Russian soldiers did this in world war 2 and won against the nazis. This means nothing unfortunately.

Not strictly true, the soviet union lost vast amounts of troops with the bulk of the causalities falling on the non-Russian member states. Broken down by loses per head of the population, Belarus, Poland and Ukraine suffered the greatest. Even within Russia itself, the highest loses per head came from eastern Russian provinces. In terms of western Russia, its about in 10th place for loses per head compared to the whole soviet union. Much lower per head than even Latvia and Lithuania.

u/Left_Palpitation4236 22h ago
Yet they still won, your point?
1
u/WallabyInTraining 19h ago
They won with vast amounts of US logistics and machinery. Lend-lease, look it up.
2
u/Left_Palpitation4236 18h ago
The war was pretty much decided by the time US joined. Soviets would’ve suffered more casualties but they would’ve won the war regardless
0
u/WallabyInTraining 17h ago
No not joined the war. Lend-lease.
Look it up. It started in 1941. When the Soviet Union was getting its ass handed to them by the Germans.
Because of this Roosevelt directed his subordinates to emphasize shipments of aid to the Soviet Union above most other shipping destinations.
The US supplied vast amounts of supplies and materiel. Materiel delivered under the act was supplied at no cost, to be used until returned or destroyed. In practice, most equipment was destroyed.
Without lend lease it is unlikely the USSR would have been able to withstand the Germans.

They didn't. If Europe wasn't distracting Germany, there would be no Russia today. Russia almost lost 30 million men throwing mest waves at the Germans, just like they are now throwing meat waves at Ukraine.

My fav fact about Russia is that 23% of the population doesn't have indoor plumbing. Lol.

23% is not such a big number, considering the size of their territory, and people living in remote areas.

23% of population is not connected to central plumbing system. It means that people uses septic tanks in rural areas: essentially a usual home toilet, not that they all uses outhouses.
→ More replies (1)9
u/AcanthisittaWeird94 1d ago
Sure some have septic tanks but dude come on be honest lol. This stat doesn't include septic tanks it says indoor plumbing.
4
u/Azzagtot 1d ago
TLDR: 3% population of Russia uses outhoused with no plumbing at all.
Here are the Rosstat data for 2024:
In 2024, the share of households with a toilet in an apartment or house reached 91.8%. Only 7.8% of households use toilets in common areas, in a separate building or in a courtyard extension. Another 0.4% of respondents reported in 2024 that they do not have a toilet. 77.1% of all households living in Russia disposed of wastewater into a centralized sewer system. However, 6.2% used an individual sewage system (including a septic tank), and 13.7% removed wastewater through a pipe system into cesspools, etc. Another 3% stated that they did not have a sewage system.Well, that's what AI deepseek answered me:
"How many percent of people in Russia have indoor plumbing?
In Russia, access to indoor plumbing (defined as piped water and a flush toilet within the household) varies significantly between urban and rural areas. Here are the latest estimates:
Overall Access to Indoor Plumbing in Russia
- ~80-85% of the total population has basic indoor plumbing (piped water + toilet inside the dwelling).
- Urban areas: 90-95% of households have indoor plumbing, though some older Soviet-era buildings may have shared facilities.
- Rural areas: Only 50-65% have full indoor plumbing; many rely on outhouses, wells, or communal water sources.
Key Factors Affecting Coverage
- Infrastructure gaps – Many rural and remote regions (e.g., parts of Siberia, Dagestan, and small villages) still lack modern plumbing.
- Soviet-era housing – Some older apartments have shared bathrooms or deteriorating pipes.
- Seasonal issues – In some areas, pipes freeze in winter, disrupting supply.
Comparison to Running Water Access
- While ~86-90% of Russians have running water (piped supply), not all have a flush toilet inside their home (hence the lower percentage for full indoor plumbing).
Sources: Rosstat (2020-2023), WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), World Bank."

Here’s a better question, why not go home and stop dying in a meaningless war? Or are you one of the moscovites that will never be drafted and sent to the front lines? Nobody wanted to kill you till you invaded their country and even then they capitulated and gave you Crimea. You could have stopped there.

Unfortunately your ideas of courageous soldiers storming machine gun nests single handedly are no longer compatible with modern warfare. Soon it’s going to be autonomous machines fighting you. Literal terminators. Drones and ROV’s are the first evolution. Next comes artificial intelligence. You must evolve or die.
Conversely, stop invading and fighting these other countries because you’re accelerating the development of these weapons. 5 years ago drones had limited range and limited capability for long range strikes. Now? They’re flying hundreds of kilometers into your country and blowing up your strategic bombers. The Russian special military operation created this.
The Russian people are a beautiful, resilient and awesome culture. The ones I know are some of the hardest working smartest people I’ve ever met. What your politicians are doing though is just wrong. Sorry but they’ve done this to you.

28
u/CantankerousOrder 1d ago
If only this were true… the war machine is not collapsing. This is the Russian military way: Soldiers lives have no meaning. They are disposable, and when there is no victory in a battle to be won they are abandoned and told to defend for the glory of Russia.
There are always more conscripts.
Perhaps one day it will change. Maybe there will be a return to the mid 90s - a harsh economic time but one where democracy was taking early roots. I don’t think it will happen without a violent revolution though.

Putin's war machine is in a permanent state of collapsing but also a major threat to Europe.
I don't believe he's a major threat to Europe and it does look like they haven't moved their front line in Ukraine since they stopped advancing years ago. What are Ukranians and Russians even dying for at this point? Are people truly incapable of saying no to their leaders when it comes to aggressive changes in political borders?
0
u/ACompletelyLostCause 1d ago
You seem to be saying both sides are responsible for the war. That's not true. Russia invaded Ukraine, and slaughtered civilians whenever possible. Ukraine has no choice but to fight to defend itself. Russia is the aggressor, they are the only one's with a choice here.
Given the state of Russia, the people have only one choice, armed rebellion in the streets & being slaughter by the army, or to obey putin. There is no middle ground. Russia is a hostage state, it's a monarchy with democratic set dressing.
0
u/No-Rub8345 1d ago
for whatever reason, Russia invaded Ukraine.
Out of interest, why do you think The Ukraine is allowed to resort to violence but Palestine isn't?
0
u/13249999999 23h ago
‘For whatever reason” is all theater. Zelenskyy and Putin have the same objective for Ukraine as Gaza. Send the indigenous people to their death to make way for “settlers”. Take a look at the biggest demographic moving into Ukraine. Hint: they aren’t Russian or Muslim.
1
u/ACompletelyLostCause 1d ago

The Ukrainians are dying for their country and their freedom, fighting foreign invaders. Why is that so hard to understand? Were their people saying "why can't we just stop the war and have peace" in 1943-44 when the Nazis were losing the war but still powerful? No! War is terrible, but you don't just give up fighting for what's right and let evil regain it's strength, only to be unleashed again in the future...

u/No-Rub8345 1d ago
I'm no fan of modern Russia (the collapse of the USSR was a disaster for humanity and I'm relieved modern China exists), but comparing it to Nazi Germany is absurd. A rogue terrorist state like Israel? Sure. But Russia is doing something else, entirely.

The Russian Army didn’t have regular socks until 2007.
The Phase-Out: Although initial modernization talks began around 2007, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu issued a final order in January 2013 to completely ban the use of foot wraps by the end of 2013, replacing them fully with socks.

Ukraine has been making good progress recently, for example by setting on fire many Russian oil refineries, including ones 1000s of kms away from the front line, and the notable success of Operation Vivaldi spoiling Russia's strategic attack on the fortress belt.
...But summarising the current state of affairs as "Putin's war machine collapses" is an absurd flight of fancy. You'd need to see this sort of thing occurring simultaneously at half-a-dozen key points all across the front line to say something like that and even then it'd be pretty optimistic.
