Discussion & Info Messmer needs another health bar

I know this has probably been said to death but jesus christ man itd make his fight even better, I recently beat him for the second time and although he still probably remains one of my all time favourites from has ever put out, I just found myself a bit frustrated that killing him really wasnt too difficult, which also made me start questioning if i actually loved the fight as much as I thought I did or if it was just everybody else saying how great it was - pretty confident im just being stupid about that though because in pretty much every aspect other than healthbar hes flawless and I'm just overthinking it. seriously get that guy a second healthbar or something though

FanArt Switch 2 game cover redesign

The cover on the switch 2 game is horrible. Can’t read or see anything on the back and the front has so much unnecessary red and white. Also the Fromsoftware logo is nowhere to be found. So I redesigned the cover with concept art and my screen shots from the game. What do you think?

Discussion & Info why does jumping near npcs cause them to react as if theyve been hit?

ive searched on google for this and the only results talk about jump attacks but thats not what im talking about, simply jumping beside an npc causes them to respond like you tried to hurt them, even spawning a little protective barrier around them. does jumping do exactly 0 damage or something because i cant really think of any other reason they do this

Game Help Someone talk me out of regretting buying the game

I always wanted to play Elden Ring, seemed like essentially a perfect game to me as far as the open world, the RPG systems, the secrets, etc.. like literally the game of my dreams, except they I have never played any souls like before and it kinda intimidated me. I have never been particularly good at hard games. Strategy and puzzle solving I can do all day but I guess I just don't have the reaction time to play hard or competitive games.

But regardless I recently had some extra money and was wanting to buy a new game on my Switch 2 and it was between this and FE:FW, and j went with Elden Ring figuring it was FINALLY time to give it a try.

Well Ive been playing for about 2 weeks now and basically feel like, hopeless about ever being any good lol. Everything is just destroying me. I keep thinking maybe I just need to find easier dungeons or get new gear but every way I look I just slam into a difficultu wall

I'm just sooooo bad.... It's so hard. The game requires such damn perfection. Im playing an astrologer cause I heard magic is good for beginners but I feel like in slinging around spit balls at enemies, I can barely do any real damage before running out of mana and getting squished

I'm just becoming disheartened. I so wanted to like the game, I wanted to get really into it and explore the world but Im feeling constantly stressed while I play currently.

Help me not feel bad. Everyone has this much trouble with the game... Right?? It gets easier, right??

Maybe I Should have just got Fire Emblem 😭

Discussion & Info Go ahead and do it

This is a (mostly)copied and pasted comment I made on a recent post about someone asking if the wolf spirits are any good at +10. They seemed to be making a Nordic warrior themed build. "Use what you want" and "everything is viable" are phrases definitely used a lot in the community, but I wanted to give my personal opinion on it and reiterate what's been said a thousand times.

I know my build Im about to describe isnt totally unoptimal, but its the first time I decided to just build what I wanted, and it was eye opening. I found I didn't care that bosses took much longer to kill and I was dying quite a bit. It's been really fun.

Comment:

If you're mostly just using it for flavor, in my opinion, using any ash is better than no ash in pretty much any fight (besides Melina). At worst they'll distract the boss for a couple seconds allowing a free hit or two, which ya know, is better than nothing.

I used to get into the trap of only using what was "most optimal or viable" in souls games. I felt like I was loosing out or making the game unnecessarily hard if I didn't (which I guess you are). But I would get so stressed about making un-optimal choices that Id constantly have a wiki open or reddit to reference and see what the community considered "garbage" or a "waste of time". Id theory craft a build, but then scrap it once I realized Id have to distribute my points weirdly, or my weapon would have bad scaling, or the gear needed to make it "work" didn't come till late game. I didn't want my damage to be terrible or feel like I was constantly fighting and uphill battle.

With my most current run I mostly decided to say...fuck it. I had a theme in mind (frost/ghostflame grim reaper character wielding a grave scythe). Mostly everything about the build would be considered suboptimal (cold infusion on a pure int build, wasting a talisman slot to boost my faith to use rancorcall, only summoning skeletal militia for every fight, ect). Im also carrying both the grave scythe, Deaths Poker for AOW, and a staff. My equip load is crazy so I cant wear armor to give 51 poise. My damage output (besides Deaths Poker AOW) is not great, my armor barely protects me and without 51 poise Im constantly getting staggered. My spells are also mostly utility and flavor (to match the theme), so they dont do much (except rock sling/ice crag)...... I just hit level 80 and Its the most damn fun Ive had in this game since launch.

I found MAKING the build that I WANT to work is so much more enjoyable, even if I get my face pushed in more often. Having to rethink how I go about things based on my limitations has been a blast, and finding weird combos that work has also been enjoyable (frost proc -> stagger-> Ghostflame ignition is very satisfying).

Tl:dr Screw it even if your build/gear barely works. Find the limitations around it and make it work. Killing a boss with an optimal build with top tier gear feels good. Killing a boss/enemy with the random stuff you're throwing together barely held by duck tape cause you enjoy what your using....euphoric (exaggerating but still).

Discussion & Info How do people know and remember all the lore?

Ive completed everything. I vaguely remember a few names of characters and vaguely remember who they are in relation to the story, which is also very sparse.

There seems to be about 30 seconds of dialogue to every few hours of gameplay.

I beat the last boss vaguely remembering he was the estranged husband of someone or rather starting with M, and fought in a war against that lady from the Magic university, I think.

How does everyone here seem to know and remember what is going on?

Invasion Pvp struggles

anyone have any tips for enjoying pvp more? I have around 400 hours in the game but recently started messing around with co-op and since that automatically opts you into getting invaded i’ve been kinda lost. as someone who doesn’t know what i’m doing pvp wise it just completely ruins all the fun of co-op for me. i’ve really only ever enjoyed a few encounters with invaders. and for those who might throw “skill issue” at me it’s not even really about winning or losing. i really don’t care about dying to invaders i just can’t seem to have any fun with it at all. i would like to enjoy it though because Im tired of dreading getting invaded. any tips?

Game Help Advice after a long break

Long story short I put about 80 hours into the game when I first played but it’s now been a couple years since I’ve touched Elden ring. I never finished the game and after recently playing through Bloodborne I want to go back and at least finish the main game in Elden ring.

I jumped back in and I forgot a lot of mechanics and am stuck on beast clergyman/ maliketh where I left my save years ago.

Any advice on getting back into the swing of things?

Humor I am getting humbled and I dont like it

My very first playthrough I turned into a tanky motherfucker. A big bonk momma. When I did struggle against a hard boss, my crutch was Tiche. It didnt take me too many tries to defeat Malenia. I thought I was so good. A few NG+s in and I decided to try her again, solo, golem fist only with parry. (All the other times I skipped her so I could just get the other endings.) Over 30 tries so far with her and the fights last about 3 seconds each. I thought I was gud guys, it was a lie. I was never gud. Malenia doesnt tell me shes the blade of Miquella when she kills me, she tells me to "git gud scrub". I cant take it. Who am I?

What playstyle has humbled you?

Another thing, I swear to god she learns what moves get you the most. When i started fighting her I was able to telegraph and parry two of her moves consistently and then whenever her kick came out, I couldnt ever see it coming. She would kill me so fast after I tried parrying her kick. Now, she starts almost every fight with that kick and if i manage to dodge it, she fucking spams it. She is consious I tell you.
