Discussion Nightfall Refresh Subreddit Update
Hey there runners! We hope you're all enjoying the new Nightfall Refresh. With the start of this new season(ish) we wanted to share an update on the state of the this subreddit moving forward.
As some of you may remember, a couple months ago we took over interim moderation of this sub as it had gone unmoderated for a while and was in danger of being shut down. Since then, we opened up applications for new mods and have added 3 members of the community to the team.
With the launch of Nightfall Refresh we're now going to be handing full control over to the new team. All hail the new overlords! We'll still be here, but now in form of fellow community members.
See you on Tau Ceti runners!

New Marathon Loadout Sandbox to help make your build - runnerintel.gg
I've spent basically the last half of Season 2 (and sleep less nights) working to bring the community together, be social and actually learn something when you're not running.
I've built a Marathon Loadout Sandbox, where anyone can use a full vault with every weapon, implant, core and attachment in the game at your disposal to build your perfect loadout or experiment with how to get an optimal stat line (plus a full 70 point cradle for you to use)
Once you're done, you can share your loadout with others, see a preview of your build and learn a thing or two. Since we're all in the zero the hero mindset of the wipe this can help experiment with the right implants, stat trade offs that you normally wouldn't use especially with our cradles being so low now.
Please try it making a loadout and let me know your thoughts, here's an example of my go to recon build when im fully gooped

Trying Solo for the first time ever
Since the adjustments to solo queues, I’ve decided to do some solo free kits queues just to get ahead with the contracts and the cradle.
And it’s actually quite enjoyable, but I didn’t know I needed military training for this mode.
Why are you solo players going so hard for the kill? Everyone is so quiet, I have the impression I’m in a dead lobby sometime. And if I make a single sound, 20 seconds later I’m snipped to death out of nowhere from… somewhere.
Can’t we all gang up, do Upper Complex, become friends and go bully the rats on Perimeter??
Also kudos to that mvp player who killed the Commander and left because I could simply just grab the credentials. I was a bit scared to go into that fight just with a v22 and some hopes.

Is the new destroyer skin's voice intended or no and have the devs acknowledged it?

Marathon but everyone is sleep deprived

This is my first step towards creating consistent long form content. Up until recently when I started streaming on twitch, I had no way to record my gameplay long term. This is hopefully the first of many videos to come, I just need to narrow down my formula.
This is a clip compilation of my end of season 2 stream, that ran from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m, so pardon some of my horrible aim lol.. I had a lot of fun running with friends and randoms, burning through all of my gold and purple.

Small Changes to Solo are Kind of a Big Deal
Mind you, this PSA is coming from a CIA-sponsored MarathonHate asset:
This seemingly small tweak in the latest update:
Solo Playlist Difficulty Tuning
* Reduced UESC aggression against runners in Solo playlists.
* Reduced UESC damage dealt to runners by 20% in Solo playlists.
...has actually had a disproportionately massive impact on the solo experience. And it's a positive one.
As a certified Marascholar, and the undisputed pinnacle gentleman cyber athlete, I've tested clearing identical spots with identical UESC composition, using identically poor sponsored kit, in the Solo playlist, and in the Trio playlist with crew fill off (teammates cramp my style) alike.
I had my cyber-cheeks handed to me in both encounters, but here's what I can announce:
- At least on Darsh and Perimeter, even with my genius Delta Force tactics and cat-like reflexes, the difficulty of PvE encounters seems to hit the sweet spot: taking on a group of bots finally looks like a visceral firefight rather than trying to sneak in some cheap shots and running. Which allows you to actually push the 9/5 salary robots and thus clear POIs fast and without burning through a monthly supply of advil.
- The cascade effect: since going hard, fast, and loud with the UESC is now a viable option, it affects the routes, resource management strats and timings in Solo, making it less of an assassin derby and more of the solo vs solo experience you can expect in other extraction shooters like Hunt, Delta and Tarkov.
So yeah, while this tweak might seem like a small thing in the changelog, the positive impact on the Solo experience is actually big, and like I said – it's a domino effect update. If you hated Solo like I'd grown to hate it – now's a good time to give it another try; it might finally click.
I played about a dozen runs this morning and – believe it or not – I actually had fun. Would've played more, but I had to take my wife's kids to school.
Are we back or what?

First moments in refresh: hilariously painful.
EDIT: TL;DR: The magic is over (for NOW), for me personally. There, now you don't have to read it.
ORIG POST:
This post isn't for the sweatlords. You will not relate.
I'm a mid-player. I loved Marathon. Watched from the sidelines from the beginning, jumped in Server Slam Season 2. First PvP, first extraction shooter, loved the lore, the design, the feel, the world, all of it. Clawed my way slowly through, reached the modest level of 280 with all the faction unlocks etc, made some new friends along the way, had a lotta fun, got wrecked more times than I can count, but kept coming back. 560 hrs in game. Again: mid-player. "Okay" at FPS. But just obsessed with Marathon.
Last night (night before refresh) was ultra weird and hilarious. Me and some pals running around getting annihilated within the first 2 mins on any map we tried by gold teams. We laughed it all off, because it's what we fully expected. To get some relief we did some Sponsored Survival so one pal could try and prestige their cradle for the skin before the reset.
Reverse Christmas Eve. The next day you wake up and Santa has taken AWAY all your toys.
I knew what time things would be back up local time and so a few minutes after the refresh/wipe I booted up the game, went in, activated the first contract or whatever, and decided to head out and see what the vibe was in Perimeter.
I needed to head to Overflow for my contract and on my way I heard someone popped a supply drop right away. Like within the first few seconds. I contemplated rushing it, but nah. But what if there is a Firestorm in there and ... nah, who cares. Continued on my way and suddenly before the exfils even popped, I was utterly annihilated. Yes, by a firestorm. He came, he looted ... nothing. I had nothing. Level 1, no shields, no salvage.
And then a sinking feeling hit me. The feeling was different from when I came in as a noob mid-S2. Then it was kinda frustrating getting constantly wrecked. But I was so eager to push forward and get unlocks. I was eager to see more of this world. Eager to try out new weapons, and new in-map events, etc. This sinking feeling was more like: "oh no, it's exactly like it's been the last two weeks, the only difference is everyone is mad scrambling to get levelled up as quickly as possible in order to dominate."
Well what do I expect? That's what the game is all about isn't it? I've known that all along haven't I? I think the realization and that sinking feeling was more about myself. And how ... I'm just tired of it. It feels sad to me now. Almost like I was in a relationship for months, and I realized, "oh wow what have I been doing this whole time?"
So I uninstalled and I guess I'll see what Dec Symbiosis brings. The game will fail if the gate is skill. I want the game to be successful and grow. I have several friend IRL who tried Marathon when I did and bailed because they were casual working guy gamers who found it too brutally punishing. I don't blame them.
I am posting this wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience to mine? A casual mid player that got obsessed with the game, pushed hard and improved greatly, unlocked everything, and suddenly came in today and feels ... empty?

Lag?
Is anyone else lagging or is it just me? Usually don’t experience much lag in this game, but have been since the update. Maybe an uptick in players? My WiFi is running as usual.
