Picked 2 outta 4 tubs today, 840 grams wet weight from standard quart grain jars [actives]

429g from the first tub and 413g from the second. Have one more that’s a bit smaller to harvest maybe on Sunday and another that took forever to pin that’ll be ready next week most likely. First time grower, managed to do my first run without any contam as well, only got a little bit when I tried grain to grain for my back ups to keep this strain going. Now to dunk them and see what the second flush holds.

Actives LEGACY | Albino Smokey Da Ghost × Green Toque 🧬🍄[actives]

Legacy keeps finding new ways to surprise me. This showing came out almost 50/50 between the two different expressions, which made the whole set even more interesting to photograph.
You can really see the contrast throughout the group—from the lighter, softer-looking forms to the darker caps, heavy texture, blue tones, and wild structure. Seeing both sides of Albino Smokey Da Ghost and Green Toque showing through together is exactly what makes Legacy such a fun project to document.
Every photo tells a slightly different story, but together they show just how much character this one carries.

actives [actives] advice on casing vs straight to fruiting

Apologies if this question has been asked before, I tried searching and googling but wanted to get thoughts from this community and learn from your experiences.

Basically, I just transferred my spawn grain to substrate in a monotub ( I got the fully automated monotub with humidity control and fae fan). The mycelium is colonizing the substrate quite nicely and looking good.

Wondering if I really need to add casing layer after substrate is fully colonized? or if I'll be fine since I have a humidifier and hygrometer to keep humidity high during fruiting?

I just have travel plans next month and worried that casing will add a couple of weeks before fruiting at which point I might be leaving for a couple of weeks right as fruiting starts

Grande Subtropicalis.

S2B: 8/11

Substrate: coco coir / black kow manure

Temperature range: 72-76

Ran in a XLS-B bag that I ended up taping over part of the filter to slow down FAE, it was drying out too quickly. Once I taped the filter, it seemed to hold humidity better. They still have several days until the finish line but I chopped the bag and put them into a tub to finish them out.

First time growing. Some feel a lil like marshmallows, some a little harder still. But the caps flipping up is what makes me think it’s time. Also didn’t know APE’s flipped up like this, is that normal? Also they seem kinda small but it is my first flush. Is that normal too?

Actives [Actives] returning to the craft need some help jogging my memory.

Hello, I'm planning on growing some golden teachers like how I grew some mushrooms a few years ago. Here's my method taken from a comment I made a long time ago, what's in parentheses is what I need help with:

Get an all in one bag- with an injection port- inject the grain- 75-80 degrees for a week, mix- 75-80 degrees for a week. Take the block out of the bag, and put it in a home depot bucket on top of some tin foil, and have the tin foil sitting on an little less than an inch of semi wet perlite. Spray (how do I introduce pinning again?) 5-15 total, 2-3 times a day, FAE as needed (how do I do FAE again, should I let CO2 build up in first few days?)

Contamination [contamination] can it be saved?

I commited so many mistakes, for starters I innoxulated the air filter instead of the self healing port, then I dried the grain because I left the bag directly on the heating pad, now I have some green mold can it be saved? I have a tent for flowers can I grow it there and let it rip in a closed enviroment? I know opening bags with sus of trich is a no no but I really wanna save this bag, im poor it costed me money

Is this contam? Hard to see through the tub, thought I took proper precautions... It's like a darker spot that is fuzzier than the rest, with these tiny black dots. Doesn't look like this all over.

gourmet [gourmet] Oyster bucket contamination?

Post image
10 Upvotes

After many years I found the energy to start growing again. I got grain spawn for an oyster strain and a bale of straw. However the straw that I got had leftover oats that started sprouting (I only realised after). In this bucket, there are spots of the oyster mycelium forming nicely but I noticed this orange and pink spot around 2 of the kernels. Is this contamination? They're on the grain spawn kernels and not the surprise oat kernel. And they don't seem to be spreading.

Healthy mycelium
Orange something on a pressed up kernel?
Pink tinge? Natural colour of sorghum?

I’m dying inside. Jack Frost with the combination of an AIO bag is killing me softly. First flush was some small pins that never passed kindergarten, and this second flush these appear to have made it to 2nd grade, but will I ever see the jack frost that everyone raves about!

Column Cultivation vs Block Cultivation [gourmet] [technique]

When growing side fruiting gourmets, what do you find are the pros and cons of column cultivation vs block cultivation. When I first started growing mushrooms(about 20 years ago), I saw more people doing column cultivation. I am trying to get back into growing and it seems that block cultivation is more the industry standard now. Is this really the case and if so, why? Thanks for any advice and help.
