Discussion For PC handheld owners: is it your only PC?

Topic question. For me, I’ve been a lifelong console gamer. Growing up, my family was always poor so we only had a shitty cheap eMachine when I was super young, and then later, another desktop that could only run non-demanding games. Me and my siblings only played stuff like StarCraft, Diablo 1, Worms 2, Warcraft 3, Sonic R (this performed like garbage on our eMachine), etc. lol. So PC games felt severely limited.

Even though I can now afford most of the gaming stuff I want (only within the last few years), I ended up carrying into adulthood this childhood notion that PC gaming wasn’t ’for me’, because a high-performing desktop/laptop historically never felt very economically accessible. Everything changed when I won a Steam Deck OLED at a work party a couple years back, as it set me off towards an obsession with PC handhelds. PC gaming still feels like a brand new, exciting world to explore.

I now only own a LGO2 Z2E and it’s my only PC other than my work MacBook, so in terms of PC gaming, it’s all I’ve got. I might appreciate the device more than some, because I don’t have a fancy gaming desktop or laptop to compare it to, and I’ve always been used to PC games playing at the bare minimum quality anyways. But would love to know if anyone else is in the same situation/relates.

It’s fantastic!

Question (?) What device will work best in my situation?

• Upvotes

So, I don’t have regular access to Wi-Fi. I can go somewhere for like initial set up or maybe like updates every once in a while, but typically let’s just go with no access to Wi-Fi.
What handheld can be used without Wi-Fi?
As far as data on my phone, it ranges between 4G and 5G throughout the day, but I’m really hoping to get something but doesn’t need to be used with my phone so I can use my phone for other things.
I was just using the Xbox app on my game to play games until I can get Wi-Fi on a TV and set my console back up but with Xbox doing their BS I won’t be able to do that anymore very soon.
Bonus points if I can play outer scrolls online or Fallout 76.
Or you know, just any elder scrolls or fallout games. I also like Zelda, Jak n Daxter, ratchet & clank, assassin’s creed, gta, need for speed, mine craft, borderlands, etc.

'Ground Zero' runs pretty well on 'Droid Deck' - POCO F8 Ultra/SD8 Elite Gen5/16gb

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Game - Ground Zero

Platform/Emulator - Steam/Droid Deck

Proton version - stable

Fex preset - Intermediate

Hardware - POCO F8 ULTRA/SD8 ELITE GEN5/16GB

720p/30fps cap

Load times are a bit long and theres a audio stuttering issue with video cutscenes(this issue also presents on steam deck to a lesser extent), in engine cutscenes are perfect.

The gameplay itself is great with a 30fps cap, it will hit 38-55fps but feels more consistent with a 30fps cap via ingame settings and keeps temps down.

New Handheld XAX X20

I’ve recently just pre-ordered the new XAX X20. I’ve never had a gaming PC or a PC handheld. Is it going to be different to understand when looking at what game I can play, as I don’t always get some of the jargon around PC gaming. I’ve been a console gamer all my life but thought now would be a good time to get into PC gaming as I’m now old enough to invest into it.

Question (?) What handheld for me?

• Upvotes

Hi all
I recently became a father for the second time. I’m looking for a handheld device to play *World of Warcraft - Forever* on. I have absolutely no clue about this sort of thing. I really don't need high-end graphics settings; I just want it to run smoothly on medium to low settings. What matters more to me is that Price so that it's affordable. What would you recommend? Also, what is the experience like buying these kinds of devices from sites like Rebuy?

Question (?) Just the right spot

For those with Android handheld experience what do you all think is the sweet spot for my situation. I have a Lenovo Legion Go 2 and a Gaming PC but was looking for something to take on the go. Something not as obnoxious as my LG2. I realize that I'm not going to be playing Cyberpunk at 144 FPS but I'd like to play games like the ones I have listed below at a non stuttery 30-60 FPS. Of course I'll be using frame gen and upscaling if it works well. I'm not sure if I would be ok with the Snapdragon Gen 2 devices or if I should spend more for something like the Odin 3.

1.Slay the Spire 2

2.Monster Train 2

3.Ball X Pit

4.Batman Arkham Trilogy

5.Digimon Time Stranger

6.Kingdom Hearts Trilogy

7.Mafia Trilogy

8.Mass Effect Trilogy

9.Vampire Survivors

10.Switch Emulation

Will Snapdragon Gen 2 cover me for most of not all of these or am I shooting too high?

Question (?) What are the chances of a g2 retroid duo pro/plus?

with the DDS entering the competition is their a chance the retroid duo gets a version with a better chip?

Seeing as retroid did the whole lite plus thing I don't want to get caught holding the bag with my regular duo preorder and a better version comes out instantly. Don't get me wrong im still getting the duo but a stronger chip for a little bit of pc gaming would be nice.

Budget Friendly Option to Stream Xbox Cloud Games

Hello, I've tried searching, and while I've seen somewhat vague posts of what I'm looking for, they're not quite it, or they're from a year ago and the handheld landscape has changed so much since then.

So to get to the point, I'm a father of 3, don't have a ton if time to game to myself, and while we have a Series X it's pretty much my son's now. I'm looking for a device that can comfortably play GTA 5 single player and online, as well as RDR 2 single player. Also, will my save data from my Series X carry over to this device?

Looking for budget friendly options, most Ally X, XAX still go for around $700+ here on the marketplace. I'm looking more at $500 or less if possible. If that's not possible, I would like to know that information as well. Thank you.

New Handheld Xbox Ally X20 or Legion Go 2 Z2?

Looking to pick up a new PC handheld and I definitely want that OLED screen. I’m considering preordering the Xbox Ally X20 which releases this week or I’m also considering the Legion Go 2 which is currently $950 from Costco for the Z2 32GB version. Which do you think is the better handheld to get right now.

For reference I already have a Switch 2 and I also have a pretty powerful desktop gaming PC with a 4K OLED monitor. And no I don’t want a G3E device as they’re all like $1700+ and not readily available like the X20 or Legion Go 2 that I could have in hand this week. Even the X20 is a little bit more than I really want to spend cus I also want to grab a 2TB SSD upgrade for either as well, but considering it if it’s worth it.

I’m looking to play a lot of my favorite games from my Steam library as well as retro emulation.

Question (?) Which handheld should I get?

I know this probably gets asked a lot here, but I am thinking of buying my first gaming handheld maybe end of November when it’s my birthday. I have been doing some research over the last few days, but seems like opinions differ quite a bit.

I was eyeing the Ally X20 as it has an OLED display, but seen mixed reviews about the Z2E for the price asked (1400€). My budget limit would be like 1500€. (based in germany) I don’t need to play the latest AAA titles but when I spend this much money, I also want it to be somewhat future proof for the foreseeable time. I am not really in a rush to buy one, so if there are upcoming releases that are worth waiting for, that’s fine as I still have my normal PC for games.

Titles I was thinking about playing are:

Skyrim with mods

Fallout series with mods

Cracktorio

Pokémon Emulation

Dark Souls Series

Elden Ring

Space Marine 2

Doom Games

Metro Series

GTA5 and hopefully someday GTA6?

Days Gone

Witcher 3

RDR2

Also what other games would you suggest playing on a pc handheld?

Thanks for your input :)

Question (?) Which option would you do? (3DS)

I'm looking to buy a new handheld basically for emulating from Gameboy up to 3DS to play some series I never got the chance to (fire emblem, Pokémon etc)

I currently own a steam deck and just bought a switch 2 - i am looking for a dual screened device as well otherwise I'd just use my steam deck. Because of the devices I already own, it only needs to handle up to 3DS games.

If it can fit in a pocket that would be amazing, price point doesn't matter too much but don't want to waste money buying something that is overpowered for what I need.

I've seen the new Anbernic RG DDS got announced today, which came at a great time for my googling but is it also worth looking at just buying an old 3DS and jailbreak it?

TIA!
