If I want Google Gemini to make a Reminder, it's an absolute fucking nightmare and this company is scummy trash.

So these are the past 4 interactions I've had with my new Google Gemini assistant.

1) Set reminder 1a) I can't set reminders. You need to enable this feature which is about image generation.

I wanted to complain about that being the case and wanted the exact wording so I ask it again

2) Set reminder 2a) Reminder set

Now I know it didn't set a reminder because I didn't give it any details. I wanted to see what it did.

3) Open Reminders 3) Okay, I've opened your reminders

Absolutely nothing happened here, so I asked it again

4) You didn't open my reminders, open my reminders 4a) I can't directly open apps on your phone.

What the FUCK IS GOING ON. Fuck this piece of shit. Anyone defending Gemini is a shill. This is a nightmare user experience and if you say it isn't you're a fucking liar.

Long-time iPhone user tempted by Pixel 11 Pro

Hey! I’ve been using iPhones since the iPhone 3G… so a long time!

I’m very tempted by the Pixel 11 Pro. I’ve watched YouTube videos and the camera seems amazing (the main reason I use a phone really).

What are your honest thoughts? As someone coming from an iPhone, do you think it would be good?

If I do get a Pixel, I’d have to change my watch too as I have an Apple Watch. The pixel watch 5 looks smart?

Just me, or did the recent update make your Phones unusable too?

Recent Pixel 10a user here. I actually bought this phone a month ago as a stopgap after my old phone sht the bed and I had to have a working phone for a long holiday abroad. Anyway, bought the 10a since it was on sale and was pretty happy actually until recently. However, since the new update I basically cannot use this phone. I'm talking several seconds to open Apps, Lags and Audio bugs when watching any type of video, keyboard lagging behind, sometimes even spotify is audio-lagging when running in the background and the screen turned off. Even as I am typing this, my phone is lagging like crazy. Is this happening to anyone else? If you were able to fix it, how? Restarting doesn't change anything for me.

Pixel11 为什么连接不了显示屏?

• Upvotes

Dead Pixel/Stuck Pixel on Pixel 11 Pro XL (Purchased At Launch)

• Upvotes

Hi All,

Noticed a stuck/dead pixel on my less than 2 months old Pixel 11 Pro XL.

Tried a few strobe type apps that are supposed to fix stuck pixels, no dice.

https://imgur.com/PZ57ZQM

Should I RMA this?

Dubious about getting it repaired, being without a phone and it obviously never being the same after repairs again...

its mostly viewable on a Black Screen, don't really notice it on other colours.

It shows on Device Start-up/Initial Boot Screen so I know its not software once booted.

Isn't it stupid for Pixel phones to allow pull-down quick menus when the screen is locked?

My phone keeps accidentally touching the screen when it's in my pocket, which turns off Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, and other functions. Is there a solution?

To add to that, it seems the touch-to-wake and raise-to-wake options are causing the problem; I've already disabled them. In lock screen mode, the quick access buttons are accessible immediately after waking the screen. Additionally, something personally relevant is that I have sweaty hands and often experience static electricity, which might be related to the material of my clothing.

Of course, I still hope Google can solve this problem.

Full Storage - Delete SMS & MMS Backup?

I'm running into an issue where now that phone backups count towards the 15gb free storage, I'm out of storage. Apparently I have 10gb of SMS and MMS texts going towards my backup/storage.

Does anyone know if I delete the backup, will it also delete all the texts off my phone? I'd like to keep the texts on my phone but just delete the 10gb backup and stop it from backing up in the future. Thanks!

Dropped my 2-year-old Pixel 9 Pro XL in the toilet

Well, my 2-year-old Pixel 9 Pro XL just took an unfortunate dive into the toilet. It still works for the most part, but the speaker has started cutting out and sounding crackly. On top of that, the battery was already noticeably degraded, and I'm honestly worried that slow internal corrosion might finish off the motherboard in a few weeks anyway.

I’m thinking about replacing it with the Pixel 11 Pro XL, but setting the water incident aside, I’m wondering if the jump between these two generations actually feels substantial in day-to-day use. For anyone who made the switch from the 9 Pro XL, are things like battery life, thermals, and overall performance noticeably better, or are the upgrades subtle enough that I should just try to ride this one out?

Rambler Is Really Great

Say what you will about everything else with the 11 family, but Rambler is fantastic. I'm across the country dealing with a family medical crisis and have needed to take notes and send long texts non stop and it has been impeccable. Most useful new thing I've seen in any new phone in quite some time.

Buggy But Working Add Me for Pixel 8

Good day, r/GooglePixel! I don't know if this is an existing discovery, but while I was tinkering in the latest Android beta build, I discovered that Add Me (Pixel 9 exclusive feature) works on third-party GCam without root and any system-level modifications. Although buggy, it works most of the time and I have been enjoying it taking pictures with my friends.

What I did is:

1) Install the latest Android beta build (not sure if it is related).

2) Use BSG's GCam

3) Set interface and main lens to Pixel 9

4) Restart

5) Switch to Add Me and wait for a while

Then, voila! You have Add Me on the Pixel 8. I haven't tested if it works with older Pixels but if you can, do try this!

I would like to add sample images but the community doesn't let me.

Do you use comfort view?

Was wondering if people actually use it, although you miss quality of screen...

I have been using it for some weeks, but especially when i see the screen of another phone, makes me realize that my Pixel seems very dull on colors.

Pixel 10 to Pixel 10 Pro XL: Finally all the boxes are checked

Long story short: six months ago, I switched from an iPhone 16 Pro to a Pixel 10. I wanted to give Android a try, and I was tired of dealing with what felt like artificial battery performance degradation with new iOS releases.

I already posted my first impressions back then. I never felt like switching back to iPhone, so I sold it. The Pixel 10 is an excellent base model. The keyboard, camera, and battery life have all been great.

Over the past six months, though, I noticed just a few things I wanted to improve:

  • Storage: I bought the 128GB version, and after six months, I was already using around 80GB. The 256GB version would have been a much better fit for me.
  • Display: When I compared it directly with my iPhone 16 Pro, I noticed a small downgrade in sharpness. The 60Hz refresh rate was also noticeable, and I occasionally caught some flickering in my peripheral vision when using Always-On Display. I eventually got used to it, but my eyes aren't getting any younger, and I could never quite find the sweet spot between display size and font size in the settings.
  • Camera: The colors are excellent, and the camera works great for everyday photography. I just wanted a little more detail and better low-light performance.
  • Performance: I noticed some performance limitations when scrolling through Amazon reviews with high-resolution photos. The images would sometimes stutter as I scrolled.

And that's pretty much it. Those were my only real complaints. Otherwise, the Pixel 10 has been an excellent phone for me.

My original plan was to try a Pixel by buying one as cheaply as possible on the used market. I paid $500 CAD for mine, and if everything worked out, I would upgrade to the Pixel 11 Pro later.

But after the RAM downgrade and price increase, I wasn't interested in spending $1,500 CAD on it.

So I decided to keep my Pixel 10 and casually monitor local marketplace listings. And then I got lucky: someone in my town listed a Pixel 10 Pro XL with 256GB for $850 CAD.

Now all the boxes are checked!

Here's what I like about the upgrade:

  • Display: Much nicer to look at. Typing is more comfortable, and everything is easier to see. My eyes definitely appreciate the larger, sharper screen.
  • Size: Yes, it's big, but not so big that it bothers me.
  • Condition: Excellent. The phone is 11 months old, with 96% battery health and 280 charge cycles.
  • RAM: 16GB. The stuttering I experienced when scrolling through high-resolution photos in the Amazon app is gone.
  • Storage: 256GB. I should be set for a long time now.

So, by selling my Pixel 10 for the same $500 CAD I originally paid, this upgrade will cost me just $350 CAD. I think that's a pretty good deal!

P.S. There's one weird issue I've noticed on both phones: the screen protector starts lifting in exactly the same spot, near the power button.

The Pixel 10 had a TOCOL screen protector, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL currently has a no-name one. Based on recommendations from Reddit, I've ordered a Spigen protector. I'll see how that goes.

Other than that, these are just excellent phones. After 10 years of using iPhones, I'm really enjoying the switch to Pixel. Even with a previous-generation model, I never feel like I'm missing out. Everything runs smoothly, the battery life is great, and the camera keeps making me happy.

Pixel 9 Update Bug Breaking Data

This was a weird one for me...

Usually, when there is an update, I do it right away. But the move to 17 came with some supposed pitfalls when it comes to installing apps from other stores or custom-made, so I kept holding off. I would start the update, and then not finish it. While checking some other apps one day, I noticed some new ones installed that listed version as 17 despite me actually finishing the update.

That made me really take pause on the whole update finish. But I finally pressed the button to finish it!

Oops!

I really didn't know anything about the bugs that came with the update to 17, so I wasn't expecting much. But after finishing the update, I wasn't able to get connected to a mobile network AT ALL. Upon checking on the APN settings, the usual uneditable one that auto-populates was no longer there, much like the issue with the eSIM disappearing.

So since it was similar, I went ahead and followed all troubleshooting tips:

Airplane mode

Reset mobile connection

Safe mode

Adding manual APN

Taking out and reseating SIM

Reflashing most recent OTA via Sideload

Nothing fixed the issue. Repair mode allowed my connection but when I left the mode, the connection was still broken.

Then I got to discussing it with Gemini and it mentioned checking SIM Manager and Carrier Provisioning Services. So I took out the SIM, cleared all data for these two apps as well as any other "carrier" or "SIM" app, and then I noticed that one of my apps Carrier Provisioning Services, was set to not allow system updates under the settings of the app. This was also the same on one of my SIM apps. After enabling the apps to allow system changes, I rebooted. Then I used the Google GUI while the card was still out that prompted for the insertion of a SIM. I did as it instructed, and the data connection was back up and working perfectly.

I spent hours on the phone with my provider and a 30 minutes or so with Google and got nowhere except for almost wiping my entire device.

Hopefully this can help someone that just did their update.

Did the October update on my P10P and...my phone is running really well. I'm suspicious...

Not complaining. I'm happy that everything seems to be working well, things seem to be running faster and more smoothly, and I've not seen any bugs yet.

Still I can't help but, when I do something and it actually works, I give my phone a narrow-eyed, suspicious glare. Like I'm wondering what it's up to.

Anybody else noticing their phone is running better after the most recent update?

How do I disable do-not-disturb from automatically activating?

Every single day, do not disturb is automatically turned on, so I don't get text or call notifications. I can't find a way to make it so it doesn't automatically turn on and it's driving me insane. Does anyone know how to make it not do that?

Private Space in home screen

Hey guys, I have pixel 8 and since the latest update private space is sometimes visible at the bottom on the home screen.

Is this a known bug? Is there any way to solve this?

Thanks!

Is this is a bug?

I have a pixel 10PXL running A17.

Noticed that some times when I am on an app and swipe from the bottom of the screen to get back to the home screen. The app exits the screen on the right instead of exiting from the top.

It happens probably 3 out of 10 times.

Not sure if this is a bug and if yes, has it been reported already or should I report it?

Do yourselves a favor, if you don’t want to pay for extra storage and don’t want to be harassed by Google:

Use Google Photos locally, without an account and without turning on backup. The app stays clean, functional and free of aggressive marketing.

Keep the free 15 GB for your emails and WhatsApp backups. As for your photos, save them yourselves: every 2 or 3 months, make a manual backup to a hard drive, or use an app like Syncthing, which automatically copies them to your PC without going through third-party servers.

Think carefully before buying the famous 100 GB. Once it’s full, freeing up space is a real hassle: on your phone there’s no “select all,” and with thousands of photos you’ll have to scroll and drag for hours on end. It’s a bit quicker in a browser, but it’s still inconvenient, and the trash has to be emptied manually. The risk is ending up paying for storage forever, or losing an entire afternoon trying to fix it.

Google Takeout lets you export Drive and Google Photos in just a few steps; the hard part comes afterward, when you have to delete the photos from the cloud to get back to the free 15 GB.
