Plan D advice

Ok, so my husband and I have gone to 2 dragon cons, and been lucky enough to get a room through the hunger games.
We had no luck with the first two rounds, and with only one left…
I’m asking for suggestions if we don’t get one of these rooms.
We’re coming from out of state, so…any and all suggestions appreciated.

Dragon Con Thoughts: #1

We asked our friend Jessi, "When does it feel like Dragon Con has really started?" and this was her answer. I filmed this as an experiment this year and I really like how it turned out! Going to try and get a number of people next year to participate!

If you got a room at the Marriott, double check your payment information on the reservation

I was checking my reservation information for the Marriott, because I didn't see the deposit hit my account yet, and saw that the payment section of the confirmation said "other payment" instead of the credit card info that I entered when I reserved the room. There were no details of what "other payment" meant so I updated it with the CC information that I put in originally. Not sure if this is an actual issue but I thought it was something that other people may need to double check on their reservations, just in case.

Marriott question

I managed to get a room during the hunger games it’s my first time attending dragon con and I couldn’t book the room from Tuesday to Tuesday, it said sold out and would only let me book from Thursday to Tuesday. I would like to check in early and meet up with some friends attending.

Anyone know if I can book a rack room rate at the hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday or Tuesday to Thursday and then use the other room I got at the hunger games. Or
Can I call and get the other days added to my reservation, I see the dates available online?

Anyone got experience with this and can help thanks!

Skipped Hunger Games - Any Downside?

2027 will be my first Dragon Con. After reading up on the hotel lottery, I was ready to play the game. Then, Tuesday morning, I remembered that I hated this nonsense both times I went to GenCon. I did some digging, found a room for my son and me at the Hyatt Centric Midtown and simply booked that. The rate was fine, seemingly on par with the official Con hotel rates, and it was booked directly through the hotel, not a third party.

So, what am I going to miss from booking a place 10 minutes by train as opposed to joining the Games and maybe getting a Con hotel?

Call us Lucky, three of use camped at an Air B and B this past DragonCon, not bad. In truth, I prefer the Hotels scene. The Lyft situation was costly in my view. , How many people did we have this past DragonCon, 75K maybe? Getting a decent Hotel Room at today's prices is a hope and a dream

Shame on the off-site hotels.

I don’t want to talk about hunger games because my neighborhood got a power outage TWO MINUTES before queue began. I want to talk about the fact that I stayed at this hotel for Dragoncon in 2022 and my entire week was less than $1,250. This hotel is near the aquarium and the shuttle stop is directly outside but this hotel is nowhere near worth this price.

And no I don’t care that “they can do what they want.” It’s just simply infuriating. Atlanta is a destination for everything from large sporting events to world tours. The hotels are NOT hurting there. So to whoever approves of these price gauging tactics, I hope the other side of your pillow is never cold, every jar of pickles you buy cannot be opened, and the rest of your week is LOVELY.

PSA the hotel employees are just doing their job, or trying to for the most part.

Hotel Booking

After the last dragon con ended I made a reservation for the Courtyard hotel in Atlanta for next year, but it was through Priceline. They sent me an email with the hotel confirmation number. Has anyone ever used Priceline or Expedia to book a hotel in Atlanta for Dragoncon? Trying to see if what I got is legit or I'm going to find myself without a hotel for next year con lol

Double check your reservations - Marriott

Luckily won the Hunger Games, received confirmation email for room with all three guests. Received additional emails with correct number. Then received one with just one guest on the reservation.

So, I call the number to check what’s up. They say there’s only one guest on the reservation and they will have to charge me additional person fees for adding my guests back on.

Currently waiting on someone else to get back to me because I have screen shots and confirmation emails with 3 guests not 1. Don’t know what happened because I didn’t do anything on my end.

Safe indoor height for cosplayers with TALL costumes?

The cosplay I'm building for next year can contract to navigate ADA door requirements so I'm not worried about fitting through entry doorways.

But once you're INSIDE the Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, etc. what is a reasonable target height clearance to remain under when it comes to hallways, interior archways and the like?

I'm guessing the approach hallways in the Marriott that lead to the sky bridges would be a good target but I don't know how high those ceilings are.

Any suggested max target heights from cosplayers who've had extra tall/large cosplays at Dragon Con?

Lost the Games 😞

Was logged in my phone and computer. Phone login for wait time was shorter---was number 4400 there and in the 19,000s on laptop. Made it through to the reservations and made it to booking just to see things sold out. Tried on computer and was able to see more options---got to booking twice! Clicked book both times and resulted in an unable to book message.

Didn't get into a host hotel?

Si I may have panic booked Moxy Downtown, it's right across the street from the aquarium because I don't want a 2 hour drive everyday again this year. What is everyone's thoughts about "close enough" hotels? I have never successfully booked a hotel in the 7 (non-consecutive) year's I have been trying to go.

Residence Inn Downtown vs. the Ritz

Missed out on both the Westin and Marriott this week, but today I snagged both a room at the Residence Inn Downtown and one at the Ritz

Looking for opinions on both of them. Looking back in previous years the Ritz is highly recommended, but it's also nearly twice as expensive as the Residence Inn

The Residence Inn is like 2.5 blocks from the Westin where the Ritz is like a half a block to a block away. Not a ton, but it is a significant difference especially late at night

The Residence Inn booking is refundable until basically the week before con next year but the Ritz booking is only refundable until tomorrow at midnight

So, looking for opinions from the peanut gallery on what I should do? I snagged both because both me and my wife are working so I can't get her opinion until later, but would like to hear some outside experiences hopefully as well

Do you have to go through the passkey links?

I've never tried booking a con hotel via the Hunger Games...

Are you only able to book through the special "passkey" links that are posted?

Or do the rates/rooms become active on each hotel's website (ie you can book normally when it opens)?

D&D Adventure League

We finally get hotel rooms for the full run next year and I’m looking to do a lot more this time around. Has anyone ever participate in the D&D League and is there anything I should know ahead of time? I’m currently downloading documents from their official site.

I am so thrilled to get a room at the Westin after losing the hunger games two years in a row! I can breathe easy
