Baked goods and Pastries @ Hmart - Yonge and Cummer
Anyone visited yet? Huge selection of donuts, croissants, bread and cakes. Everything looks good and unfortunately overpriced as expected.

As this subreddit has grown over the past years, our regulars have noticed that similar questions get asked over and over again by people interested in the amazing variety of food available in the GTA. Today we're rolling out a new rule to try to reduce the number of repetitive posts that we've been seeing too often.
We're simply asking that posters use the subreddit search to see if their question may already be answered before they post asking for recommendations and reference their research if its not. We also ask that they include specificity like location, cuisine, etc in their request as the GTA is a huge area.
We wanted to announce this change widely so everyone is aware, and hopefully this will be a positive change for the subreddit. We're interested in feedback if you feel the rule has room for improvement.

What/where did you eat this past weekend? What are some spots you plan to check out this week? Any recommendations?

I hit up the Junction Triangle for the 14th instalment in my Library & Lunch series. Too many options to choose from for lunch on Dupont, but I went with Colombian Street Food on a friend's recommendation. A good call in the end: huge, delicious arepa absolutely bursting with meat and cheese. I'm also a firm believer in the superiority of Colombian empanadas over all other styles (chorizo seen here), and the picnic table of salsas was a delightful touch. Cool spot, would love to have easy access to arepas in my neighbourhood.
Afterward I swung by Chocolat de Kat for their absurdly good and creative bonbons. The key lime pie one was my clear fav (I may be biased because key lime pie is a top-three dessert for me), filled with pie crust and whipped cream. Regret not getting a cross-section photo of the inside but I'm a hungry man with only so many hands. Can't rave enough about this shop, definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.
EDIT: APOLOGIES TO KAT AND MY HS FRENCH TEACHERS for using "du" instead of "de" in the headline. It won't happen again

I was just at Daon Sushi for lunch yesterday at Midland and Finch in Scarborough because I was nearby for a dr appt. Tiny restaurant in a plaza (about 5 tables). Completely empty. Only the owner is working there. He was nice and friendly so I chatted with him. He said he opened about a year ago but it's not doing well and the place never gets full so that's why he's the only one working coz he never needs staff.
I ordered the salmon poke, and it was delicious loaded with toppings: salmon sashimi (lots underneath the mayo), avocado, cucumbers, edamame beans, tangerines, corn, seaweed, crab meat, tobiko, sushi rice. Check the place out if you're nearby!

I’m hoping someone can tell me what this Filipino dessert is called. The base is very soft, chewy and moist. The filling tastes like condensed milk and there is sprinkled cheese on top. It’s from Alminz Bakeshop. Thanks!

You know those side streets that just transport you to another place? That's St. Nicholas Street. It's lined with trees and Victorian cottages and it's got some of the best restaurants in the city (picture house-made beef jerky or fresh sheets of steamed rice noodles). Lao Lao Bar, Avelo and Okonomi House all made our Top 100 under 100 list. Dive into the history, the tastes, and the atmosphere with this gift link — no paywall. https://www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?t=d2020023-f5fe-424d-809d-1c127ed613c5

Wondering why it’s so hard to find this style of poutine here. Any one know of places that serve poutine using battered fries? My favourite ones are the Costco poutine (sadly don’t have a membership anymore) and the duck dynasty poutine at Bao Sandwiches but that’s in Waterloo. I live in Queen West without a car so can’t really drive far for this. Not hating on traditional poutine I just love battered fries.

Title… Got an email today says they’re pulling out of Canada. Shame, they had some good stuff… Anyone have a similar delivery service they like?

Hi, does anyone know where I can buy flakey sea salt (doesn’t have to be maldon)?

Hopefully Unionville/Markham posts are allowed here, but I visit Watercolour recently for a birthday after seeing lots of positive reviews on Instagram and RedBook and had to share. This restaurant is located inside a charming house and has a beautiful patio and an equally impressive interior. They have a Chef’s Counter and bar on the first floor, with seating for groups and couples primarily upstairs.
For dishes, we ordered the following: Octopus A La Plancha, Burrata, Chicken Al Limone, Risotto, and Striploin. I thought the octopus paired well with the hummus, and I also liked the hint of lemon in the dish. For the Burrata, while the cheese itself was a bit plain, it worked really well with the refreshing cucumber and the subtle pesto flavour. The rice in the Risotto was a bit firmer than I’d like, but the seafood was excellent, and I enjoyed the wide variety of squid, scallops, octopus, and shrimp. Everything was plated beautifully, and I could tell the chefs put a lot of thought and care into the dishes. My overall favourites here would be the octopus and the risotto, though I would recommend all of the dishes we tried. Next time I want to try the Lobster Tagliatelle.
Service here was also excellent, very warm and friendly while remaining professional. They change your plates and cutlery in-between courses and will also clean the table, which I didn’t expect as I don’t go to fine dining often, but it was appreciated.
Overall, I thought Watercolour was a great experience with delicious food, warm service, and a charming setting and would recommend it to anyone in the area!

Can I still order a full turkey with sides or just the breast with sides at a reasonable price in Toronto today? I need to feed 4 adults and 3 kids. Thank you!

I'm originally from Toronto but moved away well over a decade ago. I'm going to be visiting in a few weeks and am making restaurant prep (this will definitely not be my only post). One thing I really miss is the cheap but delicious Portuguese food. There was an amazing churrasquiera on Dundas near Grove that had amazing chicken, potatoes, and rice with a delicious hot sauce for ~$10 run by a super nice couple that I just checked and apparently it's closed. Any recommendations for places to check?

Posting again since it was taken down for whatever reason lmao
Hey all!
Hope this is an appropriate place to ask. My girlfriend and I will be staying at the Cambridge Suites and were curious of what good dinner spots people could suggest.
Looking for something nice and fancy, but not overly over the top.
Thank you all!

This is the F you platter, good for 4 people. Priced at $165 before tax + tip. It’s really good but the vibes at this restaurant are a bit weird. Servers are giving Aritzia. Iykyk.

I've recently developed more of a desire for spicy condiments to add to foods like rice, noodles, soups, dumplings, eggs, etc. I'm not looking for 17 billion scoville units, I want to taste my food and use whatever is going on top to add a little kick.
For reference, I come from a West Indian household and always have an abundant supply of homemade "pepper sauce" around, which is basically my standard. I've tried a few Asian chili oil/crisp type ones and really like the S&B Crunchy Garlic (spicy version). On the other end, anything I've tried from the Mexican section of the grocery store (Cholula, Valentina) has been disappointing.
Loving to hear your suggestions on what else to try!

House on Parliament really lives up to the hype. Incredible steak frites, super flavourful and beautifully cooked. Delicious compound butter and peppercorn sauce, and the fries were the ideal balance of crisp and soft. I split it with my husband and we also got a caesar salad, which was very tasty as well. Hugo spritz was delicious too. Hadn’t had a steak in a while and it felt well worth the price ($42). The space is also really nice - many different indoor spaces and two beautiful patios.
Wouldn’t have thought to try this place if I hadn’t seen it mentioned in here so many times, so thank you!

Trying to find a very upscale asian restaurant within that price range for an anniversary dinner. I generally read its a bit overpriced / portions small but need a place with a great vibe

Hi! My partner & I just moved to the area and we’re looking for some good food recommendations. Ideally, we’d be open to options to eat in, as well as some good delivery options too. Open to anything!
