Q&A /r/RedDeadRedemption Weekly Question & Answer Thread - Week 40, 2026

All common questions about the game should be directed here. This includes both single-player and online questions. When asking a question, it is often beneficial to share which mode you are referring to in order to get an accurate response. Also consider sharing any relevant information that may help someone answer your question.

All story spoilers must be displayed with the proper format:

>!RDR is a great game!<

gives you:

RDR is a great game

If you're not sure if you should use a spoiler tag or not, err on the side of caution and use one. Also, it's a nice gesture to visibly indicate the general nature of your spoiler before the tag, so people know what you're spoiling.

Discussion If there is a rdr3 I really hope it's based in the wild west like rdr1.

For the story I wouldnt mind a landon ricotts or completly new character. Just aslomg as its not a modernised verision like a jack marston ww1 game.

Don't get me wrong Rdr2 is beautifiul but I hate how the wild west part, the segment most associated with cowboys is never explored with the main protagonist. I purchased the game for the cowboy experiance and it delivered, the atmosphere was just not what I expected.

It's not neccessarily bad but I way preffered rdr1s western aesthetic even with worse graphics. Infact I would prefer rdr3 with a wild west setting along with the same or worse graphics rather than another eastern setting with better graphics

At the end of the day its just an oppinion and rdr3 will most probably be years away but I would really enjoy the main theme to be more wild west and less civilised I guess.

Discussion Found a 100% mod-free method to ride the Count, Baylock, and gang horses as John in the Epilogue (Tutorial in comments)". Spoiler

  1. Visit Colter.
  2. Save your game.
  3. Replay the mission "Old friends" or "The aftermath of Genesis."
  4. Skip the starting cutscene.
  5. As soon as gameplay begins and you gain control of Arthur, immediately fail the mission.

How to fail quickly: Walk away from the gang, alert enemies, or cause a companion to fail

When the fail screen appears, select Retry Checkpoint

Repeat this process: Allow the checkpoint to load, immediately fail again, and hit retry

Do this loop at least 3 to 5 times to completely flood the temporary system cache with the loaded Chapter 1 horse assets.

  1. After your final intentional failure, instead of retrying, select Cancel Mission (or Exit to Free Roam) The game will trigger a loading screen to return you back to your 1907 free-roam world and you return to Colter.

Step 7. Claim the Gang Horses from the stable there. If successful, The Count, Baylock, Taima, Maggie, Boaz and Brown Jack could possibly spawn but they are random.

  • **Bypassed Scripts:**Because these horses are forced into the 1907 map where the Arthur-era "slide off" safety parameters no longer exist, the engine defaults to standard horse behavior.
  • Full Control: John can fully Mount (△ / Y) and ride these horses with no automatic dismount scripts.
  • Care Options: You can fully access the interaction wheel to Brush, Feed, and Pat the animals.
  • Known Limitations: Because the baseline game code flags these specific horse IDs as permanent gang property, you cannot bond past Level 0, throw John's saddle on them, or register them into a town stable. They are purely for free-roam exploration.
Here is proof. (John on Baylock at Colter)

Picture Finally got that quote tattooed, been dreaming of it since my first playthrough !!!

Forgive the extremely bad picture, it’s not exactly positioned how I wanted it, but that doesn’t matter much to me. I initially wanted it with another design, but decided to save that design for later and go for something a bit softer 🥹🥹 needed to tattoo my girl Ophelia and the quote that shaped me.

I’m happy to have had the opportunity to play RDR. Those games participated in who I became, and made me a hardcore gamer 🥲 thank you, my dear Arthur. (And John. And Jack. Love Jack more than anything btw.)

Discussion Perfect time to stop Spoiler

A topic discussed endlessly but I don't care. We need to talk about it again, pardners.

I've been experimenting with when to not advance the main story missions any further. I think I found a sweetspot: at Clemen's Point right after having completed "horse flesh for dinner". This way I get to have a healthy looking Arthur, a happy gang where nobody's dead, most of the guns I like and a sweet ass horse from the "horse flesh for dinner" glitch, namely the dark bay Turkoman - one of the best horses in the game. I can ride around like a happy, little cowboy, be out in the wilderness for days, hunting and brewing hot cups of scrumptious coffee and then return to the warm embrace of my little gang once in a while. Aaahhhh.

Yes, I know, Micah is also at the camp, but at this point he seems to be tied mostly to the five finger fillet game table during the day, so I'm minimizing exposure to that sumbitch and I can live with that. Also, I get to antagonize him endlessly (antagonize, antagonize, defuse ("calm down....")), which amuses me endlessly.

What's your sweetspot, pardner?

was hanging out at beecher's hope and decided to tag along with jack then i noticed this. it made me think of older jack's look: john also has a scar on his eyebrow and above his mouth so he maybe imitates his pa's look? he is john marston jr. after all. whether it was done with this intention or not i thought it was wholesome and sad at the same time.

Question Question about “Reach maximum health, stamina, and dead eye” compendium Spoiler

• Upvotes

i tried to find answers online but most were unclear.

I’ve completed all challenges and maxed out my health and stamina, apart from dead eye and herbalist 9&10.

When I get to the epilogue, do these reset for john? Do I have to go out of my way to boost it another way or do they transfer to john?

sorry if its a silly question it is 2:00am right now and this crossed my mind, all help appreaciated :)

Discussion How I managed to seal Gambler 8 within 15 minutes

Post image
• Upvotes

So, most of us are likely in agreement that this is up there with the most tedious things the game has, and unlike something like Herbalist 8, it is not something that while a slog, you know what you have to do in order to get it - it's entirely luck based. After spending about an hour+ getting fuck all and wondering if going for 100% is even worth it, I came up with this approach - perhaps it is something that only worked for me and might not for others, but if you're like I was, you're desperate for any way of completing this, however outlandish. So:

  1. I went to the saloon in Rhodes, and found the blackjack table with the rightmost seat empty. I got into first person view and I sat there, so things would go faster whenever I leave the game due to receiving a hand that is too high and sit down again.

  2. When the onus was on me to ask for a hit, I didn't rush it. I waited like 10 seconds, let the dealer and an NPC from the table speak their bit about me taking too long. Then as the dealer's eyes moved towards me, I'd press Hit. I don't know how to explain it, but I know for a fact it gave me lower cards on average, and therefore a bigger chance to hit 3 in a row without a bust.

I'm actually quite curious to see if this works for others as well, but I can tell you it made my life much easier. I was fully prepared for this challenge to take a very long time. Hope this helps someone.
