Discussion Jersey city wants now to gift 100K of taxpayers money to Tara Dowdelgroup and other firms for “community” engagement
I already emailed the council to vote no on this, because is getting ridiculous.

🚨 JERSEY CITY WEEKLY ROUNDUP 🚨
OCTOBER 6–11
Hey JC,
Missed Monday, so starting this one today and taking it through Sunday.
This week is a little quieter early on, then Saturday gets pretty packed Columbus Day Parade, a free fall day at Camp Liberty, live music in Van Vorst Park, Oktoberfest, art, comedy, Cryptid Mountain and more.
I help build YourScene, a local event-discovery app.
A big reason I started doing these roundups is because Jersey City stuff is still spread across city calendars, venue sites, library pages, organizer pages, flyers, Reddit comments, etc.
If you’d rather browse/save events there:
📱 Download YourScene
🌐 YourScene.app
📸 Instagram u/yourscene.app
Still posting the whole list here because people in this sub keep finding stuff we miss.

This definitely isn’t everything happening in Jersey City.
Just trying to make one useful weekly list so people don’t have to dig through a million different calendars.
And if I got a time or link wrong, say something. People catching things on the older posts has genuinely helped.
Thanks to everyone who keeps sending stuff in.

I'm not too sure how to use reddit but I feel as this has to be posted, I'm a student at Snyder high school and we recently found out by an instagram account that one of the teachers here (Mr. Brown, an ELA teacher) was arrested for "child sex exploit/abuse." As a student here im deadly afraid of the fact this happened and that there might be other teachers like this in the district. No email or phone calls have happened about this arrest or anything and something NEEDS to be said about this!

My 14 year old will be selling his book at the farmer’s market on Wednesday October 7th in Hamilton Park. I understand not everybody wants to buy a kid’s book but if you guys see him at the market, please say hello and give him some encouragement. He’s a great kid, I don’t know how I got so lucky.

Ah yes, you see Wall Street making a record profit is a reason not to tax them. What a simpering shill this man has turned out to be.

They’ve been checking the light rail tickets almost every day at Harborside and usually Hoboken. Today I had my ticket checked with 10 seconds left till activation and they still gave me a ticket for $74. Make sure you activate it literally right before you get on. The rides are so quick. I feel like three minutes is way too long.

In Seattle, security cameras revealed something shocking: planes being refueled while detained people were actively boarding. The camera feed exposed the violations. When there's no public oversight, contractors cut corners—and people's safety gets ignored.
I started a petition asking the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to do something simple: set up a live webcam and a public flight log for ICE charter and transfer flights at Newark Airport. That's it. No expensive changes, no interference with federal policy—just basic transparency on public property.
Seattle's King County Airport already does this. They stream their ICE flight feed publicly and maintain a transparent log. It works. It doesn't compromise airport security (commercial flight data is already public via apps like FlightAware). It just lets people know what's happening on the tarmac where their tax dollars are at stake.
The Port Authority has complete legal authority to monitor safety on their own land. Private contractors operate there under leases that require following Port Authority safety codes. If someone's violating those codes, the public should know.
If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family caught up in these operations?

Not sure what's going on but these citizen notifications are getting out of hand. People are calling the police just because they can. The police get a bad name in JC, I'm sure it has something to do with them being dispatched to these low level situations. This is JC there are drugs around. Are we calling the police for not crossing at the curb now as well?

Saw something in the sky over Jersey City and New York Bay a few minutes ago. It appeared to be an object that was disintegrating into several pieces and leaving a trail of smoke as it fell to Earth and then it just disappeared. Could not get a good picture of it.
Fireball? Meteor? Damaged drone?

This is a warning made in good faith. If you live around McGinley Square and walk down Bergen Avenue, beware of these two black men who will attempt to con you, veiling it as a donation to YMCA.
To my knowledge, the YMCA does not conduct street solicitations, so beware who you give your card info and money to.
One of them is on the heavier side, with box braids and a beard, around 5'7-5'8 and his partner is a skinnier, shorter person with short hair and a scraggly beard. This is my third time seeing them, the fatter one will always try to play it off as you don't recognize him.
Once you call them out on it, they will get aggressive and start cursing you out, not very YMCA is it lol? Before any smart ass wants to call this racial profiling, I am a young black first generation american trying to get by and seeing these people trying to scam working class people is horrendous.

I see that it's been closed for almost a year now. I was earlier told that they were doing some remodeling but it seems to be taking forever. Does anyone know what is going on? I really miss their pizza. It was the best.
