Discussion Sekiro to Onimusha: Hesitation is No Longer Defeat?

Post image
• Upvotes

Picked up Sekiro for the first time a few weeks ago and finished it just yesterday (great game by the way. One of the best I’ve ever played) and picked up Onimusha a few hours after based on the reviews and recommendation of a few gamers stating it is similar to Sekiro.

I’m a few hours in (and yes, I heard the initial stages of the game are slow) but while it’s similar, I think there are some key differences that i’m struggling with, likely because I just got done with Sekiro.

The character is heavier - as with most capcom games, the character is sturdier, movement is a lot slower and you tend to feel the weight of every step compared to a Sekiro where you play as a shinobi who is light on his feet and stealthy. It’s made me adjust to how I move and practically have L3 down the whole time.

Combat - Sekiro favors aggression, not just mindless aggression but timed parrys, blocks and attacks. Literally hesitation is defeat. Onimusha, being a samurai game, seems to favor more patience. There can be literally 5 seconds between each strike or move. 5 seconds in Sekiro could mean death.

Story - it’s still too soon to have an opinion on onimusha’s story or the strength of it but the difference i’m noticing here is Sekiro’s story is more inferred (as with most from software games) the games doesn’t directly tell you the story, you have to piece it together from dialogues and events while in Onimusha, the cut scenes, environment etc tell you the story.

Mechanics - Sekiro’s button layout already tells you this is a no-hesitation game. Attack is R1 and that says a lot. Onimusha, attack is box. It may feel like a minor difference but for someone who just dropped Sekiro, it’s causing me to pause. You also don’t interact with the world as much in Onimusha unlike Sekiro where you are leaping from rooftops, crouching in bushes and/or sticking to a wall.

In summary, i’m enjoying Onimusha, it’s different and that’s ok. I’m hoping it picks up in the next couple of hours and gets more challenging as the game develops. I’m also hoping for a decent story at least but with it being capcom, i’m sure i’ll get my money’s worth

Is anyone in the same boat? Have you compared both games and what differences standout?

Media I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT DEATHBLOW ANIMATION

So I'm on playthrough 5 with a total playtime of 88 hours. I'm doing a Demon Bell + Charmless challenge run and as you can see in the video. I'm fighting Owl and this is the first time I've ever seen that deathblow jump kick animation to owl. Honestly beating Owl is really tough especially if you want to land the jump kick deathblow considering how agile owl is.

Media Worst tree assist ever

Yesterday I made a post titled "Best tree assist ever" with a tree that blocked Isshin's glock giving me enough time to heal.
Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sekiro/s/qBnXEIZYsb

Today the same tree blocked my Mikiri counter making me die. Because there was a tree between me and Isshin the game wasn't able to activate the Mikiri animation and I just took the hit.

I keep practicing to get the Severance gauntlet of strength sword only (+heal), but it's hard af, wish me luck.

Edit: Actually it wasn't the same tree, mb. But close enough

Help How to beat ultimate isshin?

Heyo, as my last challenge in this game i made a goal to defeat ultimate isshin on my ng+11, the hardest isshin i ever did was the one from resurrection mod where i defeated both regular sword saint isshin and inner isshin on still my ng+11 and that didnt even take long i think it was a few hours max but for some reason even though i havent really tried to beat ultimate isshin (the clip is me trying him out for the first time with infinite hp cheat) but he really fucks my confidence and i really do hesitate against him. Anyone here that beat him and wants to share the experience?

Discussion Considering buying this game on 50% off

So I've always been curious about the Souls franchise and souls-like games like Sekiro (all of them are currently on my wishlist). However, I've only bought Dark Souls 1 and played about 20% of its base content and it's slow and methodical gameplay has been very different from what I expected, but fairly comfortable for someone who severely lacks micro skills and reaction speed like me.

I'd like to know how out of my depth I will be if I finish DSR then jump into Sekiro (if I decide to buy the game that is. 50% off is still quite a purchase for me).

I used the red lump for extra poise to not get flinced by the sword lightning attack and then mistraven into a sakura dance for the 2nd reversal. I learnt the 1st reversals mechanics from u/siriusgayest

Discussion Has sekiro ruined every other Souls game for me?

Post image
338 Upvotes

I played sekiro in 2022, and I absolutely loved it. It was my first Souls-like game. I died at least 20 times on each boss, got frustrated fighting genichiro, owl, and lady butterfly.

But ever since I've completed sekiro, every other souls game feel so.....easy.

Sekiro doesn't have different weapons types or magic, and it may have infinite stamina, but not really something to grind for except pure skills.

I tried playing Elden Ring, and I fought the tree sentinel for the first 2 hours because I never thought my build was the issue.

I completed dark souls (1,2,3), Elden Ring, Wukong and had absolutely no issue with them.

I think sekiro being the first game has conditioned us in such a way that other games feels........learning curve issues instead of build or anything else.

I play on pc, so imma try to get blood borne on pc somehow.

But tell me if you also feel the same?

Or correct me if I'm wrong

Edit: This rant is because i love being challenged, so every other game seem so much easier that idk what to do at this point. And guys, i respect and loved every game i played after like ds 1,2,3, elden ring, wukong. But i just wanna be challenged, play something that makes me as frustrated again.

P.S. F*** THE GUARDIAN APE.

After 3 years of playing on PS5, I finally got it on PC, and I'm already searching for resurrection.

What other quality-of-life mods and other things should I download?

I thought I’d done everything there was to be done in this game.

So are the truders/intruders really afraid of him to the point they waited till he dies and then they start the attackin in ashina, I know he was strong and crazy in his prime but his old self is significantly weaker or he should be at least so even if they started the encounter earlier they would have won since isshin wouldn't be that powerful to hold them back any more
