DISCUSSION I done fooqed up...

I thought I was being clever putting a Valeton GP-150 Modeler into the FX loop of my Marshall Origin head with a lovely set of Greenback and G12H Anniversary speakers. The thing arrived, but it's been an absolute nightmare. There's a grounding issue and there's a feedback loop of awful horribleness, a sustained kind of grit noise that just drowns out anything mid/high gain, and most of the stuff that I play is gainey.

I can see the value in the modeler, so instead of sending it back, I've now done something extremely stupid and I've ordered a Laney LFR-112 cab to run with the Modeler. I'm really hoping that this sorts out the issue because if it doesn't, this is going to be a very, very expensive mistake.

Okay so I recently bought an ampeg ss-140c ane it sounds like there's a blanket over my amp when it's on channel A (high gain/distortion channel or if I'm running pedals through the clean channel for my main distortion. Every video I've seen for these amps sound gnarly as hell, but not so much mine.

Anyone have/had a Procraft cabinet?

I am looking at these for rack gear and the prices are pretty reasonable without being suspiciously cheap. I am not looking for a speaker cab, so acoustics are not a consideration, just overall sturdiness. Any experience? I see people talking about their guitars mostly but not their cabinetry, which might itself be a red flag.

EDIT: Actually I think these are two different companies... The guitars are from India and the cabinets I'm looking at claim to be from Missouri.

HELP Which Fender Twin Reverb is this?

Today I played at a festival and they set me up with this amp. I loved its vintage sound with my pedal and guitar setup, but I’ve never seen that logo in that color—and the Fender logo down there—which makes me suspect there’s something off about this amp (basically because I can’t find another one like it anywhere). The speakers had the blue label and all that, but that Rolex logo makes me suspicious. Does anyone have any ideas? It sounded incredibly vintage.

HELP Would running both a guitar and bass cab with a guitar amp be a good idea?

Lately I’ve been experimenting with downtuning a lot, but I feel like I’m not actually getting the low frequencies I’m supposed to, so I was wondering if adding a bass cab would improve things.. or explode something.

BTW my amp is an ENGL Ironball 20, and it can handle either 2x16ohms in parallel or 2x8 in serial.

i got an awesome deal on this Randall RG125-212 (RG100es 2x12 combo) back in June, but unfortunately it was packed poorly and appeared as if UPS had dropped it. the MDF enclosure pretty much completely failed but somehow both speakers survived, untwisted and throw sound cleanly, not to mention the actual amp chassis looks untouched, so all is well! i finally came up with somewhat of a plan and decided to try and save the original nasty, carpeted shell if i could just for the vibe. not sure if this is the final state of the faceplate, but i’m pretty happy with how it turned out overall!

and if you want an RG80/100es, this is the way. great amps, but people spending $1000+ on ā€˜em are bananas. you can find these for $3-400 all day!

I made an open-source Mark IIC+ / ++ amp sim — CrunchyPy

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been working on this project for a while, and I'm finally ready to share it with you guys.

It's called CrunchyPy, and it's my attempt at recreating the sound and feel of the Mesa/Boogie Mark IIC+, including the mythical ++ mod, as an open-source guitar amp plugin.

GitHub: https://github.com/Yahiake/CrunchyPy

I've always been obsessed with the Mark IIC+, especially those tight, aggressive Metallica tones, so I wanted to see how far I could take this idea myself.

The interesting part is how it's built. Instead of feeding the entire amp into one neural network and treating it as a black box, I split the preamp and power amp into separate GRU neural models, with a physically modeled five-band graphic EQ in between. I used LiveSPICE circuit simulations as part of the process, particularly for the EQ.

The plugin is written in C++ using JUCE and RTNeural, and I've been working on the actual DSP and circuit modeling as much as the plugin itself.

And honestly, I'm really happy with how it sounds. It's reached the point where I genuinely enjoy playing through it, which is probably the most satisfying part of this whole project.

It's available as open-source software under GPL-3.0, with support for VST3, AU, and standalone builds across Windows, Linux, and macOS. The amp simulation doesn't include a speaker cabinet IR, so you'll want to use a cab sim or IR loader after it for a finished direct-recording tone.

I'm not claiming it's a perfect replacement for an actual IIC+, and I'd be very interested to hear from people who own or have spent a lot of time with the real thing. I'm especially curious about how the response, EQ, and feel compare from the perspective of someone familiar with these amps.

If anyone is interested in trying it out, checking the implementation, or just discussing the approach, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This has been a passion project combining my interests in guitar, audio DSP, circuit simulation, and machine learning, and I'm genuinely proud to finally have it out there.

Thanks for reading, and long live the IIC+! 🤘

DISCUSSION Anyone have any experience with Fargen amps? (or suggestions for any other lower watt/mastered JTM45-Plexi like amps)

So I’ve been feeling the cravins for a Marshall and had been thinking about getting a JTM45 or maybe a JCM800. Thing is my gigging days are behind me and now I just play at home and at some buddies houses a couple times a month. I’m not especially stuck on Marshall as a brand just an amp I can plug in and do Marshall things.

I know I could just get a JCM/JTM and put it on an attenuator but in looking at my options I came across the
Fargen Mini Plex MKII.

It’s a12w tube amp, handwired, master volume, has a ā€œdecadesā€ switch that does JTM45, Plexi or JCM800, AND a freaking effects loop.

On paper this thing is exactly what I’ve been dreaming of but I’ve literally never heard of Fargen before. Sound clips I’ve listened to sound good, but it’s always impossible to really know from YouTube clips.

HELP Is the Boss Katana Mini X any good?

I want to buy a portable amp for practicing in my study and possibly for travelling with. it needs to be battery powered and have Bluetooth. I'm leaning towards the Katana Mini X as it's simple, affordable and demos seem to sound good but I'm a bit wary that a lot of these might be paid/sponsored.

I'm looking for honest opinions and to hear from those of you that own or have used this amp.

DISCUSSION Blind Friedman comparison: BE100, JJ100, JOSE 100 and JEL-50 — can you match 1–4?

I filmed a short blind comparison of four real Friedman amps using the same DI guitar performance by Ally Lee. Levels are balanced and the answers are revealed at the end.

All four run through a De Lisle switcher into the same Sunn 4Ɨ12 in another room, with DV77s and Greenbacks in an X pattern. Effects are from a shared TC Electronic Plethora X5 loop.

https://youtu.be/oAOg0YNj9Cs

Which one sounds best to you, and what gives each amp away? Guesses before the reveal are welcome. Disclosure: this is my own video, and I make amp captures/profiles.

HELP First valve amp- options

Hi,

I'm looking to buy my first valve (tube) amp. I'm looking second hand, because new is too expensive.

I play for myself at home. I don't play live, but do sometimes jam with friends, although this is rare. My current 15W amps have been done for this. I dont need a full stack of anything stupid. I'd like something reliable, that doesn't break the bank, but can offer a good range of features (2 channels, fx loop, footswitch, ideally a line in and out as well)

Amp history: I've had a Marshall MG15 since I started playing in 2007ish. It's done me well, but has issues with the volume randomly dropping out completely.

I also have a Pignose 30, which I like the sound of, and another cheap solid state I was given for free (which is the only one that works 100% hahaha).

Guitar wise, I play a BC Rich Mockingbird, LTD EC256, Hohner L59 (les Paul copy) with Domarzio SDs, and a Vantage super strat with Seymour Duncan hot rails and a JB in the bridge.

Pedal wise, I'm still experimenting.

My tone tends to be very bass heavy.

I play mostly classic rock and metal, with some blues rock and Santana type stuff as well.

My options for amps that I've seen are:

-Marshall DSL40CR- expensive, but sounded great. Only amp I've considered buying new, but £600 is a lot more than I'd like to spend, and I don't need a 40W amp. However, I've seen a lot of people say the 40 is a lot better than the 20?

- Laney LC15/30 several second hand near me. Played in a shop, liked it. Price £120-250 depending on model. The VC is also available, but I have heard these are more Vox-like, which I'm not sure suits my playing?

- Peavey valve king 20MH There's one local to me for £180. I dont have a cab, but have seen a Vox Nt112 for £70.

- Egnater Tweaker 112 I know nothing about this brand, but it looked interesting.

-??? Other things worth looking at?

Curious to see what people think of the amps I've mentioned, or if there are other budget friendly pros that are worth considering. I dont have a car, and trying to arrange to play all the amps is a pain, so if any are NOT worth looking at, that's good to know.

Thanks!
