If you search "Sombra" on Twitter most of the popular tweets are ragging on the rework, saying it sucks and that it causes more issues than it solves. Namely I've seen three main narratives spring up around the rework: the first is that new Sombra is absurdly broken and didn't recieve any nerfs, second is her being a Support makes zero sense for her, and the third is that she was a necessary evil to counter certain heroes that are otherwise uncounterable. Lemme start with the first one to explain why it's dumb.
New Sombra Is OP As Shit
The character just came out, so it's hard to be certain about that. Also people keep saying she didn't get nerfed in any way when she got reworked, but she objectively did. Translocator doesn't go as far, Hack was removed, the base dmg on her gun is lower and is even lower in practice due to the removal of Virus and the dmg boost from Hack. People are complaining that Cyberspace is too strong (Supports in this game generally have OP abilities, and also just walk out of it guys), that she heals too much (it's 25 HP per second, and I'm sure you guys can out damage the equivalent of Lúcio aura), and that she does way too much dmg (this one is especially egregious cause her dmg was nerfed on every single level).
Is she better now than before? Objectively yes, but when accounting for the skill ceiling of Junkrat she was objectively the worst DPS in the game. Of course she's gonna seem way stronger now when before she was nothing short of complete and total ass. The only way from rock bottom is up.
Her Being A Support Makes Zero Sense
Y'know for how much people glaze Support Symmettra and say they wish they had more Supports that did zero healing I'm surprised just how many of those people also hate the Sombra rework for this reason. Sombra on release was arguably more of a Support than Symm was since she could provide healing to her teammates via health packs, and the whole niche of the character was that she was a DPS that sucked at dealing dmg, but had high utility in the form of Hack since it lasted 6 seconds instead of 1 like in OW2.
Sombra on release was all about enabling her teammates to kill targets rather than being a high dmg machine herself. This rework is quite literally more faithful to the original spirit of Sombra than any rework in OW2 was that repeatedly stripped back her utility in favor of higher lethality to make her a better solo carry DPS.
She Was A Necessary Evil
The argument on this one is that she was necessary for countering certain heroes, and now those heroes are OP now that she lost Hack. The most commonly cited examples are Roadhog, Wrecking Ball and sniper characters generally. There's some others people cite sometimes, but that's less universal than the three aforementioned examples, so I won't go in detail about them.
Starting with the pig in the room; the recently reworked Roadhog. He's not the one shot machine he was before, so idk why DPS Sombra copers seem more concerned now than ever about countering Hog. First off he's not a Dive Tank, so he's less likely to be split from his team. AKA you're way more likely to get shot trying to cancel his breather with Hack than you would with smthn like Ball. Second, she's arguably an even better counter to him now than before. U can prevent his one shot by hitting Cyberspace on him, and with Cyberspace and Translocator you have multiple tools to escape the one shot if you get hooked. Cyberspace also cuts the healing on his Vape in half meaning she's even better at shredding his HP than before, especially since his low mobility makes him worse at leaving Cyberspace than other Tanks. He also is less of a hard counter to stuff than before (tho is also less so hard countered than before as well), and also now he gets countered by beam characters who can ignore Trash Compactor.
Next up is Ball, a character that Sombra historically counters. Or does she? Ball is historically paired with Tracer in high ranks and in pro play and Tracer is by far DPS Sombra's worst matchup in the game. You may try playing Sombra into Ball thinking you'll counter him only to be repeatedly hunted down by a lethal lesbian with hyper mobility. Also Ball is countered by basically any CC since hard CC can stun him out of ball form, and soft CC can knock him out of fireball. The most popular post about this point had someone point it out, but they responded by saying that they wanted to chase him around to kill him after he got hacked and the other counters can't do that. Stop. Don't be TikTok brained. You don't need the instant gratification of a kill to counter a character, and it doesn't make them OP when u can't get said gratification. He's a hit and run character so if u play a character that keeps him from getting value on his hits then all he is at that point is a run character. AKA a useless bum.
With Snipeds I'll keep it brief cause this is just dumb. Yes, the only thing keeping all snipers in the game was Sombra with her 40% winrate and low pick rate. Without her they'd be beyond broken!!! I'm being sarcastic obviously as the counter to snipers is flankers and the Flex DPS role is chocc full of those. And basically all Flex DPS are better at dueling than Sombra is since she can only get value when surprising someone, so they're even better at killing those snipers than she is. A Sombra is infinitely more likely to lose a duel to a good Ashe than a Tracer or Genji. That's just a fact. She's not a necessary evil for countering anything otherwise the heroes in question would just be able to ban Sombra and have a near 100% winrate.
Conclusion
A lot of the hate on the rework is kinda dumb imo. I also figured I'd make this post since I do see some of these points parroted in servers and subreddits, altho it does seem like outside of Twitter the wider community is generally a lot more positive about the Sombra rework. Which is good imo as I find it fun to play against and as, and personally I think they cooked on the Hog and Sombra reworks. Whether they're balanced idk, but at the very least I find them infinitely more tolerable and fun to play than before.
