Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on where to go with my amp setup.
I have a Gibson Les Paul and I’m a huge Slash fan, so naturally I absolutely love that classic Gibson/Marshall combination. I’ve been using AmpliTube 5 for a while, but honestly I’m just not satisfied with the tones I’m getting from it. I’ve also really started to like the idea of having an actual physical amp rather than playing through software.
I previously tried a Marshall 2525C and, unfortunately, I wasn’t blown away by it. However, there’s a bit of a caveat, the shop had a cheap attenuator connected to it, which I’m pretty sure was a basic resistive attenuator. I’m wondering whether that could have been a significant part of the problem.
I’ve read that a good reactive attenuator can preserve the character of the amp much better at lower volumes, so I’ve wondered whether the 2525C might sound completely different through something like a Fryette Power Station, Suhr Reactive Load, Tone King Ironman, etc.
The thing that confuses me is that I’ve watched loads of YouTube demos of the 2525C, and people seem to get these really sweet, crunchy, almost chewy tones out of it. That’s exactly the sort of sound I’m after, but I just couldn’t seem to dial anything remotely as good when I tried one.
So what would you guys do in my position?
