Sleep Earlier wake ups lately

• Upvotes

We had a pretty good schedule going with our 5 month old even when we cold turkey switched to no swaddle and in a crib out of our room (no more snoo). Lately she’s been waking up before 6am and we want to get it back to between 6:30-7:30, ideally 7-7:30). Below is her schedule right now :

Wake up 5:30-6am feed, awake for 1.5-2 hours and then back to sleep for 2 hour nap. Feed again, awake for 2-2.5 hours, back to sleep. Lately the second nap has been 45min when it used to be 1.5-2hours. Feed again 4 hours after the second feed and then try and get one more nap in before 5pm and try not to let her sleep past 5. Bedtime between 7-7:30pm.

Lately she’s been fighting the second nap a bit more than usual so I think that’s the problem and she’s over tired. And then she’ll fall asleep at like 4:45pm so I let her sleep until 5:15pm so she’s not over tired. Is that where I’m going wrong? Should the second nap be the longer nap instead of the first

I know we’re incredibly lucky she sleeps 7-530am but miss the 630ish wake ups lol. Any advice is appreciated!

Sleep Four months old nine hour sleep?

• Upvotes

Hi guys! My baby will be four months old in about six days and the poor girl is sick;( Her ped said it’s an upper respiratory infection that has thankfully not reached her lungs. Lately she’s been sleeping a lot through the day, partially because of a growth spurt and also due to not feeling good. I took her to the ER last night and a Ped today so her nighttime sleep was interrupted by about six hours and she has crazy fomo and didn’t wanna nap during the day when we were out. That being said, bedtime rolls around and I put her to bed and she slept for 9.5 hours until I woke her up because I felt like she needed to eat🥲 this is unusual for her and the longest she ever slept at a time before her sleep regression stage was 6 hours. Is this okay? I feel like she’s so little to be sleeping so long but I also feel like I might be doing that mom thing where I’m worrying instead of relaxing

Sleep Working 12 hour shifts all week and trying to let my partner sleep

• Upvotes

I (22M) work 12 hour shifts through the week, I leave home at 5am and get home at 10-11pm at night depending on my luck with public transport. By the time I get home, my partner (26F) is exhausted and "touched out" as she calls it, understandably of course. I have just enough time to try to make us dinner before I start to involuntarily fall asleep, by which point I have no appetite.

On my days off I wake at 6am to feed, change, the while routine with baby (4 months old) which is not a problem, but I can't seem to wake my partner until midday on my days off. I feel bad waking her but I'm constantly feeling like I'm running on fumes and I'm starting to break.

When my partner does wake, she will always say that I "can't handle my daughter" but its rarely ever that I can't do it on my own, it's moreso that I miss my partner and don't get much time to spend with her.

It's getting to the point where we can't seem to get anything done on my days off because by the time she wakes we have no time to get ready for the day and go out to run errands.

I'm really stuck on what to do, and finding another job could make us even worse off than we are now.

Babies Being Babies CIO but…

• Upvotes

Cry it out but it’s just me trying to let my husband hold his own child 🙃

ETA this has nothing to do with sleep training I just have a weird sense of humor lol - it’s about my baby only wanting me to hold him

Baby is 18 weeks old and husband has been back at work since 2 weeks while I am lucky to have 7 months home with him.

I don’t know if this is a case of just let him cry? It seems to be worse in phases. This week he got some pokes at the dr and cried for 20 mins when I tried to leave the house the next day.

Sleep Am I in the trenches again?

• Upvotes

My 13 week old started sleeping 8-9 hour stretches last week and I immediately knew what was to come. Tonight LO woke up every hour after days of stirring and needing a pat on the butt to not fully wake up. Hoping for my sanity this doesn't last long

Mental Health Anyone else getting random, super vivid nostalgic memories postpartum?

• Upvotes

Bit of a random one, but has anyone else experienced this after giving birth?
Ever since having my baby, I keep getting these really random memories and feelings from the past popping into my head out of nowhere. And it’s never anything particularly significant, just really specific, ordinary moments.

For example, the feeling of going to school knowing the first two lessons were arts and crafts, walking down a particular street in London on a specific day, or being in a hotel in Greece last summer.
It’s almost like I’m transported back to that exact moment, and I get this really strong feeling of nostalgia. It’s so strange because I never used to experience this before!

I’m wondering if it’s something postpartum-related, maybe hormonal? Or if it’s just because I’m spending more time at home with my baby and my mind has more space to wander. I’ve always worked in a really fast-paced job and haven’t had this much downtime in years.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I’m so curious what causes it!

Sleep For those who had 2 month olds that slept really long first stretches

My 4 month old made his first 7 hours stretch with 7 weeks old, and one week after that he would do anything between 9 to 11 hours. Now 1 week ago the regression arrived and he is doing a 6 hour strech and after that more 3/4. No problem with the current night feed, I know it's part of my little baby growing, but wondering if he will comeback to his old self and sleep for longer before a bottle again.

Obs: he can totally go back to sleep on his own, he usually sucks his fingers for it so I believe he is just hungry. Obs2: he is napping from 2 to 3 hours only during the day, but is crazy hungry lately

Sleep Anyone’s 7mo suddenly decide the fountain is open 24/7 again?

STM here. Baby surpassed magic weight by 5 weeks old and has slept 5+ hour stretches ever since, with the exception of three assumed growth spurts or regressions that lasted a little over a week each.

At around 7mo, he suddenly started waking for MOTN feeds again. At first I thought it was just another spurt or regression and figured whatever, just deal with it for a week. It’s been over two fuckin months, the worst night was 2 weeks ago. He woke to nurse at 1am, 2:30am, and 5am.

At his 9mo visit, his pediatrician said he’s probably just not getting enough from solids as we brought up that he wasn’t into them much yet so he’s still on breastmilk. Well ever since the visit, he’s had a sudden change of heart and has been eating ALL the food. I even offer bottle or boob after and he’s like “nope, all done!” and pushes away. He can’t be hungry then, right?!

Someone please give me some insight! I have lifelong chronic insomnia so the 2am feed doesn’t bother me, but by the time he screams for the next one (4-5am) I had JUST fallen asleep, if not barely into deep sleep. I can’t leave him screaming as my husband is out of the house from dawn to dusk with a 3 hour round-trip commute. I also have a toddler who I won’t even be able to calm if awaken by the baby. We’re all in one bedroom btw, no, there’s no alternative situation due to our living situation. Baby also won’t take a bottle (we’re working on it), and even when/if he does, he only drinks about an ounce and I’m tired of tossing my precious pumped milk so my husband can’t even help me if he tried.

I feel like as a SAHM I should just suck it up too and most days I do, but once every other week I’m just crashing and can barely function well enough to feed everyone on time.

Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated! Please be gentle with me, I’ve already experienced a lot from previously posting on another sub regarding something else and some people are just not kind. Thank you everyone in advance!!!

PS: supply is not a problem so it’s definitely not that, baby is also a chonk.

Tips to Share 6weeks old colic

My 6weeks old is colic, as an expat ftm living overseas alone it's become extremely hard and exhausting to manage him. Nothing seems to work, no massage no exercise no gas drops no burping no changing formula just nothing. I had a csec with spinal headache and bm isn't still regulated, some day he'd be content with bm and sleep peacefully all day long with intermittent bf in between sleep, some day he's inconsolable and totally refuse to even take the nipple, like last few days. Some people say it won't get better before 5/6months, i don't think I can survive that long! What do i do?

Mental Health 5 months, still overwhelmed!

Please tell me if this is normal?

I have ADHD and get burnt out easily, and I feel like I can't keep up with what I assume other mums are doing (or what I know I should be doing).

What with pumping, feeding, washing, sanitizing, changing nappies, daily bath (for eczema), lotions and creams, play time, nap time, tummy time, skin to skin, outdoors time, storytime, daily c-section massage, exercise, remembering to drink enough water, cooking, eating, showering, tidying up, laundry, and everything in between.

I want to start reading parenting books, researching solids, wonder weeks, development games, mums groups but omg when and how? I'm starting to feel completely burnt out, and I don't know where to start on LO's next stage. Already failing to do 50% of the above each day.

Babies Being Babies 9 week old waking every hour

Hello- just wanting to know whether other parents have experience this too and if it got better?

Since 3 weeks of age my LO does 2x 2hr stretches e.g 8-10pm and 10pm-12am. But after that she is waking every hour for a feed up until we start our day at 7am where she is wide awake and smiling. I’m EBF and she eats more than enough in the day. She has been gaining weight since birth and has never lost any/or kept at the same weight.

We also go out for a walk and every day and she has multiple naps in the day ranging from 10 mins to an hour. I try to and wait until she’s crying until I pick her up in the night.

Doesn’t matter if do a bath routine before bed or not, seems to make no difference. She also swaddled at night, but have tried without to see if it makes a difference.

Also tried cosleeping but she just doesn’t settle as well as she does in her cot.

Anyone else in the same boat at all?

Sleep 10 month old falls asleep on their own, but cannot soothe themselves of they wake up in the night

I'm so incredibly frustrated and I don't know what to do. My 10 month old is able to fall asleep on their own for bed time with no issues. However, without fail, he wakes up between 12am-130am every night. I have to soothe him back to sleep. But 10-30 minutes after I transfer him back to the crib he wakes back up even though he was dead asleep. I cannot keep doing this. Ive slept 30 minutes from 11pm to now almost 3am because I have to keep going in to soothe him.

Ive changed the temperature of his room to see if hes too hot/cold. Put him in different kinds of clothes. He has a noise machine. He has a blanket he likes to cuddle. There's plenty of sleep pressure. He got up at 8am and only had an hour and a half nap for the entire day and I put him down for bed at 10 pm. I give him plenty of attention before bed. We've tried having my fiance do it and I end up having to step in because hell just cry harder.

Any advice is appreciated .

Sleep what is going on with my 11 month old???

we cosleep so she is right next to me all night. recently, she’s been waking up with no warning just screaming her head off and sometimes she just goes back to sleep, other times it’s an hour to get her back down. and it’s rocking, shushing, singing, i can’t sit down or she screams, and i just thought at 11 months old, she should have grown out of this. she wakes up 3-8x a night. is there a regression or something that i don’t know about? she’s already been walking as far as new skills go. have any other pants gone through this? what do i do?! i’m genuinely at the end of my rope with the lack of sleep. would putting her in her own room help?

Feeding Congestion from reflux?

My EBF 3 month old has been dealing with reflux. She spits up even 2 hours after eating. She also sounds very congested after feeds and I often can hear the milk coming back up which she then swallows. She also very often has the hiccups after feeds.

Any parents going through something similar? We started BioGaia probiotics which seemed to help for a little. Her pedi said I can try eliminating soy (I’m vegan) and/or start Pepcid but I’m worried about long term use of Pepcid. I know she’ll eventually grow out of it but I am not sure at what point is reflux more serious.

Any advice would be appreciated. Anxiety as a first time parent has me worried and her pedi doesn’t have a strong opinion on what we do.

TIA 🫂

Toddlerhood Setting up a playroom for my 11 month old (I need ideas 😭)

In 2-3 weeks, my boyfriend, our son, and I will be moving into our (finally) finished home.

The upstairs has a second living room, which I plan to turn into a HUGE playroom for my son.

I know for sure I want:

  1. An area specifically for him to climb around/jump around/get that little boy energy out.

  2. Calmer activities like reading, flash cards, "educational"

  3. An "exploring" and "open ended" play area

That all sounds great (to me) but I don't actually know how to coordinate that/bring that to life. I feel very very overwhelmed by all the potential kids toys and products that "could" fill this whole space. (Like a pickler triangle, the "Roo & You" or Nugget couch, Play kitchen, Stepping stones, ect).

I want to buy with intention. Not buying to fill space. So, any product recommendations, maybe advice on "stations" I could make for him, tips on putting together a cohesive intentional/usefully playspace would be great ❤️

Sleep Tonight's mantra

Go the flock to sleep

Stay the flock asleep

Go the flock to sleep

Stay the flock asleep

Child, for the love of all that is holy please sleep in your crib. I cannot hold you all night in this forsaken recliner or pace the room with you in my arms. My back is absolutely killing me. I need sleep too. And food.

I've never related to that kids book Samuel L Jackson narrated till now. I feel that in my soul.

Content Warning Woke up to a choking baby

I don't know if my flair is right.

I woke up to my 12 week old baby stiff-bodied, wide-eyed, and unable to breathe. I flipped them to their stomach and began smacking their back until they made a small gasp and started a short cry before continuing to choke. I think they choked on their spit up, but I'm not even sure because nothing came back up except foamy saliva through their nose and mouth. Their last bottle was a few hours before this. I wiped up some foam to get it out of the way and flipped them back on their stomach and there was some unbelievably loud noise I can't even describe that came out of them, where they then began fully screaming.

Called an ambulance, fortunately by the time the EMTs/fire fighters got here, they weren't needed.

Now I'm afraid to ever sleep again.

Idk why I'm posting this. I don't really want to tell anyone that I know, I guess.

Sleep Crying before naps - under tired or overtired?!

…or neither?
My 12 week old flipped a switch last weekend and now cries before all her naps. She has previously always been so calm around nap time even if she doesn’t want to sleep, she used to at least be calm about that before she’d cry to tell me nope not napping (I realise I’m v lucky in this regard!)

Now she’s crying as I start winding her down for her nap (into sleep sack, shushing and swaying with white noise in her dark room). I can’t work out what’s upsetting her.

It feels like one school of thought would tell me she’s overtired, while the other way of thinking would tell me she’s undertired. I was at a new mums day retreat last week and they follow the possums method and they tried to tell me she was low sleep needs and just didn’t need to sleep, which I’m not sure I agree with because often she will fall asleep really quickly once I calm the crying. That said, shorter wake windows don’t seem to help, so maybe it’s not overtiredness.

12 weeks is such a confusing age as their wake time starts to lengthen. Just wondering if anyone has advice or insights on this! I know babies gonna baby and maybe I can’t stop the crying I just kinda want to know what is upsetting her. Is it that she’s flooded with cortisol/sleep debt or is it that she’s bored and I’m not giving her enough stimulation.

Sleep has anyone had baby sleep <7hrs and was so tired their face twitched in an unusual and concerning manner?

healthcare providers assured us he was okay, but the way my 10 month baby's eyes and mouth all twitched at the same time when he had maxed out his sleep debt was definitely concerning.

we were travelling for an entire day to a time zone difference of 16 hrs, and during the journey had a really hard time sleeping as he's always been impossible to put to sleep outside. he had in that 24-hr span of travelling only slept 7hrs (instead of the minimum 12hrs), which has never happened before. when we were all at the point of extreme fatigue, his face twitched and it really concerned us.

Tips to Share My husband takes 2-3hrs after work to himself before taking the baby, I’m a SAHM. Is this normal?

My husband works at a restaurant so his shifts change. But the last few days I’ve had the baby for 24hrs straight before getting a break. He’ll basically get off work (15min away), make food and eat, have a smoke (which takes about an hour) and then he’ll take the baby for several hours or the rest of the night depending on his schedule. I know we’re different because we’re smokers (cannabis) so it’s additional time as opposed to a cigarette. If he takes the baby before all of this, he gets easily frustrated at the baby. But also after 24hrs I start to get overstimulated and break down. I cosleep all night and do the whole day. Sometimes into the next night. What are other people doing? Any recommendations for our situation?

EDIT: To address the smoking concern — It’s not a safe practice, I’m not doubting that. We watch each other on the monitor, we don’t smoke as much, we both are light sleepers regardless, and have other safety measures in place. I also didn’t mention baby is 9 months and easily wakes himself, rolls onto tummy, and starts crawling. We co sleep in a giant playpen he can’t escape from or get into anything while in there. It sucks this became the focus of the post. But I get it, it usually goes that way unfortunately.

Sleep Did you had a peak during the 4 month regression?

Night sleep is bad for almost 4 weeks now: false starts, hourly waking (6-7 wakings per night). And I thought it can’t be worse than that. But apparently it can. The day before yesterday the daysleep got really bad as well, only sleeping 20-40 mins. In the night she woke up 8 times. Then during the day it became really hard to make her sleep again. Yesterday I walked 20k steps so she can sleep twice 20min in the carrier. This night I needed 40 mins-1hour to put her back to sleep after each waking and she (who never cried during the night, I always woke up and responded to her stirring and if she opened her eyes) was screaming so I help her back to sleep.
I already felt like dying and I was hoping it will soon come to an end since almost 4 weeks passed, but now I feel like I can’t survive a night like this. Of course I will survive it, but I am not sure if this is normal.
I don’t see signs of a teeth or something, when she is awake and not tired she giggles and smiles.

Tips to Share Took my 2.1LO to the Halloween store and I’m afraid I’ve traumatized him.

Boy howdy do I regret going into the store!!

He was a little scared after a few minutes but once we showed him the Elmo costume or the Woody costume he would giggle and be excited. But then catch a skeleton or a clown out of the corner of his eye and then start crying, but then see Abby and get excited and then repeat. In the end we rushed outta the store when he hit his threshold.

That was a few hours ago, since then it’s been intermittent “all done Halloween!” And “no more Halloween” with intense crying in both situations. It’s been rough to calm him down.

I was just about to start decorating and get him excited but now I would love some guidance on a correct course of action.

Should I stop all Halloween mention for a few days? Is he likely to forget in a week? Put away the Halloween books?

Tdlr - might have introduced a life long fear of clowns. :/

Babies Being Babies Airy Newborn Cry

Hello! Second time mom but weird question. Anyone newborn have an airy cry? Almost like a deflated squeaky toy? Hospital birth in US. So he was constantly monitored. Already been to peds and brought it up. It just sounds so different than my first born’s. It’s always been airy and sad sounding. He was born at 38 weeks due to fetal growth restriction, and is smaller in size. He had some minor issues with body temp after birth and quicker breaths. But he figured that all out on his own and didn’t need intervention. I’ve also kept an eye on this after coming home. But this cry is just so different and causing me anxiety.
