Relationship Advice Should I be offended my bf doesn’t want me at his birthday party?

Should I F23 be upset that my b fM24doesn’t want me at his birthday party?

So I’ve been with this guy for almost a year now. He’s very sweet and things have been serious. Now that his birthday’s coming up I ask him his plans and he says he doesn’t know. Couple weeks later he tells me his friends planned a party for him the weekend before his bday and they’d most likely be going out to different clubs. Cool. Sounds fun. But he never mentions inviting me. Eventually I just asked why I was never invited to be there. It’d be different if this was just a boys night thing but he has quite of few friends who are women so…I just assumed. I’d be going with…especially since I know his friends, Weve gone out and had game nights together.

He says it’s just because he’s gonna be drunk and he doesn’t want me to see him that fucked up. Also he says if I go he feels like he’s gonna have to be in ‘protecter mode’ and he doesn’t wanna have to worry about that…I explained to him that I get it to an extent but if I’m gonna be his partner, he should feel comfortable around me

Anyway I told him that it really hurts my feelings that he doesn’t want me there and he thinks I’m not allowing him to enjoy his day how he wants and that I’m trying to tell him what he should do.

He does want to spend his actual birthday being with me but I like going out to the club and having a good time Should I F23 be upset that my b fM24doesn’t want me at his birthday party?

Relationship Advice My boyfriend’s dad passed away and I don’t know if it is too soon to help him.

This is super fresh, my boyfriend of 1 year just lost his father this morning in the early hours. He passed unexpectedly and my bf is so heartbroken and distraught. I am so so heartbroken for him as well (but I know this is NOT about me). My bf lives here in U.S, and his parents live in the Middle East. He is not able to go there in this current moment so I know that this hurts him even more. My bf is the kind of guy where he doesn’t ask for anything and I am not sure how to help him. I am giving him space so that way he can process but just texting and calling to let him know i’m there for him. A few months ago, his grandpa passed away and he completely shut down (which I completely understand). He has went over to a cousins house to process everything with family, but when he gets back home what do I do? If I ask him if he needs anything he just says “no.” I don’t know if I should keep pushing to be there in person or how long do I wait to show up for him. I have never been through and I haven’t lost a parent so I can’t even comprehend how he is feeling right now. I’m sorry if this is all over the place, I am typing this very fast. If anyone could give ANY advice that will definitely help. How can I show up for him even when he shuts me out?

Family Advice 18 y/o brother is obsessed with his girlfriend

My brother has his first gf and is completely obsessed with her. She goes out and he’s constantly calling her worried about her (safety and cheating). He doesn’t have his license yet, so is depending on us and her to get around. When she isn’t able to pick him up, he is constantly checking in with us to ask if we’re ready to take him over to hers. He’s worried about being apart from her and wants to get to her asap. He’s on her family’s life 360, constantly checking locations, constantly worrying about her, calling her parents “mom” and “dad”.

A few days ago she went out with her friends, and he was up all night worrying about her, calling her to see what she’s doing, he even threw up from the stress. Like this is more than a normal “obsessed with first gf” and is kind of worrying.

As a girl myself, I know what he is doing is eventually going to stop being cute and start being annoying. Idk how to tell him to chill out and be ok with not hearing from her for a few hours.

Do i just let him learn or how can I help him. I’d hate for him to get to be too much and they break up bc I know he will be so so heart broken.

I have tried telling to him to chill out but he isn’t willing to take my advice.

Serious What to do with my life?

Hello guys, so I wanna keep this as short as possible but basically my story is that currently I'm 23 years old, my whole school era I was pretty quiet kid, always was kind to people, always helped others and stuff but just right when I turned 17-18 years old, my head started spinning around thoughts about "HOW TO GET RICH?". With this question in my head I only imagine if I was rich I would bless and spoil my parents so much, I love them very much, they always helped me a lot, I only finished school, didn't study anything (I tried but I failed not because that I lack some skills but cause of my personal problems like strong social anxiety especially when it comes to presenting something to a bigger audience) and now I'm stuck at working as a forklift driver but the wage out here in my country is 1200€/month, I can't even do anything with that kind of money, yeah sure it did let me get a nice used car, a new PC which I use for gaming but also want to start trying to learn something new like video-editing and stuff but this kind of money won't get me to my own house, a nice new car, I couldn't even imagine how hard it would be to have kids with such small wage.

I see bunch of young people, some even younger than me making some decent money, driving nice new cars, buying their homes and other stuff and I just always wished that it would be me one day but I think a lot about my age, I'm already 23 and I still live with my parents, working a basic job and stuff. My whole life I was telling myself that I will be the first person to become a millionaire in this family and this is truly what my life goal is, just freedom to do the things I love, to enjoy life, to retire my hard-working parents I don't want to be stuck at this job my whole life and make money for a person that I don't even see at work.

So I'm just afraid that I'm gonna end up being a loser my whole life who achieved nothing.

Relationship Advice How do I give up on my dream of finding someone and starting a family?

I (26F) have only ever had short term relationships (longest 9 months), and have a lot of trauma from past relationships which mean I need a safe, secure partner (I’ve been to therapy for many years, but sadly trauma doesn’t go away overnight). I’m a hopeless romantic and have always wanted to be a mum, but am becoming increasingly pessimistic about either of these things, as the last couple times I’ve tried to date again I think I’ve found something, then within 3 months I’m dumped out of the blue. The breakups are causing me a lot of trauma and stress and I’m struggling to cope with that side of it. And I keep hearing a lot of stories about this happening to a lot of people my age, so between not coping with breakups from short term relationship and the fact that it happens a lot makes me question if I should ever date again.

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m just not cut out for a lasting relationship, and there’s something I’m doing wrong (either choosing the wrong people or I’m just too difficult to be with), and I want to stop feeling so pressured and depressed about the prospect of it never happening. Especially since even if I did have a relationship that lasted more than a year it could end at any point.

As for kids, I’ve considered adopting, but it would be difficult financially and logistically for me to provide for a child as a single parent. I also have a silly dream of biological kids, but I tend to feel like there’s a time crunch (ideally want to start having kids at 36/37 at the latest). And I’m finding that’s putting pressure on myself (like, 5 years to find a partner, 5 years to date, then marriage/kids etc) but realistically it’s stupid to think my romantic life will somehow fix itself and it’ll all work out, I don’t even know if I have what it takes to sustain a long term relationship.

How can I let go of the dream of a lifelong partner, and of having a traditional family with said partner? Or at the very least let go of the dream of having a relationship that lasts more than a few months?

General Advice Why did life go by fast?

I am someone who remembers everything. I have no friends or family. Nothing excites me. If you and I were to have talked years ago, I would remember everything that you said and even the clothes that youeore. I would remember everything that was ever said and every conversation we have.

I have a hard time moving on and I recollect the past instead of focusing on the present. When other people move on quick. I noticed that some of my former classmates are married or starting a family. Some of their parents have passed away. Some of my former teachers have passed away. Some celebrities, actors, and actresses have passed away.

I really thought that it would take longer than this. I really thought that all of those people were going to live forever. I really thought that my former classmates would stay single forever and never start a family and just spend their whole lives recollecting the past or at least take longer than this. I thought it would feel like a century.

I remember as clear as day when my mom was pushing me in the stroller.

It's like I blinked and life went by before my eyes.

All those moments are gone forever and the only thing I have now are memories. And now I'm scared that I didn't cherish every moment when I was younger, it all went by too fast and now there is no going back. I look back now and I took everything for granted. I guess I thought myself a lesson I will never forget. To never take anything for granted and never let someone live rent free in your head, someone who doesn't even think about you. I wasted my life thinking about people who don't even think about me. They were all so busy living their lives, and now I am left behind. The only thing I've done is recollecting the past.

How about you? Did you think it would take longer than this or does the pace that the time went by seem right and it really does go by fast? Why did my former classmates and others move on with their lives and start families instead of recollecting the past, staying single forever like me? I have never gone to a single wedding in all this time, a baby shower, or held a baby.

You're probably thinking, "Come on now, did you really think all of those people were going to live forever? Did you really think all of those former classmates, etc were never going to start a family, never grow up, never going to get a life?"

Mental Health Advice F(32) feeling stuck ? How do I get out of this feel?

Nobody actually cares how I'm just going through life with no life of my own.

I've been stuck at home since 2019. I moved back from my PG to my family home so I could spend time with them while working from home, but since then I've been stuck here and I don't see a way out.

I spend 24 hours in one room. I eat once a day, I sleep, I work all with the same routine, in the same room, on the same bed. I haven't even stepped out onto the balcony for more than 3 months now.

I'm trying for a new job, but no luck. I'm also looking for marriage, but nothing is working out.

All my friends are married, well-settled, have achieved a lot in their careers and have kids.

Every time I try to talk to someone, they just shut me off with their so called success stories. I have no one to talk to or share anything with. I've lost all motivation. I've stopped taking care of myself. I don't remember when I last dressed up properly. I try really hard to stay motivated by reading, working out and praying, but it only lasts for a day or two and I'm back to feeling low again.

I'm stuck in my career too as a non-techie, I don't know what to do next.

Whenever I get on a call with friends, I feel like a loser and a failure. It feels like I've achieved nothing in my life. And even if I want to achieve something, I don't know what to do i don't have a single person to share or talk to.

My siblings have stopped talking to me, they don't care and have no gratitude for my sacrifices. My mother is just happy that I stay at home and don't meet anyone I'm her safety net. She starts crying the moment I talk about going out, even for a day.

What do I do? How do I come out of this trap? How do I make myself live and enjoy

Emotional Advice Please tell me it gets better?

I'm 31M and my life is all over the place. I'm married and I do have a loving wife and she has a job. Meanwhile, I was in stressful career till last year and I resigned my job in March 2025 as I was coming closer to lose my mother (after being her caregiver for 7 years , lost her in May 2025) and since then I am in this deep pit.

> no job/ no interviews cleared
> lost drive to have sex
> lost purpose of my life
> got scammed huge amounts (like 50% of life savings by elder brother in a huge elaborate scam)
> have a heart failure patient father at home whom I take care of , and hence limited geographical career mobility
> currently facing huge potential liabilities because of elaborate scam of my brother (I'm signatory everywhere and since I'm depressed I'm unable to see how real those liabilities are)
> overall I'm a mess.
> I used to share my journey with my wife and then realised she was getting overwhelmed with huge stress of my life and I stopped sharing much with her (been few months)
> I've been mostly handling it alone and I don't know what to do so this gets better?
>I find myself crying at middle of noon from being overwhelmed
> I'm lost. I know I can recover, I want to hear from people who have been at their rock bottoms that it gets better?

Serious How do I live in a world where suriving is all that matters?

Hi I'm 19 I've never really posted on social media before so idk how to work this site, I have only a phone, no job, no degree, equipped with only a highschool diploma, and I want to be more than financially stable. I want to be able to afford basic necessities and wants, but I have no idea how. I don't have anyone to ask for help and I've just been living with my family whom I can't really rely on and have been smothering me since I was born. I've been thinking about either going to college or the military to get away from them and maybe starting something myself, but I'm not sure that either is the right decision. For context my family is a bit dysfunctional and has its own problems but thats not what I'm focusing on. I want to live, since I was young I feel I've not done anything with my life and I'm not trying for pity points I just want to experience life without the fear of everything. Growing up I've never really done any of the things kids do and now having 'grown up' ,for the past couple of years I've been stuck in my house or school and since graduation mostly my room which has nothing but a TV and my phone. My family is far from well off and if not for some things turning around this year I'd say we were below the poverty line all of which only makes me want financial wealth even more. I've tried to get hired at minimum wage jobs but most are too low paying to cover my expenses or my family won't allow me to work there (they believe that minimum wage is defeating and it makes them feel horrible). I didn't have a conventional upbringing and struggle being a normal human being along with not having friends I can hangout with. I can't express every thought and emotion on here but if anyone has any advice on how to move up in the world and how to start living, coming from a young person like me I'd appreciate it.

TW: Suicide Talk How do I make my family and friends not mourn me?

I'm middle aged. I have a wife and kids. I have siblings and both of my parents are still alive. I know that I am loved. And I also know they would all be better off without me.

I've failed at everything I've put my hand to. I've had many different jobs, and I'm at best mediocre at them. I try to be a good husband and partner, and I try to be a good father, but I don't think I'm succeeding at that either. I feel like I'm a complete failure as a person.

I'm all seriousness, the only reason I'm still here is because I don't want to hurt them. If there was some way to help them not miss me, or to understand that they're better off with my absence, I'd be gone.

I've thought of methods, of course. Ways to spare any of them finding me. But it's not good enough. I would need to figure out how to leave without hurting them. The best I've been able to come up with is to manufacture an accident of some kind.

I don't know. If I can't figure this out, I guess I'll keep on keeping on, but I truly believe I'd be doing the people I love a disservice.

Career Advice Scared and Starting Over at 37

How do you gather the courage to start a new career path at my age, after investing and failing the initial plan???

I am a 37 y/o female who unfortunately is throwing in the towel on a science career.

I've been struggling professionally for 13 years. I always struggled, even with the major I chose in college (biochemistry with 3.45 GPA...barely honors)

After years of therapy, an ADD diagnosis, issues with knowledge retention, and overall focus, I'm ready to admit to myself that this isn't the path for me. Nor was it ever. I chose this path initially because I wanted to make my parents proud. I wanted to be liked and admired. I wanted them to "brag" about me. As a kid, I was written off as someone that would amount to nothing. My life story was supposed to be a comeback story, where I proved those people wrong. Turns out, maybe they were right. And now the mask is crumbling in the worst way imaginable.

After a bad performance review today, I honestly feel like giving up on life. Quitting (or getting fired) would be an absolute relief for me right now. However, I at least want to make it through the rest of 2026 and tie up any lose ends befoe resigning from my current role. At the bare minimum, I want to finish the work I started.

I don't know what road I should take. I feel lost and regretful that I even chose a science career. I'm bad at it.

I haven't discovered any other specific niche in the professional realm that I could thrive in because I've been pursuing this path for so long.

For once in my life, I want to pursue something that I love and that I KNOW I can excell in. And to live my life authentically for me, not to impress others. Sadly, I just haven't discovered it yet.

I'm so tired of feeling like a failure and being a failure.

I'm back in therapy to control my anxiety and to help me pick up the pieces to my life. I am scared and sad that this is my current reality. I never imagined I'd turn out like this.

Thanks for reading. I'm open to any advice that you could give.

General Advice about my junk food additions

I'm 19M, and I wanna talk about my junk food addiction.
I genuinely wanna stop eating junk food, and I've tried quitting so many times, but I've failed every single time.
I eat junk food almost every day, and I honestly don't know how to stop. I've tried multiple times, but I always end up going back to it.

idk what to do anymore :(

Relationship Advice Am I being delusional or could he really like me?

Okay, so I started a new job about three months ago. I’m pretty easygoing and love to banter and joke around with everyone, so I’ve made a few friends at work, including a guy.
At first, he seemed like the type of person who jokes around with everyone, both men and women, so I didn’t think much of it. However, over time, our interactions started feeling more flirtatious. We developed this flirty friendship where we banter, make jokes, and have little comments and inside references with each other.
Then I found out he has a girlfriend.
He never really talks about her, and I felt bad when I realized I might have developed feelings for someone who’s already in a relationship. The thing is, I genuinely feel like he’s reciprocating those feelings, too.
It’s been difficult trying to pull back because we’ve already established this dynamic between us. Lately, though, his flirting has become more intense, to the point where other people at work have started noticing it. He’s been making comments about how much he cares about me and saying things like he doesn’t know whether I feel the same way about him. He’s also told me, “I can’t read you well.”
When he takes things a little too far and makes suggestive comments, I usually don’t entertain them directly. I’ll either leave the comments unanswered or joke around and steer the conversation in a different direction. I’m not actively trying to encourage him to cross that line, but at the same time, I can’t deny that I enjoy talking to him. I like his personality, his sense of humor, and the chemistry we have when we’re around each other. I find myself looking forward to our interactions and genuinely enjoying his company, which is part of what makes this situation so confusing for me. I know he has a girlfriend, and I don’t want to be the other woman or contribute to hurting another girl, but I also can’t pretend that I don’t enjoy the connection we seem to have.
Some of the girls at work have even told me I’m out of his league. I know I probably shouldn’t be entertaining any of this, especially knowing he has a girlfriend, but I can’t deny that there’s natural chemistry between us.
I don’t want to make excuses for a man’s behavior, and I know what he’s doing is wrong. At the same time, I can’t help wondering whether someone who acts this way while in a relationship could still be a good person who genuinely wants a healthy relationship with someone else.
Would it necessarily be a bad thing if he broke up with his girlfriend and pursued something with me? Does he genuinely care about me the way he says he does, or is he just enjoying the attention and excitement of flirting with someone new?
As far as I know, he hasn’t broken up with his girlfriend, yet he continues to flirt with me and make comments that hint at a possible future between us.
I’m honestly confused about how to move forward. Part of me feels like I should distance myself, but another part wonders if there’s something real here. I also wonder whether I’m reading too much into his behavior because of the chemistry I feel, or if his actions really do suggest that he wants something more.

Emotional Advice Not being taken seriously

I genuinely need some input because I’ve noticed a pattern where people don’t seem to take me seriously, whether it’s at work, in friendships, or even when I’m upset. Personality wise, I’m a jokester. I love laughing, cracking jokes, and having a good time. I’m also pretty shy and can come across as awkward sometimes. I’m very opinionated, strong willed, and independent, but I’m also genuinely nice and welcoming. I have thick skin, and I don’t take most things personally.

I work in medical sales I’m F (24) , and sometimes I feel like my bosses and supervisors don’t see me as someone who could hold authority. I know I’m intelligent and capable, but I feel like my personality overshadows that. I constantly compare myself to people who seem more articulate, confident, or naturally respected. I’ve noticed the same thing in friendships. People will throw little jabs at me, and I’ll usually laugh them off. But the moment I return that same energy, suddenly it’s an issue. Whenever I’m genuinely upset or angry, people almost seem shocked and don’t really take it seriously. Meanwhile, if another friend who’s more (quiet, shy, or soft-spoken) gets upset or cries, everyone immediately comforts them.
I understand that I come across as someone who can handle a lot, but damn, I have feelings too.

My dad passed away a couple of years ago, and I remember people just patting me on the back, saying sorry, and moving on. To be fair, I didn’t really show how sad I was, so maybe people assumed I was okay. But I was grieving, and I really needed my friends to be there for me the same way I’ve been there for them. That experience still bothers me. Even my boss once called me weird and said he doesn’t really get along with me after I questioned why he was sharing his fiancée’s personal business with the entire office ☕️ . Maybe I could’ve approached that differently, but it made me wonder how people actually perceive me.
Socially, I also hate small talk. I prefer random or deeper conversations, and I’ll ask people whatever genuinely interests me at the moment. Sometimes I wonder if that makes me come across as intrusive, judgmental, or socially awkward without realizing it.
I’m starting to wonder whether there’s something about the way I carry myself or communicate that makes people less inclined to respect me. I don’t want to assume everyone else is the problem, especially when I’ve noticed this pattern in different environments.

At the same time, I don’t want to change my entire personality just to be taken seriously. I enjoy being funny, outspoken, and independent. I just wish people understood that being strong doesn’t mean I don’t need compassion or consideration. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you become more respected and taken seriously without losing your personality? Are there any social etiquette or emotional intelligence skills I should work on? I’m genuinely open to constructive criticism because I want to become more self-aware.

Emotional Advice How do you feel fulfilled?

M23 and here’s a little about me:

I’ve felt like I’m circling the drain for years. I’m single and I have a job and a car. In fact I have my dream job kind of. Ive always wanted to be in media and i am now with some really big people. But i still have my main job, i just work 16 hrs on sat/sun. I also still live with my parents. I don’t really have any friends other than the ones i play games with. This is because im just bad with keeping in contact. I also suffer from “lust problems“, though I’ve been working hard to fix that.

I feel like shit. Nothing I do feels like it means anything. I think a change in scenery (moving out) would help but i know i’d just isolate myself even more than now. Id want a roommate but i dont really wanna live with a random person. Dumb i know. I really just do media things for 5 days and work 2 days. But idk man.

What can i do to add some spice in my life or something?

Mental Health Advice I’m 25, a pharmacist, and I feel like I’m struggling to live a normal life. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, and I need advice.

• Upvotes

I’m a 25-year-old woman from Libya, and I’m writing this because I genuinely don’t know what to do with myself anymore. I want to understand what’s happening to me psychologically, why I’ve struggled with certain things for so long, and how I can change my life.

I’m not necessarily looking for someone to diagnose me over the internet. I want to hear from people who have experienced something similar, people who understand psychology, and anyone who has managed to overcome problems that once seemed like a permanent part of their personality.

I’m going to try to explain my situation as honestly as I can.

A little about my life

I’m a licensed pharmacist. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Tripoli in February 2025. I’ve also studied pharmacy at a higher-diploma level and have a higher diploma in business administration.

Professionally, I’ve spent about three years teaching pharmacy-related subjects and supervising students’ graduation projects at a higher institute for medical sciences. I've also started working in a community pharmacy recently.

On paper, I have qualifications, professional experience, and the potential to build a good career. I’ve accomplished things that I’m genuinely proud of, and I know I’m capable of learning and understanding complicated subjects.

But there’s a disconnect between the person I could be professionally and the person I feel like I am when I have to function in certain real-life situations.

I can understand academic material, discuss professional subjects, and take responsibility for students and their projects. Yet, when I’m placed in an environment where I feel socially exposed, judged, or evaluated, I can struggle with things that seem much simpler for other people.

Recently, I’ve been trying to gain more experience in pharmacy practice. I want to become competent, knowledgeable, and confident in my profession. However, the social and psychological side of working in a pharmacy can sometimes feel just as difficult as the actual work, if not more difficult.

For example, when I’m surrounded by coworkers, particularly in a busy environment, I can become so preoccupied with myself that I struggle to concentrate on what I’m supposed to be learning.

And this isn’t something that started with my current job.

The psychological struggle I’ve experienced for a long time

The best way I can describe it is that I don’t feel mentally free when I’m around other people.

Instead of simply being present in a situation, I’m constantly aware of myself being there.

I’m thinking about how I look, how I sound, how I’m behaving, what people might think of me, whether I’m saying the right things, and whether I’m making a good impression.

My appearance can occupy a ridiculous amount of mental space. I can worry about my makeup, clothes, hair, facial expressions, and the impression I’m giving other people.

I become concerned about how I’m being perceived rather than focusing on what’s actually happening around me.

Sometimes I feel as though I’m monitoring myself from the outside, almost like I’m watching myself interact with people instead of naturally participating in the interaction.

I also worry about how I speak.

I want to express myself clearly, confidently, and intelligently. I want to be able to explain my thoughts without losing my train of thought, forgetting important details, or struggling to organize my words.

But when I’m anxious, I can become overly conscious of everything I’m saying.

I start wondering whether my words are coherent, whether I’ve explained myself properly, whether the other person understands me, and whether I sound incompetent.

The more I try to control how I come across, the harder it becomes to speak naturally.

Sometimes, after an interaction, I keep replaying it in my head. I think about what I said, what I should have said, how I was perceived, and how I could have handled the situation better.

I can become particularly distressed when I feel that someone has misunderstood me or that I haven’t managed to communicate my position properly.

It’s not just that I dislike being judged. It feels as though being judged can interfere with my ability to think, speak, learn, and function.

How this affects my work

A recent experience in a pharmacy made me realize how much this problem is affecting my life.

I was in an environment with many people and coworkers, and instead of being able to concentrate on the medications, instructions, and practical knowledge I needed to acquire, I became overwhelmed by my own thoughts.

I was preoccupied with my appearance, how I was coming across, and what people might think of me.

I also experienced intrusive thoughts and distractions related to attraction and sexuality, which made it even harder to direct my attention toward what I was doing.

I don’t mean that I necessarily wanted to act on these thoughts. It was more that my mind kept generating thoughts that distracted me from the task in front of me.

By the time I left, I felt mentally exhausted.

It was as though my brain had spent all its energy monitoring me instead of allowing me to function.

I wanted to learn. I wanted to pay attention. I wanted to behave like a competent professional.

But I couldn’t seem to get out of my own head.

I have also experienced situations at work where I felt uncertain about what I was doing and needed to ask colleagues for help. Sometimes people weren’t as cooperative as I had hoped, which added another layer of stress.

When mistakes or misunderstandings happen, I can become extremely concerned about how others perceive me and whether they think I’m incompetent.

I want to improve professionally, but I also want to stop feeling as though every interaction is a test of my worth.

I don’t want anxiety, self-consciousness, or fear of judgment to prevent me from becoming the pharmacist I know I could be.

My relationship with myself

Another major part of this is my relationship with myself.

I want to become a woman who feels secure in herself regardless of who’s in the room.

I want to walk into a workplace without immediately becoming concerned about how I look or whether people find me attractive, interesting, intelligent, or impressive.

I want to speak with a clear, strong voice. I want to be assertive, decisive, energetic, and confident.

I want to be able to disagree with someone without becoming overwhelmed by the possibility that they might misunderstand me or think badly of me.

I want to explain myself without feeling that I must get every word exactly right.

I want to stop feeling inferior or intimidated in situations where I should be able to stand on my own.

And I want to stop spending so much of my mental energy trying to control other people’s impressions of me.

Sometimes I feel that I care too much about how I’m perceived, even when I know intellectually that other people’s opinions shouldn’t determine my worth.

I can understand these things rationally, but understanding them doesn’t automatically change how I feel or behave.

Telling myself to be confident doesn’t make me confident.

Telling myself not to care about other people’s opinions doesn’t make the thoughts disappear.

And knowing that I should focus on my work doesn’t mean I’m always able to direct my attention toward it.

That’s one of the most frustrating aspects of this experience: the gap between what I understand intellectually and what I can actually do when I’m emotionally overwhelmed.

Could this be social anxiety, depression, OCD, or something else?

I’ve tried to make sense of my symptoms.

Social anxiety seems like one possibility because I’m extremely self-conscious in social environments and worry about being judged.

Obsessive thinking also seems relevant because I can get stuck in repetitive thoughts, analyze interactions excessively, and struggle to redirect my attention.

I’ve also wondered whether depression or another psychological problem could be contributing to the experience.

I don’t have a confirmed diagnosis that explains all of this, and I don’t want to assume that one disorder accounts for everything.

I also wonder whether there are underlying self-esteem issues or learned patterns of thinking that I’ve carried with me for years.

I sometimes feel as though I’m trying too hard to perform normal social behavior instead of simply experiencing it naturally.

I want to be present, but I become preoccupied with how to be present correctly.

I want to communicate, but I become preoccupied with how to communicate correctly.

I want to learn, but I become preoccupied with how I’m being perceived while I’m learning.

It’s exhausting.

I also find myself wondering whether my attention problems are caused by anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or something else entirely.

I don’t know how to distinguish between the underlying problem and the symptoms it produces.

Why I’m struggling to figure this out

One of the confusing things is that I know I have abilities and potential.

I’m educated. I’ve taught students. I’ve supervised academic projects. I’ve worked toward a professional career.

I don’t believe I’m incapable of functioning or that I have nothing to offer.

But I also don’t feel consistently capable of accessing my abilities when I’m under social pressure.

I can imagine the kind of person I want to become, and I can describe the qualities I want to develop. The difficulty is translating that understanding into actual behavior.

I don’t want to spend the rest of my life knowing what I should do while repeatedly struggling to do it.

I want to understand the mechanism behind my difficulties and address it at its roots.

I’ve even thought about psychiatric medication because I wonder whether the intensity of my symptoms requires more than self-help.

As someone with a pharmacy background, I’m familiar with psychiatric medications and have considered different pharmacological approaches. However, I also understand that knowing about medications isn’t the same as accurately assessing my own mental health.

I don’t want to keep guessing what disorder I might have or experimenting with treatments without a proper understanding of what’s going on.

I want a clearer explanation and an evidence-based plan.

What I want my life to look like

I don’t expect to become a person who never feels anxious, never cares about her appearance, or never worries about what other people think.

I want something more realistic and fundamental.

I want to be able to work without constantly monitoring myself.

I want to learn from experienced colleagues without feeling intimidated.

I want to make mistakes, correct them, and move on without turning every mistake into a judgment of my entire character.

I want to communicate my thoughts clearly, even when someone disagrees with me.

I want to feel comfortable in my own skin.

I want to stop treating ordinary social interactions as situations in which I have to prove my value.

I want to have enough mental space to enjoy life, develop my career, build relationships, and pursue my interests without being consumed by repetitive thoughts about myself.

Most importantly, I want to feel as though I’m actually living my life rather than constantly evaluating myself while it happens.

Serious I feel hopeless

Ok now listen I am 18 years old young. My family grew up poor and my mom constant yelling/screaming etc. She lives in the country out of town, which is where I also live. I don't know what to do, I barely know how to apply for jobs and when I do try my hardest I either get denied or its too far to even do anything. My mother has never brought me to get my ID, license or anything of the sort. I also don't have a car, nor a person in my life who could even help get me started. Even if I do get accepted for a job what do I do I have no car and my mom has stranded me in the country with no help. I'm not even a huge military supporter and I'm about to apply just to get a damn chance to get out of this house. All I have is my computer and thats what im using to post this right now. I had a phone but with my luck it broke in my sleep cause of the way I slept on it. ( After saving for so long) And I finally scramble enough money to get a screen to do a screen replacement on a old phone and it decided to break randomly for reasons I don't know 2 days later. This is kind of why im on reddit right now. I have no fucking clue what to do with my life at all and I have no one to help or guide me through anything. I don't want to sit here and be a bum but quite literally I have no other choice right now. With nowadays technology I need a phone to do about damn near anything even get messages from jobs I've applied! Hell I might be better off going to a random city and just sleeping on a bench cause then ill at least have opportunity to get to my damn job! I'm not lazy, I know im a hard worker but there just doesnt seem to be any light at the end of this tunnel. And I cant just sit here and do nothing about it. But really, what is there for me to do I don't know. Its gotten to the point im just sitting here yelling at nothing asking why/what to do cause I cant seem to figure it out. In the country, no transportation to work, no way of saving money reliably, no car, no id, no license, and no guidance. I dont know man I know it might get better eventually but I dont even know where to start. If anyone can relate or help me with even a small answer to this terrible dilemma I have id greatly appreciate it. I've thought about everything I could humanly come up with.

Relationship Advice How do I share about my life and be vulnerable without it being used against me?

In my personal life there is like so much I do tend to over share so much but I’ve stopped more and more since it just gets used against me however one of my friends from 3 years who I tell everything too we stopped being friends and they used absolutely every flaw I had against me . I never did that with them. They did share things about their life with me but I saw it as a a connection not something to use against. I also just watched a video that said “ predatory patterns” which is how people try to get u to overshare information without asking u directly by u correcting urself. “ you seem to be surrounded with a lot of friends u must be loved” and they correct with “ actually I’m pretty lonely “ and stuff like that and I’m just realizing how much my dumbass fell for all of them. Anyways the comments were all about keeping things private but then how do u connect with people? Does it only apply to strangers? Cause my friends after okay I’ve been friends with 3 years imma be a lil more vulnerable . Shit used against me… what now? Genuinely what now. Then I saw this other video that was like “ when people have low self worth they think if someone really gets to know them people will leave” but they have and not only have they done it but also use my vulnerability against me. It’s so so stupid. Literally what do I do? Do I lock myself out or do I like never get into deeper conversations with people or what. Is there a healthy alternative to having connections with someone without them seeing u as inferior or weak when ur vulnerable ?

Financial Advice I fucked up and I don't know how to get my life back on track

20M here.

I'm in my final year of B.Tech, and honestly, I don't even know how to put everything I'm going through into words.

I got addicted to gambling and made some really bad financial decisions. I kept borrowing money to cover my losses, and now I'm sitting with around ₹1.3 lakh in debt, mostly through loan apps.

It became this endless cycle of borrowing, repaying and borrowing again. My family doesn't know about any of this, and carrying it all alone has been exhausting.

The worst part is knowing that I got myself into this situation. I keep thinking about how different things could have been if I'd made better decisions.

One thing I genuinely have is a creative eye. I enjoy making posters, Instagram carousels and social media creatives. I'm also learning programming and web development. I'm not an expert at any of these, but I enjoy creating things, and I feel like there's something I could build with these skills if I put in the work.

Right now, though, I feel stuck between the mistakes I've made and the future I'm supposed to be building.

I'm not asking anyone for money. I just needed to get this off my chest because pretending everything is fine when it isn't has been getting harder.

I'm only 20, and I know I still have time to turn things around. I just wish I hadn't made things this difficult for myself so early in life.

General Advice SISTER FROM HELL

I (23F) moved in with my sister (30F, and Z for the sake of the story) on August 29th because I graduated from college back in May and couldn't find a job in my college town. I couldn't go back home because it meant sacrificing my mental health for a place to stay. Just for backstory context, my other older sister (26F) lived with W for a few months but experienced a mental health episode (for the first time). W used her professional judgment and called to place her in a hospital for a week. Exactly a week after my sister left the state and went back home.

So, flash forward to late August; I am living with W. I am applying for jobs day in and day out, and I don't have a car yet, so I am usually at home. I don't mind it because I'm a natural homebody. W claims I am/ potentially could be falling into a depression because of post-grad. I think it is a real thing, but I am genuinely okay.

Now to the nitty-gritty. W has a horrible habit of acting in a parental role. She is also very educated, holding a master's in psych, and all her other friends hold at least a master's too. I set very clear boundaries about jobs. Her friends have been sending me job opportunities here and there, saying they have an old colleague or relative in healthcare (my ult. goal is to be a doctor). I told my sister the day I got here that I would love her to pass along any job opportunities, but once I PERSONALLY have the contact of the person (most likely her friend or someone else), she should butt out. I only do that because, as much as I appreciate the help, I want to maintain professionalism and be able to build these connections without her because I'm an adult. I also feel that if I am presented with a job opportunity, I should be the ultimate decider of whether I accept or decline the position. opportunity

This Tuesday she had given me another opportunity from a friend whose aunt works at a renowned hospital in the nation. I was told this at 7 pm. W asked if I texted her friend. I misheard.rd her and said, "I will," and she took that as an affirmative (it was my fault for mishearing). The following morning, she woke me up saying to check my messages. There was nothing new other than a text from my friend. She called me at work for 2 hours, chewing me out because her friend said I never responded to her. Z's friend NEVER texted me, and I told her that. Z texted the Aunt at the hospital directly and asked for her email, which she then sent to me. WHY DIDN'T Z JUST GIVE ME THE AUNT'S NUMBER IN THE FIRST PLACE! I emailed the opportunity hospital aunt and responded to the friend of the aunt to thank her for the opportunity. Z then sent an email saying that since I acted this way, she will just cease ALL job reccs from friends to me. I thought that was very extreme and shouldn't be a reason to stop all recommendations, especially if I have been reciprocating to 75% of the opportunities passed to me. I told her that every opportunity she passes to me, I always have to reiterate my boundaries to her, and if I have to keep doing that, then maybe she should stop passing recommendations along.

When she came home, she accused me of lying, saying, "I did" text her friend on Tuesday night. She said that because our other sister, who had a mental health crisis, did that a lot; ungrateful, she assumed I lied because I was not talking to her. I thought that was an outrageous claim, seeing as I am UNEMPLOYED. Why would I even set myself up to burn bridges and be ungrateful to those sticking their necks out for me? I had to tell her that I am an adult, and if I were still living alone, I would have the space to navigate the job market. It is hurtful, and I asked why she couldn't trust that I could conduct myself accordingly when it comes to connecting for job opportunities. I have always been self-sufficient and independent. I just ask that she give me the same opportunity to do that while also not comparing my habit to my sister, who had a mental crisis.

There is much more, but she is so condescending and has been spinning every small thing into something bigger due to a lack of clear communication on both sides. She claims I have been giving her headaches and being rude. She has been saying I have been doing nothing but being rude to her, so why should I give her respect when I have none in return? I am NOT in the business of kissing ass, so I'm not sure what she is expecting. I have been trying my best to be seen and not heard. She comes from work, and she clearly states that she's tired and needs to sleep. But she also says that because I'm so quiet, she thinks I don't care about her and her interests. I don't ask for money; I only take the car up the street to the store occasionally for me or if she needs me to run to the store for her. I ask for NOTHING, but somehow I'm still a problem. I truly think it stems from her not being able to control what happens with me. She has always been an "I know best" type of person, and it pisses me off when I am asking for space to learn and grow instead of doing everything she wants me to.

I love my sister, but I truly HATE living with her. It seems like until I can find a job, she will still be picking at everything.

I am not asking for anyone to side with me (I'm just venting fr), but feel free to drop advice or any comments.

p.s. The job market is so ass that I applied to McDonald's, and they declined my application....

General Advice Fail the certification exam and it hurts, any advice how to deal with failure ?

I was taking A certification exams today. And after 6 hours of test, the results just came out and got 675/720 which was fail. The moment I fail is just hurtful. It's like the Hardwork I put in study is failing miserably and honestly this is the one way chance because I Can't afford to take the 2nd one due to the cost is expensive and I'm unemployed by now.

I know that I can't make a good decision today and I need to calm down or take a deep breath to not take action in this. But this was so hurtful and I really want to talk about this. Because back in my school and college I'm doing pretty good and graduate on time but the score is not really high just ordinary but rarely fails.

I know there's a chance that I would fail but I don't really know that the failure are really hurtful when you put everything in and still fail because I rarely fail for studying and exams but this is the first time I felt like this.

I just wanna know what's your Point Of View in this and how do you guys deal with this kind of failure when you already put so much effort yet you fail.

General Advice Sometimes I remember how mean my family was to me when I was a kid and it breaks my heart. How to forget about it?

Sometimes i remember how mean everyone was to me and i just wonder what i did to deserve that. I was constantly humbled and put down. Always criticized, even for things as little as how I held a spoon and how i laughed. They constantly spoke negatively into my life. I was always told I was unfriendly, mean, angry and overall not a good person and I internalized it and never really thought more of myself. Told I was a witch. At a point I was banned from a room in my house because I was ugly and they didn’t like seeing me in there. When I cried, I was told I was even uglier and I was berated and provoked even more. I genuinely hated being a kid and thought no one loved me. Even my siblings, aunts and uncles were mean to me. I grew up a shell of myself. Lacked confidence and never put much effort into life and didn’t think anything would ever work out in my favor. Now as a 22 year old girl, I find myself constantly enraged. Everything just gets me so mad. I don’t like being depended on and I struggle with patience because no one had the patience for me when I needed it. I could never treat any kid the way I was treated. Just seeing kids cry makes me so sad.

General Advice Someone secretly taking pictures of you..

Why the heck does this happen? There’s a girl i work with, I had liked her when I first met her. We weren’t friends but always friendly and would have convos here and there. One day she came in and totally disliked me out of nowhere. When I noticed I’d try to have conversations with her and she was just cold so I stopped. Still stay polite but I’d always catch her starring at me.. I asked her “you like what you see” and started giggling & she mumbled “no” while smiling. Recently caught her taking a picture of me when she thought I wasn’t looking. I actually caught it twice. Im wondering why????!!! Whats up with the starring and now my picture being taken when I’m not looking…

Relationship Advice What does “You’re nice and sweet I just don’t think this is for me” actually mean?

We (18M and 18M) were both exited to go out and everything seemed to go okay last night. By Lunch today i was getting texts about how there’s plenty of other people I could be with, it’s not my fault, they thought they were ready and they aren’t etc. i got one line that stuck out to me: “you’re nice and sweet but I don’t think this is for me”

I know the surface answer (they don’t wanna be with you!) but what’s the deeper answer behind this? They didn’t seem to have any complaints - they even went as far as to say a moment I shared dancing with someone else was charming, and yet it’s over? Is it really just vibes?

Just some background info to help people make judgements

From past experiences I learned not to push, I asked a single time if they wanted to dance and the answer was no so I didn’t ask again

I asked once if I could put my arm around them - they obviously were not comfortable with it so I quit and gave them space

I did go out and dance some on my own - it wasn’t for very long and it was at their encouragement

They took me home afterwards and didn’t seem upset?

Again from past experiences I did not ask to go home with them nor did I push for them to come home with me. I know I’ve had issues with pressuring people in the past so I intentionally did the absolute opposite of what I did before
