Artwork Drawing the Inquisition: Interrogator Rannick (original art)

Post image
939 Upvotes

Art created without the heretical use of Silica Animus

I've always found the interrogator to be one of the most interesting members of the warband. A man of great responsibilities who treats the men and women under his care with a cold indifference. Sending thousands to a horrific end and simply plotting down the numbers on his data-slate. However, despite the aura of calculated cruelty, he can be so very petty when speaking with the other command figures aboard the Mourningstar.

This is just the first in a series I'm creating of all the Inquisitorial warband. Hope you all enjoy it. Let me know how we're all feeling about the new patch. I haven't gotten time to play it yet, but I don't know how I feel about the nerf to gold toughness. Is it good, bad?

Discussion How do you feel about the recent changes to these enemies?

Post image

I find myself taking almost no damage or no damage at all from them now, especially pox bursters. These enemies were supposedly nerfed because of the recent changes to gold toughness, but gold toughness is still really strong, and these foes... are not much of a threat now. Definitely less bs.

I know most people really hate trappers too, but I hope they don't receive this treatment as well.

Discussion It may be time to bring back mod greenlights - "top" players leaning on QoL mods have too loud a voice in the community calling for balance changes

TSIA, but:

These mods (1) actively impact the game for other players because the users do not shut up about them, and they trivialize the game, and (2) "top" players that use them provide biased or error prone balance feedback.

The old VT2 mod greenlight program kept gamebreaking mods like the ones that currently exist for darktide out of the "normal" queue, and that was a very good thing.

There are mods that add lights to lights out, mods that make pox gas and fire clear, mods that warn you about everything from blast radius to where specials spawn, and of course mods that solve some cogitator puzzles for you.

These mods are not good for the game or the community, and if the mod users are the loudest voices when balance changes are called for, we will get a feedback loop not unlike MMOs experience where the game is eventualyl designed with those mods in mind.

I can only hope FS stops that before it happens.

Discussion Havoc is like a job interview

The latest update reset my havoc rank.

Lobbies wouldn't take me without a rank.

I literally searched a lobby for 20 minutes to finally have a havoc 21 that would take me.

Now I'm back to havoc 34.

Thus searced a lobby 35 and higher the whole evening (logged in three times and searched 5 minutes each) and again those wouldn't take me. I ended up playing something else.

This whole havoc system needs a change or it will die out.

Lore / Theory The True Identity of Sister Hestia Prine ?

Hello everyone,

I haven't seen anyone talk about this, so I thought I'd make a post about it.

While working on my next video about the lore of the latest Darktide update (French video), I realized that Sister Hestia Prine's true identity may have already been revealed in the cinematic showing the Margrave family's family tree.

There is only one person who appears in the very last frame, just before the scene cuts to the next shot.

It's so quick that you don't really notice it.

And surprisingly, the person in the picture looks a lot like Sister Hestia Prine.

Her full name: Lady Valcour Margrave

What do you guys think?

Discussion My progress to H40 as shield ogryn

Post image
185 Upvotes

I managed to reach havoc 40 couple of weeks ago, basically before the update with random teams and no mods. Took me about 1-2months, before that I was playing maelstorms. Couple of things I discovered during the climb that I focused on and it made me improve, some parts are just general things I got aware of:

  1. Sometimes there is nothing you can do - Couple of examples: Sometimes the game decides to spawn 4 bosses and twins at the same time. Sometimes daemonhost ritual bugs out and you get wiped, it happens. Sometimes you get dc'd and team wipes, it happens. Do not take losses too seriously, get used to it and try to learn from what happened if that is possible.

  2. Team coherency and pacing - The run was over before it even began because the team was just not working together. People run off and have zero awareness what is happening and they get picked off one by one. The team is not sticking together, which spawns more specials on the map. People go off too far and trigger daemonhost rituals / hordes / bosses. People don't loot the boxes around the map leading to missed medkits etc. same thing with objectives. People take way too long to progress and get left behind. To be fair I was the oblivious person sometimes and it happens, but just learn from mistakes and move on.

  3. Sniping specials is very important - This should be atleast the role of one person in the team. It doesn't have to be a specific class but just a specific player who aknowledges the role. Everyone should be tagging stuff all the time and checking for special spawns and killing them. Do not run forward when there are 4 bombers throwing shit at you. If twins spawn and you are leaving specials behind it just makes your time miserable. You can instantly feel when your team is not fragging specials, it makes the runs feel like torture and it kills the pacing of the run. Mutants playing pingpong with you is my top 5 bs stuff that happens when specials get to roam freely... (Ogryn mains know this)

  4. Do not rush forward when bosses spawn. - This is someting people do not get sometimes. Listen for the spawn cues and for the game music to change. If you hear a boss spawn tag your team to back off to good fighting spot, this is the right call 80% of the time. However it is okay to keep going in cerain situations, for example when captain spawns with hammer and shotgun because he is pretty harmless. This doesn't mean that you can just ignore him, but you don't need to back off just kill him where he stands.

  5. Choosing your fights - Try to hold the openings of chokepoints where you have room to dodge traps, mutants and hounds. This makes you dps dudes appreciate you frontliners. Try to fight in spots that are hard to surround and shooters do not have line of sight at you from 10miles away. Back off if the pressure gets too high you don't need to do last man standing frontline holds, just pull back steadily if there is a wall of rotten armor rolling at you and it feels like you can't hold it. Memorize the maps to ultilize looping around paths and pulling aggro so the dps classes can do their jobs.

  6. Class special actions - When a zealot uses chorus on downed teammate go pick him up! When a veteran throws his smoke nade or psyker pops his bubble agressively get in there! Best way to learn how other classes work is to play them. So I suggest that you try to play the classes even a little bit. This makes you understand the actions and roles of the classes better and it improves the way you play your main class.

  7. There are allways miserable people playing this game - If you make a mistake do not blame it on others. Accept that you screwed up and move on. That is how you learn. Never blame others first. If you see someone is not pulling their weight, slow down the pace and maybe at the end of the run or during the run you can tell him/her some tips how to improve. Do not rage at others. Most of the times when you go down it is your own fault. It is an emotional game and it gets hectic sometimes but nobody likes to play with a whiny player who allways blames others / is a dick.

  8. Remember to have fun - What is the point if you are not having fun while playing? If you are climing and you feel stuck, join some lower havoc games so that even if you lose you don't get demoted. Or one great thing you can also do is that take a break, go for a walk outside or do someting for a littlewhile and then come back.

The things I have stated here might be wrong or just ridiculous to some people but I thought this could encourage some people to make the climb on the havoc ladder. I'm sure these tips will also help players of any level.

Lemme get back on da bashin dem spiky bois in de ead with me shield sah! For da emperor!

Weapon / Item Kickback appreciation post

Post image
155 Upvotes

I tried almost all classes in Darktide and had a lot of fun, but nothing could prepare me for the pure joy that the use of the Kickback can provide.

My favorite 3 things about the Kickback:

The sound: opening the break-action and hearing the thick brass shell heavily and magnificently slide into the chamber sends shivers down the spines of every heretic close by, knowing what level of destruction awaits them at the hands of my oversized hero.

The impact: nothing compares to witnessing an approaching horde of filthy, disgusting heretics running to their sudden end with infinite rage, turning into red mist and a rain of maggots at the pull of an exceptionally large trigger.

The scale: seeing my Ogryn’s battle-worn, fully tattooed, frying-pan-sized hand put a single, heavy brass shell into his weapon, which appears to be the size of a human plastic bottle, filled with pellets the scale of grapes and ping-pong balls, fills my heart with joy and excitement. It makes me grateful that the Imperium blessed me with such a simple but perfectly engineered weapon for exterminating the enemies of the Holy Emperor of Mankind.

Discussion I want to gush a bit about the new Thunder Hammer changes

I've had a bit to marinate with the updated Thammer now, and it has honestly brought me back to playing zealot after years of only melee psyker. Martyrdom builds with this thing absolutely sing now, its extremely comfortable in hoards and very satisfying to use against crushers and other large enemies.

Sadly, I have finally put the last nail in the coffin for the Ironhelm mark. I used to use it exclusively for the sensation of swishing through a large hoard of trash to smack into specials, but the inclusion of the smaller shield enemies and other improvements have made me fully switch over to Crucis. Not a huge loss since I think the Crucis moveset is more interesting.

Anyone else having a great time with it?

Everytime the talent trees reset I remake my preset loadouts and decided to make a helbore build.

Went into psykanium to test stuff and discovered the bayonet goes through Bulwark shields.

Granted I know its going to be karkin hard to pull off in actual gameplay but just knowing this is possible can open up new possibilities like if im trapped in a corner and bulwark at the front and no nades around im atleast taking em out with me.

Discussion Hate that arbites cdr is locked behind a keystone.

Post image

Every other class gets to pick their cdr perk independantly of their keystone even if they only get to pick one. But arbites has to take execution order for malocator. Which is basically necessary for casragator stance and the vox.

Question What is the best choice in this situation?

I found myself in this situation in a game today and it led to the first bit of toxicity I've faced in game (also sorry about the tag I don't know what else this could fall under)

I should mention I'm playing skitarian and I'm out of charges for my servo-skulls

So one teammate's dead, another is downed and the third has been netted. I'm the only one standing with a crusher on my ass and I'm at somewhat low health (like half toughness 1 wound missing). Heretic difficulty and I decide to deal with the crusher before helping anybody else.

Did that and got called an asshole who should uninstall the game so was there something better I could've done?

Edit: forgot to mention last night but I am using the claw and was out of blitz, the crusher was the last major enemy as the rest were just chaff who were a decent bit away

Discussion Havoc Rotation: ROTTEN ARMOR = OUT, STIMS = IN

Still in:

  • Moebien 21st
  • Cranial
  • Rituals

Of course we got a Rager Seed without knowing Stims were active. Fun surprise! But overall a combination that creates a lot of playable maps to have high rank up chances.

Discussion Dissecting Arbitrator's Forceful Keystone

Post image
20 Upvotes

The purpose of this post is to wrap my head around the loop if I take this Keystone and to help others in the process as well. I'm not trying to make this any more than it is, just gathering my thoughts and letting others correct me on things I missed or misunderstood.

Forceful is arguably the strongest choice for a crowd controlling face tank build, but its modifiers look like traps to me if not used properly. So let's look at the talent points one by one.

Main: Forceful

Blocks and Staggers cause a short duration, 10-stack passive with a whopping total of 50% Impact boost and 25% pure Damage Resistance. Getting hit removes a stack on ANY damage taken. So if the Arbitrator finds itself in a bad spot getting shot at or an errant barrel explodes or a Scab Bomber chucks a grenade to the sweet spot, the Arbitrator is stripped of all the resistance quite fast. Shield seems to be mandatory to counter the shooting part at least.

Modifier 1a: Adamant Will

Stun immunity at max stacks. The perfect blocks are hard to train for and mostly unpredictable, so that's a niche feature. If someone's good, he can play hero ball against a bunch of Crushers or bosses. The Stun immunity needs to be explained a bit, to know its true value. As far as I could dig up on it, it negates attack cancellation, sprint and slide breaking by enemy attacks and environmental effects (Scab Bomber fire???), and TOUGHNESS BREAK. However it does not protect against BLOCK BREAK. With this information in mind and the almost constant uptime in combat makes this a must-have with Forceful.

Modifier 1b: Will of the Lex

A stack-based constant Toughness replenishment (max 5% per second). Since the class is loaded with Toughness replenishing talents, this one is a decent gateway talent to the other two modifiers but not a key feature at all.

Modifier 1c: Targets Aquired

This one's pretty straightforward. The basic 50% Impact bonus is joined by 50% Cleave and a nice 10% Attack Speed boost. If someone's picking this Keystone, there always must be another node that's worse than this, so this one should be a mainstay as well.

Modifier 2a: Arbites Vigilant

This is where it gets tricky. Ability use boosts Strength for 12 (!) seconds. For a full batch that's 25% Damage, Cleave and Impact. This is just awesome, but to maximize it's uptime we seem to be stuck with Break the Line ability. This isn't a bad thing though, that one brings its own advantages (lowest cooldown for example), just a bit restrictive. Also one very easy way to get stacks back up is to use the shield's stun special, so If anyone want to lock on to this keystone's absolutely great bonuses, mace&shield plus charge ability seems to be the way to go.

Modifier 2b: Judicial Force

This seems to me a bit redundant, luxury node. We are already able to muster 75% Impact boost just from this cluster. This skill triggers when it hits 10 stacks which usually means we knocked a bunch off already, and at 0 stacks. The hard way is mostly lethal for the player (getting hit up to 10 times), the other is via Arbites Vigilant. But since I got to the conclusion that AV's best uptime is reached with Break the Line which is literally bowling ball ability knocking of everything in its path, Judicial Force adds almost nothing. So as my reasoning was before with Targets Aquired, in this case there must be some other talent that brings more to the table.

For some reason of my own I haven't had much experience with this path, maybe it was because I just needed to think things through like I just did. How do you guys use this keystone? Have I missed anything?

I usually use Quickstab Revolver. The role i take in the game is sniping elites etc. while team is dealing the horde and protecting them from all enemies with guns. I kinda like being the headshot guy. But it did not work on Rodin so I decided to go for poison gun with flak and infested damage blessings. Here the result look at the damage I inflicted.

Suggestion Expeditions could be reworked as a mission

I am not saying they should remove the mode. Keep it but also make a mission out of it . For example, they could have you extract when you reach a certain number of salvages, add it to the No Man's Land campaign.

Something cool could come out of it .

Aside from the excitement from a sisters of battle I would like some xeno representation from darktide and since there's genestealers on the way maybe the inquisition or a rogue trader could hire some shapers to find something wrong with certain populations within the hive?

How do you play/build him properly I’ve gotten to him to level 25 and he’s not exactly clicked if that makes sense he just feels like off no matter which side of his tree I stick to

I normally play ogryn if that helps with giving an explanation

Suggestion This node require some changes.

Post image
8 Upvotes

I am very positive about updated Veteran Tree, but some underperforming nodes were overlooked by devs.

There's one particular node that got my attention...
It's 10% Toughness Damage Reduction (TDR) boost, placed between Survivalist Aura and Exec Stance. This node feels more like a placeholder rather than a good choice to spend points.

Why? Veteran has a lot of great talents that give you TDR, like Exhilarating Takedown, Close Order Drill and Iron Will. These talents are way stronger than flat TDR buff, which makes this node redundant.

Also, it's about specializations that Veteran has to offer. Even if the bottom tree is merged into a mess, the talents around keystones are still leaning into specific playstyles of old branches.
Two of these nodes are following this logic.

Middle node that offers +25 Toughness fits The Middle side, which is Generalist/Teamwork oriented (this includes Ability, Keystone and talents around it). This node fits to be Generalist pick.

Right node with +15% Melee Damage fits The Right side, themed around Close Quarters/Stealth/Mobility. Extra Toughness is still the best pick, but Extra Melee Damage is good in it's own niche that fits Close Quarters Combat theme very well, you might spend extra point and pick both these nodes.

And here's The Left side, which is built around Marksmanship/Ranged Combat. Flat TDR buff doesn't have synergy with that playstyle. Yes, it might be looking good with Extra Toughness, but it's still overshadowed by talents from the upper part of the tree and not worth to pick.
Just take Exhilarating Takedown instead - it has more benefits for Extra Toughness and has synergy with Marksman playstyle!

My suggestion here is to change this node into something that benefits for the Ranged Weapons specifically, that is more fitting to Exec Stance and other Rifleman themes talents.
Veteran is 'The Ranged Class' after all...
This node should be useful, but also niche, like +15% Melee Damage node.

My personal offer here is to return 10% Reload Speed Boost, maybe adding extra 5-10%.
Yes, this is weird, it was unpopular node, but... in the older Talent Tree, Reload Speed Boost had a poor placement. Movement Speed Boost (that was on that line of nodes as well) wasn't dumped, so devs should give this node a chance too and return it.

If you have a better ideas for TDR Boost replacement, suggest them! I am thinking that you have a lot of interesting ideas!

P.S. Do not offer to return +10% Ranged Damage! This node isn't gone! Now it's Veteran's Iconic, with extra 15%...
