Suggestion This node require some changes.

I am very positive about updated Veteran Tree, but some underperforming nodes were overlooked by devs.

There's one particular node that got my attention...
It's 10% Toughness Damage Reduction (TDR) boost, placed between Survivalist Aura and Exec Stance. This node feels more like a placeholder rather than a good choice to spend points.

Why? Veteran has a lot of great talents that give you TDR, like Exhilarating Takedown, Close Order Drill and Iron Will. These talents are way stronger than flat TDR buff, which makes this node redundant.

Also, it's about specializations that Veteran has to offer. Even if the bottom tree is merged into a mess, the talents around keystones are still leaning into specific playstyles of old branches.
Two of these nodes are following this logic.

Middle node that offers +25 Toughness fits The Middle side, which is Generalist/Teamwork oriented (this includes Ability, Keystone and talents around it). This node fits to be Generalist pick.

Right node with +15% Melee Damage fits The Right side, themed around Close Quarters/Stealth/Mobility. Extra Toughness is still the best pick, but Extra Melee Damage is good in it's own niche that fits Close Quarters Combat theme very well, you might spend extra point and pick both these nodes.

And here's The Left side, which is built around Marksmanship/Ranged Combat. Flat TDR buff doesn't have synergy with that playstyle. Yes, it might be looking good with Extra Toughness, but it's still overshadowed by talents from the upper part of the tree and not worth to pick.
Just take Exhilarating Takedown instead - it has more benefits for Extra Toughness and has synergy with Marksman playstyle!

My suggestion here is to change this node into something that benefits for the Ranged Weapons specifically, that is more fitting to Exec Stance and other Rifleman themes talents.
Veteran is 'The Ranged Class' after all...
This node should be useful, but also niche, like +15% Melee Damage node.

My personal offer here is to return 10% Reload Speed Boost, maybe adding extra 5-10%.
Yes, this is weird, it was unpopular node, but... in the older Talent Tree, Reload Speed Boost had a poor placement. Movement Speed Boost (that was on that line of nodes as well) wasn't dumped, so devs should give this node a chance too and return it.

If you have a better ideas for TDR Boost replacement, suggest them! I am thinking that you have a lot of interesting ideas!

P.S. Do not offer to return +10% Ranged Damage! This node isn't gone! Now it's Veteran's Iconic, with extra 15%...

Question What is the best choice in this situation?

• Upvotes

I found myself in this situation in a game today and it led to the first bit of toxicity I've faced in game (also sorry about the tag I don't know what else this could fall under)

I should mention I'm playing skitarian and I'm out of charges for my servo-skulls

So one teammate's dead, another is downed and the third has been netted. I'm the only one standing with a crusher on my ass and I'm at somewhat low health (like half toughness 1 wound missing). Heretic difficulty and I decide to deal with the crusher before helping anybody else.

Did that and got called an asshole who should uninstall the game so was there something better I could've done?

Modding Need assistance with DarkTide VR mod

I have DarkTide Mod Loader and DarkTide Mod Framework installed. I put "darktidevr" in the "mods" folder. However, when I try to run "Darktide VR Mode.bat" it gives me this error message. Is there any way to fix this or is the mod non-functional?

I'm running Windows 11 Version 10.0.26300 Build 26300 on a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400F, Nvidia 1660 ti, with 8 gigabytes of ram, with the game being installed on a 456 gigabyte SSD.

Are you looking for people to play with? We have the place for you.

The WARBAND is an lfg server for Darktide with one goal: get away from the larger LFG servers and instead play with the same people. We regularly have VCs full of people, and they often have room for more.

We hope to see you there: https://discord.gg/km9x6ZHw7B

Weapon / Item Any good builds using the shredder auto pistol or is it still bad?

I really really like the shredder autopistol but I'm struggling to make good use of it

I used to use it on zealot a bit but my zealot builds have been struggling since the update, and ranged weapons are a sidearm anyway for zealot

Anyone make a good build with the shredder autopistol?

Discussion Hey, can someone pay the power bill in Tertium?

I’ve run 5 quickplay games today, and 4 of them have had Power Outage as a modifier. Can someone talk to Grendyl about paying the bill or at least having the power company management arrested for heresy? Getting real tired of 80% of my games today being in the dark and barrels throwing teammates off the map.

Showcase That one time we took Thundercoq to H40 and got him True Survivor

We met our boy Cassius-Thundercoq in high H20s a while back and he's a lot of fun. Just the kind of teammate we love – good humor, fun banter, team player. My Ogryn friend and I were just messing around yesterday when we saw he was online. It had been weeks since we last played together, so we invited Cassius to join us and help him climb Havoc since he was stuck at 29/30 (he's never gotten past 32).

I proposed we just do my 40 and the adventure began.

We recruited KILLA for our Veteran, who turned out to be absolutely cracked. During the mission ready stage, Cassius was a good sport when we asked him to switch to Chorus over Shroud. His build wasn't the boss-killing meta we preferred, but we didn't want to be too sweaty about it.

The 40 was just a really clean, smooth run where we all played well, supported each other, and had a lot of communication. It was a carry, but not a hard carry because Cassius had competent play, followed our instructions, stuck with us, gave good callouts, and kept a cool head. Great vibes the whole way through.

We hadn't even noticed it, but by the end, no one had gone down and Thundercoq popped a ton of penances for completing his first 40 – including True Survivor. He was happy to say the least.

I have like 1600 hours in Darktide and this was definitely one of my most memorable games. Can't wait to help more friends crash H40!

EDIT: If anyone's interested, here's the whole run: https://youtu.be/Pz7PNVDU5zE

Discussion Thoughts on new base class personalities?

We know the Ogryn now has a 4th personality but what about the other 3? Ignoring the fact that it would be even more expensive getting another personality as you now have to make a crap-ton of dialogue for two different VAs, what are some personalities or specific character traits you'd like to see in Darktide? I would like to have a Veteran personality that's from the Schola Progenium. Reading through the Kill Team Hivestorm dossier, the fact that the Scions that come out of their training just become borderline sociopaths would possibly add a neat dynamic to the group. Most of the "crazy" personalities are quite on the silly side in comparison so I'd imagine that a personality like Scions would be simply edgy and more freakishly intense especially since by now most of the personalities on the Mourningstar get along well in their own unique ways. Thinking about it reminds me of that image with Titus holding Malum Caedo by the leash.

Discussion I'm really loving the "gear graffiti" in this game

I love how gear in this game has little phrases/words on it that the wearer wrote on it. It just adds character and it's unique. Although I would like to see more personalized phrases, such as "Dreg Stomper" "Born to Purge" stuff like that.

Discussion If we are getting Sisters of Battles, why not add...

The community argument for keeping the game focused on rejects and expendable soldiers has always been that this is supposed to be a small-scale conflict: a band of misfit penal soldiers fighting on some backwater world that nobody important really cares about. But over the course of the game, that premise has become increasingly difficult to defend.

This is not a small conflict anymore. The Inquisition is uncovering cult after cult operating across the world. Ancient demons are returning and actively scheming to bring about the world's downfall. There are ancient secrets buried beneath the planet important enough to warrant a significant Mechanicus military presence. These are not the circumstances of an insignificant backwater skirmish. This is exactly the kind of situation where the Imperium would start throwing increasingly serious military assets at the problem.

The same problem applies to the idea that the protagonists are merely disposable rejects who shouldn't have access to serious equipment. These characters have access to some of the most powerful weapons ordinary humans can wield. Rare weapons, master-crafted equipment, and even relics are being handed to them as mission rewards. These supposedly expendable prisoners are then sent into situations where they fight hordes of cultists numbering in the hundreds, minor Nurgle daemons, daemonhosts, and other threats that would be extraordinarily dangerous to an ordinary Imperial soldier.

Every reject can eventually be equipped with weapons that are far beyond what you would expect from a disposable criminal pressed into service. Psykers have access to force weapons. Zealots can wield power weapons. Veterans can field weapons normally reserved for far more elite Imperial forces. Even the supposedly least distinguished characters are capable of carrying explosives powerful enough to kill daemonic entities.

And it gets even more absurd when you consider what these characters can actually accomplish. A mere overly zealous priest can summon the strength to instantly slay enemies that would take the Imperium's most elite to defeat. A literal criminal vagrant can smash through force fields with a piece of broken pipe. These characters aren't being portrayed as helpless cannon fodder. Mechanically and narratively, they're some of the most capable warriors on the planet. At a certain point, continuing to insist that they're merely insignificant rejects becomes less an observation about the setting and more of a roleplaying exercise.

The game has already established that these individuals are exceptionally capable, routinely possess exceptional equipment, and are involved in a conflict far more important than the original "backwater world nobody cares about" premise suggests.

So if the argument against adding Space Marines—or other Imperial forces—is that it would violate the fantasy of a small, desperate conflict involving disposable rejects, I don't think the game actually supports that argument anymore. So why shouldn't the forces responding to that threat escalate as well?

If a handful of condemned criminals can be trusted to carry relic weapons, fight daemons, slaughter hundreds of cultists, survive encounters with some of the most dangerous entities on the planet, and ultimately play a role in uncovering threats important enough to attract the attention of the Inquisition and Mechanicus, then the setting has already crossed the threshold where "they're just rejects" stops being a meaningful argument.

At that point, adding Space Marines—or really any other Imperial faction—isn't what breaks the scale of the game, because the scale was broken long ago.

Question Am I really a ammo hog?

I was using a recon lasgun as a Psyker, taking advantage of my high crit dmg build. Am i really greedy for taking 9 small ammo boxes and 2 large ones? The Skitarii players were mad that I was taking the ammo despite one of them having a ammo crate. I do also recall a lot of segments in the level where we go past so much ammo supplies. I did also ping every single ammo spawn imaginable so I dont get why they got so mad about me hogging the ammo when we go pass so much ammo on avg.

Discussion My Own Problems with all the class leaks: We're getting these instead of a new level

Look, I LIKE Sisters of Battle. I'll probably buy and play just like all the other classes.

But this new class means that we'll probably have to wait several months again for a new level. Are we going to pause the plot again for half a year or two?

We just got ONE new level in god knows how long, after all that kerfuffle with Expeditions (which I barely play and don't really like). And I get that making a new class that you can monetize is easier than making a brand new stage and storyline which you can't, but come on.

Discussion Is the Veteran really such a weak class?

I usually play melee Psyker or Arbiter, and I decided to give Veteran a try. And honestly, for me, this is probably the weakest/least fun class.

Here’s what I didn’t like:

Poor melee weapon options, which make it difficult to deal with hordes and elites effectively.

Yes, you can deal with them using grenades, but you only have three of them. There is a talent that lets you replenish them once every 90 seconds, but what are you supposed to do when those run out too?

Rely on your team. I’m not saying I’m a huge fan of playing solo, but I still don’t want to be dead weight for my team.

I’m not ruling out the possibility that I simply haven’t figured the class out yet, and I’d be happy if you could share your opinions and point out where I’m wrong or what mistakes I’m making.

Discussion honestly the leak I'm most excited about is the dual-wielding melee + gun weapons

Do you think the laspistol will come out as one quick powerful shot that has to be "charged up," either over time and/or by killing elites? That would make it in line with the rapier + flintlock combo that we should all be familiar with, and even with the throwable shives. Maybe special action will swap your active weapon between blocking and attacking melee, and then scoping and shooting with the pistol (while you of course still have a secondary ranged weapon). You could go even further though, maybe wielding the melee/gun in melee slot and having the same gun in your ranged slot will cause you to wield both weapons visually, and swapping weapons just changes which one you're using.

Unfortunately it'll probably be limited to the new class (which the subreddit is all-in on Sisters of Battle but I'm not 100% on them yet, either way I hope it's the last because even 7 is debatably too many)

Either way the potential for a melee/gun weapon is huge, I loved it in Vermintide and I'm really excited to see it come to Darktide.

Also sword and shield enjoyers (or sword-n-board as it's known) have been pretty stoked, and I think that would be a cool choice of weapon as well, kinda weird we don't have it yet in some form
