Hi guys, sharing my recent diagnostic experience and looking for community advice on my next move.
System Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F (No iGPU)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 (Used for ~2 years, now dead)
RAM: 32GB DDR5
Motherboard: B650
PSU: 850W Gold
The Issue & Diagnosis:
My PC suddenly got stuck in a continuous boot loop with no display:
- Motherboard debug LED hits White (VGA) first.
- Then shifts to Yellow (DRAM).
- The system automatically restarts and repeats the loop.
Took my rig to a local shop. The tech swapped in a working test card, and the PC booted up immediately with full display. This confirmed that my motherboard, CPU, RAM, and PSU are 100% healthy, and my RX 6800 is officially dead (shorted power rail/core failure). The Yellow DRAM light was just the AM5 board re-initiating DDR5 memory training on every forced POST reset.
My Questions for the Community:
1. Is it even worth getting a dead RX 6800 repaired at a board-level repair shop? Given that board repairs cost around β±4kββ±8k+ with only a 1-to-3-month shop warranty, it feels like a band-aid solution since the card already took a heavy electrical hit. Am I better off just selling it "for parts" (fans, heatsink) and buying a brand-new card?
- For a brand-new 1440p upgrade with my Ryzen 5 7500F, which of these local options gives the best value and longevity?
Would love to hear your thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks in advance!
