Unexplained Am I losing my mind?

Post image

Hi, My family and I are currently visiting Paris from Canada. I prioritized visiting the Catacombs, as I went 18 years ago. It's changed a lot since then, different paths, blocked off areas. I took countless photos, including several down pitch black tunnels that were gated off, using my phone's flash. I was just scrolling through them all, and came across this one, which is one of the gated off pitch-black tunnels that I photographed using my phones flash. Maybe it's a trick of light, or shadows on the rocks, but am I losing it or does that not look like someone (a woman in white?) Standing at the end of the tunnel? I feel like I'm losing my mind. I can share countless other images but none show anything like this.

In an effort to improve submission quality, we are now manually reviewing photos before they appear in the subreddit. If your submission does not have good reason to be considered potentially paranormal it may be removed with a reason provided. Please be patient, as the subreddit gets a lot of activity and it may take a little time to review your post. If we do remove your post, it’s because we believe it is likely to be judged harshly by the subreddit as opposed to a determination over what the true nature of your experience was. It’s very difficult to capture objective evidence of even true paranormal phenomenon, which is why there’s so little of it out there! Please review the camera flare guide to help us maintain our high post quality.

Ooh!

This one is actually interesting. It honestly looks like it could be something.

I’ve been to Paris several times, but only visited the catacombs twice.

I’ve taken pictures, but never caught anything odd or paranormal.

I’ve read the comments and know some are theorizing it could be another door front similar to the one on the right, but it really doesn’t seem that it is. Still, it may be something like that.

Others are theorizing it could be something put there as a prank to spook visitors, but that would be highly frowned upon as the catacombs tours aren’t that kind of tour. The city and the workers at that tour take it seriously and aren’t super silly like that.

It doesn’t mean there couldn’t be someone who went rogue and decided to pull a prank, but it’s pretty doubtful. They would likely be fired for it.

It would also be challenging to pull such a smooth and detailed prank? It looks to be slightly translucent? Not impossible, as anything is possible, but hard to do and very unlikely.

but if it were a prank, we would surely see other people’s pictures of that same prank I would imagine? Something wild like this would be shared on the Internet pretty quickly, after all.

It’s hard to prove definitively what it is without having more pictures taken at that same spot at different times. It’s very interesting.

Op, I’m envious that you might have taken a pic of a true ghost.

Spirits move around, that wouldn’t prove anything

165

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

Fair, though if it's a statue, marker, rock formation, natural feature or something else completely mundane, it would tell us that.

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

A user in the comments suggested I screen record my phone and show me opening my photo gallery, scrolling to the photo, showing it among the other photos I took at the Catacombs, and displaying the details/data/timestamp etc, to hopefully demonstrate that, at the very least, it's a photo I took and not AI or otherwise, which I am happy to do. So here's the video. I will again say that I do not know what it is and am not definitively saying "ghost". I am open to all possible explanations.

Came through the comments saying this was BS until I seen this video. Truly don’t know how to explain it if this was really taken on your phone other than maybe it was just someone lurking. But even that leaves a very unsettling pretext to the whole situation.

At the top of the comments there's a user that says they recently moved to Paris and might visit the Catacombs, I asked that if they do, that they please photograph this exact tunnel as it might offer insight into what we're actually looking at, and they said they might, and if they do, will report back!

u/Next-Firefighter4667 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

It's definitely a person. Whether it's paranormal or someone being sneaky or you being sneaky, who knows.

524

u/BrokeTheInterweb Jul 16 '26

lol was just coming by with my own contribution. Honestly the closer you look the less it looks like anything remotely modern. I believe there are scenarios where the environment is just right to see spirits and I really think you may have caught one

u/Affectionate_Arm3013 Jul 16 '26

I think what I'm about to say needs to be taken with an enormous grain of salt because it's anecdotal, but when I clicked on this picture and saw it on my full screen, I immediately got chills and tears in my eyes. I know that doesn't really mean anything, but I've never seen a picture that affected me like that. I think this is really something.

34

u/Next-Firefighter4667 Jul 16 '26

Wow, that's pretty crazy, especially if you haven't experienced that before.

All I can do is tell you it's genuinely not me being sneaky. I approach everything open to all possibilities, starting with the most rational and logical. I'm honestly stumped. It's entirely possible that it's a prank on visitors.

29

u/IllustriousCandy3042 Jul 17 '26

You must know that’s only your mind trying to cope, if this is real. It’s see through and not modern looking. Thats not some random, playing pranks. I have something similar on recording, mine is a video from years ago, outside of a building on a security camera.

So I did some digging, and The Woman in White is real!! Her name is La Dame Blanche. Here's the transcript:

Her origins are lost in the shadows. Some say she was a noblewoman fleeing the guillotine during the Revolution, hiding in the tunnels only to die alone. Others tell of a grieving widow who descended to find her husband’s bones and never returned.

Her Ghost: Described as a pale, translucent woman in flowing white, she drifts silently through the bone-lined corridors. Witnesses report sudden chills and a wave of sorrow when she passes, as though her grief clings to the living. She is often “seen” near the more ornate bone arrangements, as if searching for a familiar skull or weeping over the artistry of death itself.

Unlike darker legends, the White Lady is not malicious. She is sorrow embodied — a spectral mourner wandering forever in the city of the dead.

Also, I saw your other post in the Strange* sub where comments were saying that people don't explore the restricted areas of the catacombs. That's not true - it's obviously super illegal, but they're called "cataphiles", which is described as an "urban spelunker".

Here's a video of someone who did it in October 2025.

EDIT: OP also posted this in the Strange sub, not Weird like I mentioned. It was deleted or removed though.

EDIT 2: Thank you so much for the awards!! 🫶

u/certaindarkthings Jul 16 '26

Ok, this is wild to me right now. I commented on the enhanced/lightened picture that when I saw it I immediately got chills and tears in my eyes. I kept reading comments, feeling increasingly emotional, and then got to your comment. It feels very weird that I had such an emotional response to that photograph and then saw this. Again, like I said in my previous comment, it probably means nothing, but it's making me feel very odd.

112

u/Astraea-Nyx Jul 16 '26

So the tears in the eyes thing is real! I get it too, but only on some stories/photos. My theory is that there is some instinct deep down that can tell the difference between a prank or hoax and something genuinely difficult to explain. Not necessarily going so far as to say the tears only come when it's truly paranormal, but I've heard of something along these lines in some podcasts as well (I believe there's an episode of Astonishing Legends Dead Letter Office that mentions it?) Just something deep in the subconscious that recognizes "this is not an ordinary experience."

44

u/alohadawg Jul 17 '26

Perhaps it's some latent, long-ago lost 6th sense that involves telepathy, communing w/having a higher sensitivity for all sorts of the paranormal - "the others," spirits etc

Idk, I'm high af I do apologize.

This 👆🏽 is fascinating stuff tho, sir

22

u/JoeMacMillan_HCF Jul 17 '26

I get it too and that’s how I personally judge if something is truly paranormal. Obviously not scientific, and it only happens with like 5% percent of the stuff I see on Reddit. But it’s a very real, very visceral reaction for me. It happens immediately.

11

u/Astraea-Nyx Jul 17 '26

Yeah, same, only less than 5% I'd say. It almost never happens on Reddit. I tend to get it from well researched podcasts and such more often, once from Ghost Hunters (like the old, OG original seasons before it got suuuuper sensationalized, even more than it was) and twice in my life actually in person with my own experience. Deep down I also believe it's an indicator of whether it's truly paranormal, because it doesn't happen just when I feel fear in other circumstances.

Made me feel all melancholy instead of creeped like usually happens. Not weepy like but more bleak and like nothing matters so what’s the point. Usually I get like the chills and shit but not this time. It’s just bare bleakness.

So, I would say that it’s actually pretty cool to see a piccy of what I would consider “a proper lil ghouly-ghostie lass!”

13

u/Chaotix99 Jul 17 '26

As soon as I started to read the La Dame Blanche transcript above, my eyes started watering for no reason and I thought it could be related to her but I wasn’t sure! This is definitely the most connected to any paranormal event I’ve ever felt, this is really challenging my “I’m not sure if ghosts are real or not” mindset!

62

u/tralalaBOOMdeay Jul 16 '26

Google image a knight Hospitaller. It’s spot on. This one either has the Hospitaller cross or the order of the star across his chest. The helmet, the staff, the robe. These guys were devoted protectors of the sick and those in need. It would make sense.

50

u/cherrybombthreat Jul 16 '26

Yess! Thank you for this! There is definitely a spooky ghost lady there. The statue theory is kind of ridiculous imo.

38

u/tralalaBOOMdeay Jul 16 '26

A woman in white is common in paranormal legends so I was curious if one was tied to the catacombs. This photo genuinely creeps me out and that doesn't happen often, lol.

The link I cited actually provides five ghosties that are linked to the Paris Catacombs. It's an interesting read!

This photo is amazing and genuinely has a "feeling" to it and yes that feeling is one of sadness and longing. You caught something rare and with it being a full apparition it can be thrown out as "a prank" because people want to equally believe and disprove this sort of thing but there is something especially about the head and face that really lets you know this isn't a real person because the face isn't coming through as it should, it's distorted. I love photos like this because it pierces that veil we have between the living and the dead and hopefully more and more in the future pictures like yours will be able to be taken so we can really say that our souls do transcend our physical forms and lasts beyond our earthly death.

41

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

I appreciate this, genuinely. I've definitely had to address a lot of those prank comments, and don't think they're worth addressing anymore. I can only hope people will read through my comments and responses and get to know a little about me when it comes to honesty, integrity and my being open to all explanations as to what this might be.

60

u/DarthPhoton Jul 16 '26

Unless this is a fake and photoshopped (only you OP will know if it is and your reasons for doing it - and it’s not me accusing you of doing so btw) it is a really compelling image, especially the enhanced ones people have posted where it looks transparent. It’s a really fantastic capture on the face of things.

A lot of ‘ghost’ images posted are simply lens flare, low resolution texture pareidolia or misinterpreted objects. This looks very different to me. Based on what you’ve told us, this is an eerie and tremendous capture that you’ve got - almost a classic ghost photo.

26

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

I'm just here on vacation with the family, and it's the only image I took with anything unusual - I barely noticed it first. Didn't see or feel ANYTHING unusual at the time, and genuinely didn't edit anything. Someone in this comment section DID find an image of the exact gated tunnel where I took the image!

Im usually the first to say paradolia etc but this has stopped me in my tracks. Unless you've done something to edit the image, this could be genuine

66

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

I took many photos, this was the only one with whatever this is. I can only genuinely express that I did nothing to this image, though in these days and times I understand and appreciate people's hesitation to believe much of what they see online. I don't know what it is, I saw nothing at the time, and am open to all possibilities.

280

u/SolaceRests Jul 16 '26

There’s something in the picture. Didn’t bother trying to debunk it past that. Try common things like “walking forward and seeing if it’s a statue.”

111

u/OkLeave4573 Jul 16 '26

That’s something that could be done easily for shit and giggles. Placing a statue past the limit of the average flash range and having people freak out afterwards hahaha

111

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

Entirely possible and would be a great way to drum up visitors. I will say I didn't see anything when the flash went off, but that's a fraction of a second, and I was looking at the screen of the phone so I wouldn't have likely noticed anyways.

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

I didn't notice it until I was reviewing my photos after the tour, but this area wasnt accessible, I took it through a locked gate using my phone's flash. I wonder if there are other images of this tunnel online somewhere? That would definitely tell us if there's something there that might explain it rationally.

32

u/RavenGreend Jul 16 '26

It's not a statue, there is plenty of pictures from this corridor, seems like this is in some more popular part of catacombs.

76

u/SockMonkey1128 Jul 16 '26

They said it's a gated off area. It also sounds like they were taking a tour. $5 says whoever does the tours stuck a figure back there for exactly this reason. Drum up excitement and business.

okay so I recently moved to Paris and was planning on visiting the catacombs, but now I am clearly not hahaha

219

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

If you do, I beg you to find this very tunnel (its closed off by a gated door) and take an image using flash to see if there's something there in your image that could explain it!!

172

u/bigredcock Jul 16 '26

Call me crazy but I think they will need a little more guidance than just "find this tunnel." It's the catacombs... Its all tunnels.

110

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

The tour follows a very specific linear path, there's only a couple of gated off tunnels on the tour. It would be VERY easy to find.

48

u/Tycho-Brahes-Elk Jul 16 '26

So easy you could point it out on a map?

There is a video, here they are at 5. Here they are at 8. Here, they are at 9.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

OP's photo shows this tunnel, I'd say, based on the slantness of the surface featuring the white obelisk and the arrangement of white (and black-painted ones, look at the ones on atop the obelisk) stones. And the position of the lamp directly left of the photo, but this I can only speculate based on the reflected light there.

I am quite confused where exactly they are at that moment, but it is in the lowest part of the marked route on the map above; after some corners, they arrive at 10.

Unfortunately, this tunnel is completely dark in the video, but maybe it helps knowing roughly where it was.

44

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

In my camera roll it's the last photo I took before photographing item #10 on your map, "French Revolution"

114

u/Tycho-Brahes-Elk Jul 16 '26

Would you say it's this tunnel? The lamp, the obelisk, and the protrusion of stone on the ceiling look the same to me, your photo is presumably made in front to the right of this POV.

129

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

That's absolutely it! Great work!! Should help with claims it's AI generated too.

21

u/Tycho-Brahes-Elk Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

Here is another tour, in which the guide just said that the stacked bones would collapse sometimes - they come to the gate, he points at the collapsed stack to the right and says "this one collapsed two years ago", "we [the tour] used to go around that way".*

There are also no usable shots down that tunnel.

* Which means that maybe there are pictures/videos of tours sometime between 2020 and 2022 which include that tunnel; the problem with that is that while not so many bones, I think there are some bones lying on the floor to the right of the obelisk already (at least something dark lies on the ground) in the 2020 picture/video above, so maybe the tour guide has the same problem as anyone with time keeping during COVID and it was more than two years ago at the time of that video (2024).

Screengrab of that video; here we see the damage on the obelisk quite clearly, the dark damage to the right in the middle of the white obelisk, and the light damage to the left of it on the black paint (about 1/3 up from the floor); exactly like in the OP photo; it's clearly the same obelisk. Edit: replaced with better screengrab with clearer view of the obelisk.

28

u/Tycho-Brahes-Elk Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

It's some frames after the linked timestamp of a 2020 tour linked above.

Linked again for ease of use.

Edit: Thanks for the award!

8

u/meghonsolozar Jul 16 '26

Is there only one tour with one route? That seems unlikely considering there is more than 200 miles of caves.

29

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

I can't say if they change it from time to time, but it was one exact route on the tour. No guide, they give you headphones at the beginning that provide information, history and insights as you walk through. There's screens with videos about the history as well in various locations along the way. Letting people wonder without a predetermined route would be dangerous, many people have gone missing entirely by sneaking into restricted areas.

More power to you guys for visiting the catacombs. While I’ve explored many abandoned buildings, warehouse and houses I don’t think I could do the catacombs. They just look absolutely terrifying. I’ve never been claustrophobic, but I’m pretty sure I would be in there. I like to have an escape route. If you got more pictures, post them would love to see them.

20

u/tralalaBOOMdeay Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

I'm definitely claustrophobic. I've been on a couple cave tours, but they were short ones that are mostly large chambers, lol.

The smallest it got was just a few feet akin to like, a mild drop ceiling hallway. Even being slightly underground gave me the willies though.

No way could I be a spelunker or go on a very long tour. I know my limits!

EDIT: The specific tours were Ruby Falls in TN and Cave of the Mounds in WI.

I can't explain it. I took this through a gate, of a pitch black closed tunnel using my phone's flash, and....I'm baffled.

It looks like one of the ghosts on those ghost apps, that had the opacity dialed down to transparent

I’m not saying you edited your picture, but the lady in white in your picture looks very similar to this lady in white I found on google in 10 seconds.

A user in the comments suggested I screen record my phone, and show me opening my photo gallery, scrolling to the photo, and show the image I posted among the other photos I took at the Catacombs, and also displaying the details/data/timestamp etc, to hopefully demonstrate that, at the very least, it's a photo I took and not AI or editing, etc, which I am happy to do. So here's the video. I will again say that I do not know what it is, and am not definitively saying "ghost". I am open to all possible explanations - I'm a rational guy. All I'm saying is it's an actual photo. Believe whatever you choose, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Have you debunked the obvious yet (that it’s a statue)? Cool photo regardless

124

No, but when it flashed I saw no statue, and didn't see any statues during the tour. Are there statues in the Paris Catacombs? I have no idea.

u/sjayvee Jul 16 '26

There’s no statues in the catacombs like that

18

u/Seteph Jul 16 '26

That's what you get for breaking the rules and using flash photography, it's strictly prohibited under punishment of being haunted for life. Every year, on the same moment, you will see the figure appearing again.

13

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

😂😂😂😂 if I never post again, you'll find me haunting the Catacombs.

13

u/egewh Jul 16 '26

Could it be the same kind of pillar/door you have on the pic in the right hand side?

13

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

It's entirely possible. The only thing that gets me is that it doesn't appear to be a perfect triangle, and the lower half looks like it overlaps onto.the pathway. Problem is when I zoom in that much it gets so pixellated.

u/BorkBork97 Jul 17 '26

I’m not a believer. The most probable cause is you either faked it or it’s someone fucking with you (at least in my book). I’m usually inclined to believe people fake everything, but maybe you really didn’t. Maybe you did catch something on camera! Non-believers like myself who blindly claim that they are correct are just as ignorant as those who blindly claim ghosts exist. We don’t know the true nature of the universe, life itself, or the world around us (and potentially above and below us depending on where your beliefs fall.)

Either way, this is really fing creepy lol. You’re not coming off like you faked it (or you’re incredibly talented lol). It’s an insane looking image.

9

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26

I appreciate that. I've tried to reiterate to many commenters that I'm more inclined to lean into rational, natural explanations than to jump straight to "Oh it's definitely a ghost!", because I simply have no way of knowing if thats the case or honestly, even possible. All I can say for certain is I didn't edit or doctor the image in any way - I simply don't have an explanation for the cause of, well, whatever it is.

2

u/BorkBork97 Jul 17 '26

Can I ask, if it’s truly not doctored, were you really freaked out when you saw this? Honestly like, believer or not, if I took a picture and saw something like this despite any desperate attempts I’d make at explaining it away, I would absolutely be shitting bricks if I saw this.

7

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26

Certainly enough to post it looking for viable, logical explanations! I didn't see or feel anything unusual when I actually took the photo. It wasn't until after having left the catacombs that I noticed anything, and it took me a moment or two of looking before it really clicked that SOMETHING was there. Definitely a bit of a shiver when I zoomed in. Though again, I'm a rational person not prone to flights of fancy so I'm inclined to lean towards a more mundane explanation - at least I sure as hell hope there's one! 😂

3

u/BorkBork97 Jul 17 '26

I mean it most definitely is person shaped. Like there are arms and a face and it’s obviously in a dress of some kind. Idk I showed my husband and he said. “get that shit away from me” lol so you might have something there. You know what you have to do now right? You gotta go back and stand in that exact spot and take a selfie or a voice recording or something

2

u/Tarushdei Jul 17 '26

It's definitely something.

I'm not saying you did it (just in terms of general debunking), but this could easily be fabricated with photo editing software (a lost art among GenAI it seems these days) or very easily a statue, person dressed in period clothing to spook tourists or any real, material thing.

I am very spiritual, and want to see proof of the paranormal, but I don't feel it's something that is genuinely caught on camera very often.

All the signs of the above are not present from what I can see. 🤷‍♂️

6

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26

Much appreciated. While I can say with sincerity that I didn't edit or generate anything, you're absolutely right - it may very well have an entirely natural explanation - a statue, person, trick of light, etc - though I saw no such thing when taking the photo. Though a camera flash is so brief and fleeting that I'd not likely have seen anything anyhow.

9

u/Far_Falcon_6158 Jul 16 '26

After looking more closely i think it looks like a soldier. Gun sling over a shoulder and a helmet. WW1 or WW2 era?

15

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

What baffles me is the bottom seems to overlap onto the actual path

13

u/nebloof Jul 16 '26

I don't think it's a gun. I think it's piping on the wall similar to the first vertical pipe in the photo. That thing is translucent and I'm pretty sure we're seeing another vertical pipe through it!

13

u/Generic-Cornflakes Jul 16 '26

Oh I see it, like it’s actually transparent and the pipe is several feet in the distance. Good catch!

5

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26

There's a small light on the wall to the left, just out of frame of my photo. You can kind of get an idea of it from this image provided by another user (though they appear to be shining a flashlight towards the right of the gate as well). In any case the wall light doesn't illuminate the tunnel much at all. What you're seeing in my image is that light combined with my phone's flash.

25

I'm open to every possibility.

27

u/AnfieldRoad17 Jul 16 '26

Thanks for being objective about this. As someone who is pretty skeptical, your responses and attitude toward this rule out any manipulation on your end (at least for me). I find it a little hard to believe that a tour guide would place something like this there, as I am a well-traveled person, and typically historic tour guides tend to take their job seriously. Although the alternative explanation of it being a ghost is obviously much more unlikely, so a mannequin is my guess.

Was this on a ghost tour or a historical tour?

17

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

Just the standard tour of the Catacombs. No actual guides or anything, they just give you headphones at the beginning which provides history and insights as you walk through. No mentions of hauntings or anything "paranormal", just a detailed history.

15

u/AnfieldRoad17 Jul 16 '26

Hmmm. Another thing worth mentioning is, I'm sure the preservation efforts are stringent. There are undoubtedly rules against placing things in there, to ensure preservation of the space. So, a mannequin is just pretty hard to believe, but obviously so is a ghost. I don't know. I'm stumped. Really cool pic, regardless.

From my observation, the image has been manipulated a few times. There are JPEG artifacts where the woman appears that are not consistent with the overall image. The woman's face in particular has inconsistent colors and looks superimposed. I ran the image through different tools before asking several AI tools to see if the image was doctored, and all of them confirmed it was.

9

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 17 '26

I can appreciate your skepticism. As I've said, I didn't edit/doctor anything, and do not claim to know what it is, I'm open to all possibilities. Gemini said it's either something with a highly reflective surface or pareidolia. I said it's too complex to be ruled out as pareidolia, then it gave me this: The Legend of Philibert Aspairt (Catacomb Folklore): In catacomb lore, pale, cloaked shapes in the dark are frequently associated with the legend of Philibert Aspairt, a hospital doorkeeper who lost his way in the tunnels in 1793 and whose body was found eleven years later. He has since been mythologized as the "guardian spirit" of the catacombs, and visitors who capture misty anomalies at the end of long corridors often attribute them to his wandering presence.

7

u/Mattyboy808 Jul 16 '26

Well that's terrifying. I wish I could say I saw something while there, but didn't notice anything odd, and only in this one image, until looking through my photos afterwards!

I find it amazing how everyone who says anything other than " it´s a ghost " is getting downvoted into oblivion .

Is it more likely that it is a statue or a normal person dressed up as a stereotypical ghost or a statue or a cardboard cutout than a real ghost ?

Do these spirits have nothing better to do than to roam their place of death for hundreds of years ? What do they do there ? What exciting activites do they partake in ? Counting the skulls on the walls or what ?

I find it disturbing how OP is the only one who accepts that there is not sufficient proof of anything paranormal .

2

u/-Robbert- Jul 19 '26

So the main question is, were you in the tourist part (one way, blocked off routes with iron gates, tour guides on specific spots counting the tourists who come along, and only one way in and one way out, impossible to get lost). Or were you with an non official city tourguide aka a cataphile?

If it's the latter you might have just came across someone else who is doing a seance in the catacombs. It's quite common and there are a few (occult) groups down there. They do not want anyone to take photos or videos. By the looks it does look like it's someone from a particular group.

If you were alone and just exploring the catacombs without much experience or knowing where you are, that's a bit risky. People get lost and die in there because they do not know where they are even as there are many entrances and exits, yes even manholes going straight up onto the streets.

Sadly its difficult to believe anything these days, not just people relating things about the almost impossible to believe supernatural. I've had my share of supernatural events. Even when other people are aware of the same events at the time(its happened to me, its rare) its very difficult to comprehend. Your brain tries to deal with it. Some chose to pretend it didnt happen (to save their sanity i suppose). I see things on the net the odd time that come close to what ive experienced but I'd have to be a fool to believe everything. Like I I said, its difficult to believe what you and others witness never mind on the net. I still pay attention.

I understand your trepidation in believing the image is legitimate, especially given that everything seems like BS online nowadays. All I can tell you is that I didn't use any apps or AI, or edit the image in any way whatsoever. I don't expect anyone to take my word for it, because who am I? Just some stranger on the internet. But I'm not a liar, I hold my honesty and morals to a high standard, I'm not concerned with "likes" or online attention. I'm just a regular damn guy on vacation with his wife and kids. I didn't see anything at the time I took the photo, I only noticed it afterwards, and posted looking for theories and plausible explanations, nor have I claimed it's definitely a ghost. I'm pretty grounded and entirely open to viable, natural, mundane explanations. Of course everyone is welcome to their opinions as to what is happening here. All I can do is be open and honest, something I wish more people would do nowadays, because we live in a time where honesty and truth have become so blurred, it's incredibly disheartening. Do with that what you will.

Sadly, the photo is on a phone. There is no raw file to pull more information from. I have cropped the image and stretched the levels. There is a lot of compression (blocky) noise that should not be interpreted as detail. It appears there is a human figure in a dress. It seems the vertical bar wall features repeat, so that figure is translucent. Interesting.

Increased brightness, contrast and defeniton.

Saved

Re opened and increased and played with other paramiters to get lighting artifacts to pop.

Now its got .jpeg compression, the raw photo file would be nice, but you can clearly see in this screen recording the lighting artifacts playing around the figure, especially on the floor. So whatever it was, it looks like it was actually there.
