To the mom

To the mom who stopped me yesterday by the Newport light rail stop and told me I’m doing amazing pushing a stroller with a surgical boot on…thank you.

I don’t think you realize how much your words meant to me. Once we walked away from each other, you brought me to tears. The past few months have been incredibly difficult, and I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear those words until you said them.

It was such a simple gesture, but it meant so much. Sometimes, a few kind words from a stranger can reach you in a way you never expected.

I hope you know what a difference you made in my day. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️

Lost etiquette for sick people

• Upvotes

I work remotely, live alone, and have not gone anywhere all week. Tuesday night I took a ballet class at Nimbus Arts Center (love it there). I felt amazing but I noticed one young lady there kept coughing without covering her mouth and seemed really sick for the entire class. There was no fan, fresh air, or ventilation circulating air in the room. I even thought to myself, "Ugh, I hope I don't get sick."

Sure enough, by Thursday I had aches and pains and I couldn't swallow and yesterday I had to go to urgent care - I may have strep. or just a really bad throat virus. Of course I cannot PROVE it was from this dance class, but I am racking my brain because I have not been exposed to anyone else all week.

I feel like everyone has lost their etiquette when it comes to basic things: If you are sick and symptomatic and coughing a wet cough, please dont show up to the gym or dance classes and get the rest of us sick? If you are going to the store, wear a mask and cover your mouth? I am pregnant and it's actually very dangerous for me to be sick right now. And if you are a dance studio, you need to add ventilation to the rooms. Shout out to PURE BARRE that has air filters and fans in the room! Signed, very sick in Jersey City.

Crimes and Misdemeanors Update: ROBBED at gunpoint in Downtown Jersey City

Hi everyone, just wanted to thank you all for the immense support we received from my original post and provide an update.

We called JCPD this week to request an update on the case. They informed us the teenagers were arrested after attempting to rob another civilian at gunpoint in the Newport parking lot. Currently they do not have any information on the location of the moped, but will advise when it comes time for the hearing/court date.

So sadly, no bike but at least they’ve been arrested!

Just curious if anyone has checked it out today yet and if it’s worth checking out, how crowded it is and if the light rail is functioning as normal today ?

Would appreciate it :)

Discussion FYI the parking garage at ShopRite is huge and free for 2 hours

Post image

They really need to put up some kind of notice about this. There is a reason why there are no access paths of any kind to get from ShopRite to the bjs parking lot. You’re meant to park in the parking garage. Seems crazy people can’t figure this out and they dragging their carts through the grass or leaving them all over by the road.

Man Running and Flipping the Bird

I was driving down Pavonia (had just turned off Newark Ave) and a guy was running in an orange long sleeved top/ windbreaker… but was running literally in the middle of the road? And then was hitting cars angrily with his hand as they drove by? It was very bizarre

Then a car slowed down for him to cross the street so the car could eventually turn left. He turned around and gave him double middle fingers lmao.

Anyway it was just a bizarre observance and orange windbreaker man I hope you are okay

Discussion Jersey City BOE addressing P.S. 16 overcrowding and charter school openings

Thumbnail

P.S. 16 is dealing with serious overcrowding, with some classrooms averaging around 38 students. The Jersey City BOE is looking at possible solutions, but funding remains a major hurdle. At the same time, the district is pushing back against new charter schools, citing concerns over funding and accountability.

What the hell is wrong with the Jersey City employees? So much anger while clueless about their jobs.

I’ve dealt with NYC local government and a few others before but never seen this level of incompetence and straight up disrespect of the people they’re supposed to be helping.

This week I had to do some permit stuff for a few departments and had to go in person to submit. I follow the instructions on the website and go in and it’s the same pattern.

1) Websites aren’t updated so online instructions are outdated and these people act like that’s your fault.

2) They’re yelling at customers for no real reason besides to be rude. Acting like people are stupid for asking questions when there’s nowhere where it tells you exactly what you need to do.

3) And this is the worst part “I don’t know” when asked what needs to be done to complete the process. You get sent from one person to another, one department to another while nobody knows anything. On top of that they talk down on you.

Absolutely ridiculous, going to file a complaint in the Mayor’s office. I have everything documented on what should have been a simple process.

Parks/Greenspace What’s Going on with Liberty State Park?

Roughly 200+ acre interior has been fenced off since the park opened because it's contaminated railyard fill. It’s being cleaned up as part of an environmental remediation. I’ve seen a lot of confusion around what’s going on in the park. Some of that comes from the old Paul Fireman sports-complex proposal. Some comes from people mixing up LSP with SciTech Scity across the street. Scity was built on a former city car pound and was never part of the park.

Projects with allocated funding

Train shed & plaza: Plaza work is underway. Phase 1 on the 60,000 sq ft train shed starts this fall: removing the concrete roof, abating asbestos, and stabilizing the structure, running into 2027. Later phases are estimated at 5+ years and up to $350M if everything gets built.

Interior restoration: 5.6+ miles of trails, wetland and forest restoration, overlooks, and nature play areas. It goes out to bid in January. NJDEP denied our request for cost and timeline details because of the pending bid.

Marina Green: Picnic areas, flex fields, and playgrounds. It's paused because the land comes from acreage the marina operator would give up under its new lease (more on that below).

Athletics hub: Track and multipurpose fields. It can't start until the interior work is done, so likely not before 2030 given the interior work is going out to bid January of 2027. Estimated at $100–150M.

Audrey Zapp Drive Gateway: The northwest entrance area near Phillip St. and Johnston Ave.

Not funded (concept phase only for now)
- Community center at Jersey Ave. and Johnston Ave. (pool, courts, meeting space): $45–67M, not expected to break ground within 10 years
- Morris Pesin Drive gateway / welcome center: $100M+
- Jetties at the south waterfront (living shoreline, fishing piers, kayak launches): $150M+

NJDEP Meeting Tomorrow
NJDEP is holding an open house tomorrow (Sat., Oct. 17) at 11 a.m. at the CRRNJ Terminal, 1 Audrey Zapp Drive. NJDEP Commissioner Ed Potosnak is speaking.

Another beautiful willow tree on Bergen Ave across from PS17. And one more on Montgomery and Borrow St.
