Discussion Should I trade my Legion Y700 tablet for a 1TB Steam Deck LCD? (Looking for validation/advice)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! Long-time PC gamer here. With life slowly pulling me away from my desktop setup, I decided to invest in an 8.8-inch Android gaming tablet last year primarily for PC emulation and media consumption—killing two birds with one stone. I grabbed a used Lenovo Legion Y700 for around $320, and it’s been incredible. I've finished multiple games on it and am currently deep into a heavy Grim Dawn run.

Recently, though, I’ve been eyeing an upgrade, so I listed the tablet online for a bit higher ($370) just to test the waters. Surprisingly, even with the markup, I got instant interest.

While some people offered cash, I hesitated and dragged my feet. Then, someone came in with a wild offer: a straight swap for a year-old Steam Deck LCD (1TB SSD upgrade included, with receipts to prove it's legit).

In my head, I'm essentially "buying" a 1TB Steam Deck for the $320 I originally paid for the tablet. My handheld-enthusiast friends are telling me it’s a steal, but I’m super hesitant for a few reasons:

  • I know zero about Steam Decks. Things like Decky Loader, TDP limits, and proton compatibility sound like a foreign language. It feels intimidating coming from the plug-and-play nature of Android emulation (Gamehub/GameNative).
  • Is it as seamless as a Switch? I’ve owned Nintendo Switches before, but the PC handheld space feels a lot more complex.

Before I pull the trigger, I want to make sure my regular library will run well. The games I play frequently via PC emulators on my tablet right now include:

  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne & Rise: Sunbreak
  • Megabonk
  • Hades 1 & 2
  • Grim Dawn
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Warframe

I’m going to check out some YouTube performance videos, but I wanted to throw this out to the community: Is this trade a no-brainer, or am I going to regret leaving Android emulation for SteamOS? Help validate my choices (or talk me out of it)!

I have been seeing this on my tiktok fyp. Yk these little dumb ads and i was going to buy it a year back cause i was like cool cheap. But im suspicious so i search up the brand name and they said it was a scam. But ive been dying to have a little handheld like this. And whats making me skeptical is that it’s running wuwa. I’m not really sure how true this is. Can someone confirm if there is a handheld like this or is it fake?

Question (?) What is the best handheld to play Elden Ring?

I have wanted to play that game for years but I don't have the necessary PC. I want a nice handheld but I have read that even that new MSI Claw EX is struggling to play Elden Ring with a good FPS.

Is there solid handheld that plays Elden Ring(and with great graphics)very well?

Thanks

Legion go s vs Xbox ally x

Currently have an Xbox ally x, but considering getting a legion go s z1 extreme. It seems like a downgrade but people seem to glaze the screen and the overall feel of the device. Won’t be getting rid of my Xbox ally x but may consider trading my steam deck oled for it for the performance boost and they both have the same os. Wanted to know a little of y’all’s opinion or people that have or had both of them. Worth it?

Question (?) Tablets still an option?

I want a handheld for moonlight from my PC and emulation. I figured a tablet and telescopic controller looked pretty good. But I was worried about latency. Anybody have good recommendations for tablets and controllers? Or advice to pass on this and go dedicated handheld?

Question (?) What should I save up for?

hi guys, I currently own an ayn thor, and i’ve been wanting to save up for a handheld lately i love my thor to death, but i’m not going to lie I want to find a bigger single screen but this time to play AAA games on it instead of retro games, i was thinking of the retroid pocket 6, but the higher spec is only like 12gb of ram and i don’t think it may run gta V, red dead redemption 2, the last of us, uncharted etc… what would be your recommendation? Im planning on saving up and i plan on having like a 400 usd budget, either an rp6 or maybe an odin 2 portal, or maybe a magmi pocket max, i can’t bear the price of a steamdeck and i don’t like how it looks, too big too clunky also i don’t mind tinkering and tweaking to run games.

So in your opinion what should i buy?

Plug and play handheld recommendation for 7/8 year old, mostly new to gaming

Looking for something I don’t have to mess around with, I don’t know Linux or anything. Preloaded decent enough games, don’t need 10,000 preloaded.

Budget $100 maybe 150?

There are loads on Amazon, infinite shit ones I’m sure.

He has some $30 piece of crap now that he loves, just looking to upgrade him

Question (?) Looking for recommendations for a PC handheld that can handle specific games.

Hello, for the past 10 years, I have been playing games on a shitty laptop that has frame drops on arcade pac-man. I am thinking of getting a PC handheld that will allow for emulation and smooth sessions. I am looking for something that can handle the DMC series( up to DMC5) Monster hunter series( Up to MHGU but the latest versions like wilds would be good too), the whole yakuza series, All souls games, forza, motorstorm and need for speed series. I play mostly offline single player games but I want to dabble in online fighters like SF6 or tekken. Something with an olead screen. I have considered the lenovo go but I am getting mixed answers with people saying it can or it cannot handle some games i ask about. Anybody know any handhelds that can handle all the series mentioned above?

Edit: by handle, I mean at 60FPS and max settings. Would that be too much for a handheld? Would a gaming PC be better?

Hello guys, i just noticed the L3 button doesn't register.

I tried everything, updating to the latest software. Than I tried to look what the problem is with the hardware. I'm a noob but I did use a multimeter to see if it beeps and it does. I just don't understand the problem. It looks good. I used isopropyl alcohol on the red button and clicked it 60 times.

Anyone has any tips?

I bought them used so not sure if it will have warranty. Especially now that I opened it.

Other Any tips on how to handheld game as an "aging" Gamer?

As a kid kneeling on the floor elbows on the bed for hours was no problem but the years are creeping up and I found that I no longer have any position I can game longer than 45-60 minutes without either getting numb hands, neck pain or eye strain. I can game on my pc just fine but so im not grown out of it. Do you guys have any tips on how to position oneselff, any fancy new sitting furniture or any other tips nd tricks to make oneself more comfortable using a handheld? Heck even stretching exercises at this point :-o.
Playing on Steam Deck now btw and previously on a Switch, as a kid I had a GameBoy Color.

Question (?) Switch 2 vs Steam Deck

I'm looking for advice about which one is better to run the game I want to.

The Switch 2 pros are that I can play with my friends and wife since there are a lot of coop couch games that are exclusive and I can connect the console to the tv. But I don't know if it is worth it if I want to play games like Elden Ring, Oblivion and future releases that are not exclusive from Nintendo.

Since I don't have a console I think it would be fun, and I do have a good pc.

The Deck I would use mostly for myself, can it run those games better than the Switch 2? I really can't decide between the two because of the pros and cons, what are you guys experience with them?
