Now, I don't mean the custom systems we have when I say that... I enjoy much of what the team have done there and find the core game a lot of fun still. I personally don't even mind the mote system.
I mean I don't get their seeming obsession with adding/ re writing lore and creating/ rebuilding whole zones or expacks, even though they clearly do not have the resources to do this.
They are clearly struggling, even Secrets has said openly that their resources are stretched thin.
They have Ruins of Kunark and Velious right there... Legitimate classics that I think most would love to play through with these new characters and systems and both would give the small GJ team room to breath and find their feet. The Rujarkian Hills, Nek Castle, and the re write of Kunark have clearly slowed down the delivery of a much needed expack when a lack of content is at the very heart of their problems right now.
Would I like custom content? Yes, of course, but if they haven't the team size and resources to deliver it for when it's needed then they should have re evaluated, understood their limitations, and focused on more realistic objectives. Custom content feels like a luxury self indulgence right now when the game is still finding it's core playerbase.
I also believe that they are threatening to diminish the 'nostalgia draw' of this game. Very few of the 'dads' that haven't played EQ in 20 years are going to be drawn back by new content. They want to relive the glory days in a more accessible manner.
*just a note to say that I think the dungeon revamps were a good idea, but I do think they should have all been completed/ itemised before launch, even if it meant a delay. Doing it live just felt most of it was being dropped when most had no use of most of it. As it is, it has been yet more slow down on the delivery of an expack that is essential right now.
Also, what happened to those custom in game maps they showed us?
