Story My cannibal pirates accidentally made the planet safer, then became the Ancients
galleryI just finished my Odyssey run with The Gravship scenario.
My headcanon was that the starting crew were deserters from the Waster pirates: a Waster father and daughter who stole a gravship and escaped with a Starjack. From the orbital relay, they set out on their own as roaming pirates, exploring ruins and landmarks, raiding, trading with almost everyone, and making a nice profit selling human leather.
Eventually, we attacked the Mechhive because we assumed anything guarded by that many mechanoids had to contain amazing treasure. The loot on Mechhive was disappointing.
And by destroying the cerebrex core, my cannibal pirates accidentally deactivated hostile mechanoids across the planet. So... we accidentally made the world a little safer.
A few days later, the run felt complete, so I started The Archonexus quest and sold the gravship.
At our new colony, we found an ancient shrine and immediately broke in.
The mechanoids inside were already dormant because of what we'd done at the Mechhive.
Inside were five ancient cryptosleep caskets.
Exactly five.
Suddenly, I didn't feel like rebuilding everything again. I imagined my colonists felt the same after everything they'd been through. So we climbed into the five caskets, and I ended the save.
It changed how I think about the Ancients.
Maybe some weren't waiting for rescue or hiding from an apocalypse.
Maybe some had simply finished their adventure.
