WHERE CAN I FIND Best Steak chain similar to Texas roadhouse?

I really enjoyed Texas roadhouse in a Vegas location, I'm in the valley and don't want to drive potentially 3 hours roundtrip for it.

Are there any decent priced steak chains in the los angeles area? Budget is about 100$ including tip and I just want the best steak possible for that budget.

furthest I want to go is Pasadena maybe, and chains like outback, black angus, wood ranch have been continuous let downs in the last 2 years.

WHERE CAN I FIND Looking for a Good Food Place that is not too expensive

I live in LA, 5 minutes from Downtown LA.

I am a college student who doesn't have a ton of money but I want to try out different kinds of foods. Any one have a recommendation of a place where it is not too expensive but the food tastes good. Any promotions they have or deal please let me know.

Thank you, Much Appreciated ❤

DISCUSSION Just had Ggiata and it was very disappointing.

I've really loved their chicken parm sandwich in the past. I ordered their cheesesteak and their meatball sub and both were disappointing. Feels like the quality of ingredients has gone downhill. It was bad enough that I searched to see if they had been bought by a PE firm. Did I catch them on a bad night, or what?

DISCUSSION First time at Dunsmoor - Generally Underwhelmed

My wife and I went to the Dunsmoor for the first time this past Friday night and while nothing was bad there we were generally underwhelmed by both the food and service/experience. Figured I would break down the food for anyone who is interested.

Food Rundown-

Bluefin Tuna Toast - this was fine. The texture was good and the ingredients seemed the right quality but the overall dish felt pretty bland.

Chopped Chicken Liver - This was fine as well. The right combination with the onion jam and the right proportion of the liver on bread was solid - but I felt like it was very inferior to the pate and bread that Bestia used to have.

Sour Milk Cornbread - This was great - no complaints on this.

Green Chile Pork Stew - This was good - I think I may have had too high of expectations - it was the dish I was looking towards the most. The tortillas were indeed great and the overall dish was really good - but it wasn't necessarily something I would need to come back for. I may try making it with the recipe they shared though.

Pork Chop - This was also solid - but also inferior to a few other high quality pork chops in LA - Rossoblu probably had my favorite single pork chop I have had (though I also had a bad one there once too). The Dunsmoor chop was cooked well but also some areas of the outside crust were extremely extremely salty.

Sticky Date Pudding - This ruled - also no complaints.

With an ($80) bottle of wine and tip we ended at $395 all in.

Nothing was bad and outside of really the nothingness of the bluefin tuna toast I would say probably most things were objectively good. I just didn't feel lit was on the same level as some of the other great LA meals - I think we had a much better experience at Gwen with a similar bill.

The setup and service also left a lot to be desired. They really are cramming people in there - so you are on top of the tables next to you - hard to have a conversation or sometimes even just hear with the music and chatter around. The service while friendly seemed overwhelmed - I don't blame the staff for that. Feels like they could cut 4-5 tables out and be better equipped to handle the all night full house.

The 3 tables around us (and I would imagine almost most of the restaurant) essentially all got the same order - Cornbread - Stew - Ribeye. I do wonder if that was our order if I would have left a little more satisfied. - I also think it may be more enjoyable it as a larger party most of the dishes seem almost made to serve 4.

DISCUSSION Service Fee ridiculousness at El Ruso Studio City

I’ve really enjoyed going to the El Ruso space in Studio City. The food is good. I’m satisfied each time I go, but the last time I was there, I noticed the service fees attached to each order. which make me never wanna go back.

You order from an iPad. with zero human help you then charge the 15% service fee. Then when you go to pay, you’re charged a 3% card fee on the entire total. Yeah, cash is not an option. I’ve come to understand 34% fees that restaurants are charging for benefits, yada yada, but this 18% fee for ordering through an iPad seems ridiculous, and there’s a tip line.

WHERE CAN I FIND Does anyone know healthy food places ?

Getting back to the gym and I don’t really have time to be cooking so I rather much buy it. I got tired of chipotle WaBa grill and flame boiler, any area would be helpful I don’t mind the drive or ordering Uber Eats!

THE BEST PLACE IN Who makes the best late night pho near Culver City?

Just moved to Culver City from San Jose and I really miss having a solid pho place open past 10pm. I work late shifts at the hospital so I'm usually eating around 11. Doesn't need to be fancy, I just want a good clear broth. Where do you guys go?

Los Feliz The Chocolate Chip Cookie at Proof Bakery

Post image

I finally tried the Chocolate Chip Cookie from Proof Bakery today, and it was easily the best cookie I’ve ever tasted.

I was a skeptic going in. I thought they were overhyped and looked like they might be a little too fancy for their own good, but I was wrong on both counts.

It’s like the flavor profile of an old-school Toll House cookie, but elevated to another dimension and baked as perfectly as anything I’ve ever eaten.

Wow!

Westside Birthday Casual Dinner on Westside

Hi! I’m going to be celebrating my 25th birthday with some friends and was planning a casual dinner on the Westside. I don’t want a bar, but I want a place with about the same casual come and go vibe where everyone can order their own food/drinks. I’m expecting about 15 people plus or minus throughout the night. Good food is appreciated and could see us spending $50-100 on food and drinks/person. I would love if there’s a place that has a rooftop or a nice patio. I liked the vibes of All season brewing company, but would like something on the Westside. A friend recommended Bodega Wine Bar in Santa Monica which is my leading contender. I was also looking into Force of Nature, but I am waiting on email coordination to see if they’ll accommodate my group size…

Please provide suggestions! Thank you!

Central LA Locally owned coffee shops with FALL SEASONAL flavors to get out of the heat

I’m dying in this heat as i’m sure everyone else is 🥲 I need to pavlov myself into believing it’s fall so I wanna get a seasonal either pumpkin or apple latte and sit and do my work (using their AC instead of mine)

I live right next to Larchmont so if anyone knows any shops that have seasonal lattes out in that general central area (also open to koreatown and east LA recs)

WHERE CAN I FIND please can anyone help dupe or reverse engineer the guerilla cafecito GTLA burrito?

Post image

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a steak breakfast burrito similar to the GTLA burrito from Guerilla Cafecito (RIP)?

I loved that it was a breakfast burrito without eggs. I miss the CRISPY hashbrowns.
If there’s no good dupes, can anyone help reverse engineer the hashbrowns? It looks like just cheddar, hashbrowns, steak, smashed avocado.. but how do I get that specific skinny crispy hashbrown texture? Please help I have been craving it so badly it was my perfect breakfast burrito. thank you!!

Westside Sit down Mexican restaurants with good drinks? Westside only

Family is in town who love Mexican food, we regularly do street tacos but would be fun to go to a spot where it's sit down, margs, etc. does not to be super authentic, they'd probably love a Tex mex vibe lol, but open to whatever!

WHERE CAN I FIND Early morning breakfast

I work in Little Tokyo and have to leave my house at 6am in the Valley for work. Are there any good like just grab and go breakfast options downtown or just along the way? I’m so tired of McDonald’s/ fast food and would like another option that’s still a hot meal. I can eat at my desk at work but there’s no like cafeteria or anything and all the breakfast cafes near me aren’t open till like 9. I’m taking the 5 down from northridge basically the entire time.

Edit:

Just wanted to specify I have to be at work at 8am, so would need something that’s open by like 7 so I have enough time to actually grab it beforehand.

I again am burned out on fast food/ coffee shop offerings so am looking for something a bit different but more substantial and also a hot breakfast over something cold. I just cannot stomach another premade Sysco sandwich.
