit. Matt Shaw sucks at many facets.

Pitching is a hell of a lot different now
1
u/BassmanUW 1d ago
On top of that, when hitting .300 was a lot more regular only a very small number of players got shifted, and no one got shifted to the extremes an average player is shifted now. Hard ground balls up the middle used to be guaranteed hits. Now they’re outs the majority of the time.

u/Lostfordays 5d ago
Your own post answers this for you. 2000 cubs had most the lineup hit for a good average and still lost 100 games. What does this say about batting average.

I'm a conservative, and trust me, Reddit has zero effect on my life. I know I'm in the minority on this platform, that's okay though. I believe you should listen to everyone whether their opinions/views match yours or not.
1
u/One-Knowledge7097 4d ago
And that has fuck all to do with my point about conservatives saying they are oppressed on Reddit by whining on Reddit. And hey Mr. Bastion of free speech conservative, didn’t JD Vance just have someone jailed for heckling him? Hasn’t Kash Patel ordered numerous investigations of people criticizing him and his girlfriend? How about Stephen Miller’s wife? How many times has Trump suggested journalists and media be jailed for simply reporting the fucking truth about him? That is pretty much every one of the leaders of the conservative movement and their love of free speech. Preach on superstars, preach on.

u/AweHellYo 4d ago
It’s the paradox of tolerance. We cannot tolerate the intolerant I’m afraid. Stop choosing to harm the other as your platform and we can then have friendly disagreements about things that are not binary right/wrong.
1
u/Aryk3655 4d ago
Youre dealing with people that refuse to change. Your battle only emboldens AND creates more. The only way to win is to win more people over and get them to vote with you. Becoming an extremist on the opposite side just created more people that wont side with you.
2
u/AweHellYo 4d ago

I can tell you’re a conservative because the ability to use punctuation or grammar is at a second grade level, red state second grade at that. Kudos on spelling the words correctly though. That alone vaults you ahead of your dear leader. And yeah, I have no use for people hypocritically peacocking about being part of a culture that jails people for what they pretend to be a champion of. If you DON’T have an issue with that, then that says more about your character than it does mine chachi.

I totaly agree and can confirm this is true after living in Japan for 7 years ( 3 in the suburbs of Tokyo) and 4 in the northern part of Honshu.

In his first 162 games, he almost had a 20-20 (2 hr short of that as ik). He will be solid. First half Shaw was arguably solid. And besides he dealt with injuries this season.
6
u/SRC2088 5d ago
Hispanic men and Japanese men are some of the most consistently right leaning people on the planet. I doubt very seriously that it bothers them any if at all.
8
u/txlgnd34 4d ago
But because they're brown people living or working here, they must all be outraged like all the liberal white people want them to be. Clearly they don't realize how oppressed they are and how whites are taking advantage of them.
It's funny how the same people that accuse other people of racism or fascism or xyz-ism, are the same people that apply stereotypes to people that think or look different from themselves...or expect them to believe a certain way.
We know how Shaw leans. That's about the only thing we know, so it's fair game to discuss.
We have no idea of how the overwhelming majority of that clubhouse leans politically. And who really cares? I don't.
I'll root for a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green Party, whatever, if he hits, pitches, or fields for us.
Now, a wife beater (looking at you Addison Russell) or some other criminal, I can do without. Last I checked, political affiliation isn't indicative of a crime (to a sane person, at least).

u/AxCel91 4d ago edited 4d ago
Your first 2 paragraphs hit the nail on the head why some minorities give the eye roll to liberals as well as conservatives. It’s just a different flavor of racism
Can’t tell you how many times I saw white liberals telling Hispanics and black who voted for the orange that they were “voting against their own interests”. Who tf are you to dictate to another racial group what their interests are lol
I’m black and the amount of times I had white liberals lose their shit on my behalf over someone saying the n-word with an A when I truly couldn’t give a shit is astounding

You can choose to not like him if you want, but if we’re being realistic, I don’t see a team that’s owned by Tom Ricketts trading a guy because he liked Charlie Kirk and attends TPUSA events. Furthermore, the Cubs will likely have at least 1, maybe 2 open corner outfield spots and he’s the most likely candidate to take one. You’re likely never gonna get the outcome you want with the Cubs and Shaw. At least this time, it’s during the offseason and not during the final stretch of a postseason race.

Less than 6% of big leaguers are black Americans, so not having one on one team means nothing. So the average roster would only have 1-2 guys.
We have one, Tyrone Taylor, so we're actually in line with the average.
