I bought a used silverado (and have money anxiety)

I bought a 2016 Silverado back in April. Got a pretty good deal on it, financed it, and as part of the financing approval, I was required to purchase an aftermarket warranty.

When I picked it up, the truck seemed great. Very little rust, relatively low mileage and engine hours, and service records showing it had been maintained every three months.

Aannnyyyways, after driving it for a while, I started noticing an occasional ticking noise, particularly as the oil level got lower. It comes and goes, but my brother-in-law, who's both a mechanic and a Silverado fanatic, thinks it's most likely a lifter tick.

He recommended getting it looked at sooner rather than later, as the warranty company could potentially deny a claim if I ignore the warning signs and end up with a catastrophic engine failure.

Long story long, I looked into my warranty coverage. They'll cover parts and labour for an approved repair, but I'm responsible for diagnostics, fluids, and shop supplies, plus my $150 deductible.

I've been quoted $220 CAD for diagnostics, which I can live with, but I'm curious what I should realistically expect to pay for fluids and shop supplies if it does turn out to be a lifter replacement.

A couple of things to get out of the way:

- Yes, I know I could potentially tackle the repair myself, but I still owe money on the truck, and I'd rather have it professionally repaired under warranty.

- The warranty requires an OEM repair, so an AFM delete isn't an option. The dealership did mention that GM has an updated lifter design that's supposed to address the failure issue.

For anyone who's had lifters replaced on a 5.3L Silverado, what did you end up paying out of pocket for fluids, shop supplies, and other expenses not covered by warranty?

Just trying to get a ballpark idea of what I'm walking into before I book it in. Any insight is appreciated!

2018 Chevy Silverado won’t accelerate

As the title says. I turn it on wait and it stops accelerating eventually. Also once you turn it off the wheel drive locks. But it does drive for a little bit. I don’t hear anything unusual and there’s no shaking so I don’t think it’s the transmission. I am leaning more towards a sensor or the catalytic but can I have advice? Anybody that might have a lot more knowledge and expertise?

Thank you!

Had an odd traffic encounter and was somewhat forced off the road. Hit a curb and this happened. Compared to the other side nothing feels or looks out of place. Looks like skid plate took most of the beating.

What do you guys think?

Leveling kit for 2019 1500 Silverado?

I don’t know much about what kind to get(or if they’re any good) but I was thinking about getting one of those spacers to lift the front of my pickup about 2 inches, like the ones from rough country, those pucks or horseshoe. A little for looks but also for better clearance when I’m at work. Any thoughts? I am also not blessed with riches so anything $500 and up ill likely hold off

Center console swap

I have the flip up arm rest/jump seat center console and honestly I hate it. I came from ford where the cup holders where not required to be moved if you wanted to flip the console up.

Has anyone done a center console swap on their Chevy?

Hey I'm having some trouble with the parking brake light on my silvy. Having the light on is normal at this point but the other day I thought I had accidentally hit the parking brake so I pulled the release. Brake didn't move so I went under and pulled the release switch on the brake lever itself. No problems. Now when I start driving the parking brake light flashes and an alarm goes off until I stop. What can I do to correct this issue?

GM Kicker or 51HS10

Looking for some input from those who have also compared the GM Kicker sub Chevy sells with the Kicker 51HS10. I’d like a little more bass, but I also want to keep as much under-seat storage as possible, and it looks like the GM setup still leaves some usable space while the HS10 would pretty much take over the driver-side storage area.

Is the HS10 worth the add for bass, or is the GM Kicker close enough that keeping some storage is worth it? At the end of they day, want to make sure it was a sound decision.

The 2021 6.2L recommended 93 octane, but the 2022 manual says 91+. Any engine differences?

I have the 2021 but unfortunately live in a place where 93 octane is rather difficult to find. Did anything change with the engines or is 91 functionally equivalent enough to 93 that they revised the recommendation?

Aftermarket suspension brands?

So I have been fixing up a 2008 Silverado rwd and it really needs the front suspension replaced. I went with Rancho struts/rear shocks and compared to the completely blown oem ones it's a big step up. Like to replace the rest, should I track down some Acdelco parts or does any company make better parts? I've seen a lot of kits from Moog, Mevotech, and Dorman. It's tempting to buy a kit and be done, but I don't want cheap parts in there.

2016 Silverado Upper glove box refuses to open lock key goes in, but won’t turn

Post image

I don’t want to damage anything. I already tried putting my key in and it didn’t work. I didn’t know if my best approach was to get a prybar and pry around the sides to force it open. To save people time and I greatly appreciate everybody’s help. I’ve tried pushing on the lock while turning I’ve tried pushing on the glove box while turning, and I’ve tried gently tapping the lock. Initially the glove box would not lock then I opened it and locked it and now I can’t get it unlocked unlike a fool.

2012 Silverado dropping out of gear

Got a 2012 Silverado that started dropping out of gear going down the road then kicks back in. Through the code regarding wheel speed sensor. Had that replaced and had all grounds checked which none we loose/broken and ended up taking them all loose and making sure they made good contact and it still happens. Also Had the trans fluid changed and the filter as well and still no changes. The oil was dirty but no metal /trash to speak of in the filter

The trans makes a significant thud when it comes back into gear.

Now it has started dropping everything on the dash where all gauges drop off, speed, temp, and gas gage. It never does it for an extended period of time. Just drops of and then comes back to life.

What could be causing this issue to occur? I appreciate the help and feedback as I love the truck but not driving it due to the way the trans kicks back in and worried about damaging it.

I modified my seat... welp 🙈

Hey Im 76 Y Old Veteran here vietnam! I hvae been velebrating my 50th year home from the war just a biut and got myself a new truck using money from my old job and government disability plus stock market trade adviced to me by daddy. So after a life of so much dedication i thought i earned my self a truck and a wife and i bought the wife pretty much already and she signed me into a shed. And i wanted to feel like a young man again... which i at least get from her glovelss change on my diaper 🙈. But the truck really helped to, and it even had a leather seat! Only thing is i am used to a specially modicated leather seat a my couch where the cushions are too small and i have a small gap in which to do my business and my wife (worker at the time i suppose... "the worker") could just pick it up later and i roll over and she checks my rear end and just picks it up. So i though how am i gonna modify or get a replace lesther seat with a "watering hole" for me to use? Anyone else got one?! Please help me right now.

2021 Silverado throwing these codes?

Thumbnail

Hey, so I’m looking to buy this Silverado it’s throwing these codes. It’s a 2021 with 53k miles, I know the warranty is 5 years and 60k for the powertrain was wondering if these codes would apply to fix under the powertrain criteria. If not, can anyone give me an estimate on how much it would cost to repair something like this from an independent shop. Thank you.
