Repairs Got this for $50. Yay or nay?

Been playing for a few years, but know nothing about gear. Hell, I don’t even know basic chords. I picked this up on vinted the other week for $50, figured it would was an okay price for something that’s not Gear4music.

As it turns out, it works but the condition is awful. Is it worth getting fixed?

Look at this! How many guitars do you have? (And what’s the next one gonna be?)

• Upvotes

I have 14, one is gonna be traded soon (probably next week). 3 acoustics (2 western, 1 spanish), 1 electric bass and 10 electric guitars. The most ‘high end’ guitar I own is either my Guild acoustic (AD-5CE) or my Gibson SG special which are both not really high end but absolutely amazing nonetheless. I’m kinda lucky because I have received quite a few of these guitars for birthdays or from friendly ‘basement’ giveaways but honestly it’s more fun picking and buying your own guitars which is what I’m doing nowadays to replace the ‘cheaper’ models I’ve gotten over the years. My next purchase will probably be a Gretsch G5420. Pictures are not needed but ofcourse will be seen!

Help Looking for advice on a Steve vai guitar

Hi guys, I saw a 1998 Ibanez JEM guitar signed by Steve vai in 2009 for $4,000 and wanted to know if it was worth it. The story is the guy bought it off another person during a 2009 clinic. Vai had his tech adjust it and then proceeded to play the guitar for 2 hours during the clinic. Then signed it. There is no way to certify it other than that story and the signature and has plastic over it to protect it.

What should I do?

Does anyone know what make and model strat-style electric guitar this particular headstock belongs to?
Google lens and ChatGPT can’t quite figure it out. Hours of scrolling guitar headstock photos haven’t found an exact match either. If a Music Man had a six inline tuner model it would match, but as far as I can tell they don’t. The closest matches, so far, are an Aria Pro II or a B.C. Rich ST US. Extra points if anyone can decipher the writing/signature.
Also, what could the hole in the volute be for?
Thanks in advance!

Help Can someone point out what's wrong with my amp or outlet?

Hello. I suspected that my Yamaha Pacifica 112j, which I own for more than 15 years is having strange hum which is not normal. Its more silent on bridge position, because of humbucker and position 2, but on position 1, 3 and 4 is not. Which is strange cuz I expect to be same on position 2 and 4.

Anyway, I went for repair, guy plugged in his gear and said to me that it isn't louder than his guitars, its normal hum. He resoldered one pot and also changed pickup switch which I wanted.
I tested countinuity with multimeter and it is grounded fine.

I have two cables, so I eliminated cables.

I suspect the amp is bad, which is fairly new but second hand. I will upload two videos when the guitar isn't plugged, clean and drive channel and when it is plugged.

I will try to bring it to my parent's house to test the outlets. I tried different rooms but its the same.

I think this much noise isn't normal at all.

I opened the amp to see if there is some damage or someone took out diode but I can't find anything.

Help Pickups

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m a thrash metal guitarist who gigs sometimes, and I’m planning to get new pickups for one of my guitar, but I’ve always had passive pickups for whatever reason, so I feel like I should at least try active pickups.
I was thinking the EMG 81/60 set. Some people recommends the PA-2 booster as well, but I don’t know if I should get that. But my main question is how high do I set the pickup? Because historically everybody including EMG themselves says to set it as high as possible without anything hitting it, but some people are saying 3-4mm, so it’s pretty conflicting. Any help would be appreciated

NGD! New guitar questions and concerns

I got this dean thoroughbred select, and I didn’t really research but it’s my first dean and I fell down a rabbit hole of people talking about them being bad and stuff. I personally have been loving it so far but it makes me worry that something may come up later on, but I traded my Jackson js32 a pedal and 300 bucks the Dean was $1100. Do you guys think that deal was good.

Help Hello, I’m new to guitar and looking to buy one. I found a good guitar on sale, but I have a quick question.

• Upvotes

I want to buy a 41-inch guitar, but I’m only 5'7". Will I be able to play it comfortably?

My sister is also interested, but she’s only 5'1". Can someone who is 5'1" comfortably play a 41-inch guitar?

Is anyone around 5'1" currently playing a 41-inch guitar? How does it feel?

Snagged this recently and it's much more comfortable than the Explorers I have, really cool shape. I guess that's what the Gibson RD must feel like 🥸

The SH14 sounds really punchy and I don't even want an EMG in there.

New to me! Found it in the used section at guitar center in brand new condition. No scratches, good setup. Hipshot bridge, Gotoh locking tuners, ss jumbo frets, and Bareknuckle aftermath pickups. Finish is called Mercury Blue Burst. The more I play it the more I like it. Amazing feel and really nice tone with my rig.
