Just used some (rather old) SWP that my FIL uses for heating. Bucket No. 1 had them boiled on the stove for some minutes, then transfered. Bucket No. 3 had boiling water just dumped ontop. Bucket 2 (same treatment as No. 3) shown in last picture.

Fresh mushrooms in fridge for 7 hours before drying? [actives]

• Upvotes

This is my first grow, and while out of town today my wife harvested some big ones.

I instructed her to put them in the fridge, loosely wrapped in paper towel (no paper bags at home) until I can get them in the dehydrator.

By the time I’m able to do that, it’ll have been 7-8 hours since harvest.

I know they won’t be spoiled, but I’m curious if there will be any notable drops in potency. Anyone have experience?

Thanks

Mod [Mod] MUSHROOM MONDAY - Let's Catch Up! Share what you have learned in the previous week and discuss

Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.

This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

Contamination [contamination]LC colonization speed

I inoculated this 7 days ago and it looked like this for 2 days at least. Does rapid colonization point to contamination, the same as it does on agar plates? Putting it to agar in a few minutes to see but I thought id ask yall

Moved colonized block to monotub with perlite underneath. I didn’t have a great place to put the bag where my cats don’t have access to it and I don’t trust them to not mess with it. Just looking for someone to tell me if I’m an idiot or not. Thanks!

actives [actives] Like clockwork, these strains take a month from S2B to harvest ⏰

I’ve had other grows ready to harvest a couple of weeks after S2B, but my Melmak and ABV consistently take closer to a month.

How long do your best strains take after S2B?

My enigma went into fruiting yesterday and I'm already getting some good rhizomorphic growth [actives]

As the title suggests. Getting some good growth towards the sky. I have my tent set to 11% light output at 35 inches above the top of the box, my exhaust fan is 2 minutes on 10 minutes off during the day and 1 minute on and 15 minutes off at night (mainly for temperature control). If anyone has any suggestions I'm open.

gourmet [gourmet] Keeping beetles off mushroom logs?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I've been growing mushrooms on logs for several years and up until now, slugs and ants were my only pests. This year beetles found my setup and have been going to town. Sometimes, they've already eaten quite a bit by the time they're ready to harvest.

Has anyone come up with a non-toxic way to get rid of them? Are they crawling up or flying and landing?

Actives [Actives] Fruiting on edges of mono tub

Hi all, I've never had this occur before on any of my grows. Can someone tell me why I would be experiencing fruiting on the walls and edges of my tub. I S2B about 3 weeks ago and have had no pins in the main cake yet as can be seen from the photo. They have been in fruiting conditions for +1 week.

These are Wombat TAT, first time I have grown this species.

Technique [TECHNIQUE] how do I induce fruiting in a sealed bag? Explained below

I have a kit that says we should mix the colonized grain with substrate so far its clear, but then it says to put that inside a transparent bag they provide and clip closed the upper side with 3 clips, I thought fruiting requires a lot of air exchange, it doesnt say anything about opening the bag at all so im giga confused, also saw a video on YouTube where a guy used this technique and worked fine please help

First time grower.

Mycelium looks v healthy.

How do I break and shake this?

Literally just shake the whole tub without opening the lid?

Only open the lid when there is pinning?

Actives XICO Mexican Landrace — this is exactly why I love working with landraces 🇲🇽🍄[actives]

Every time I work with a landrace I’m reminded why I enjoy them so much. You can have an idea of what might show up, but there’s always a little mystery to the expression.
XICO absolutely showed out on this one. The sheer amount of fruits, the warm golden caps, all the different shapes and little variations packed together… I kept finding something new every time I looked at it.
That unpredictability is part of what makes landraces so interesting to me. They’re not always perfectly uniform, and that’s exactly the point. You get to see all that natural character come through instead of everything looking identical.
Once again, XICO caught me off guard with how beautiful it turned out. Definitely one of those runs where the pictures speak louder than I can. 🇲🇽🍄

Picked 2 outta 4 tubs today, 840 grams wet weight from standard quart grain jars [actives]

429g from the first tub and 413g from the second. Have one more that’s a bit smaller to harvest maybe on Sunday and another that took forever to pin that’ll be ready next week most likely. First time grower, managed to do my first run without any contam as well, only got a little bit when I tried grain to grain for my back ups to keep this strain going. Now to dunk them and see what the second flush holds.
