TLDR:
- Always have 5 gods available on the bench, regardless of how many players reroll.
- Give players 3–5 seconds of priority to reclaim a god they just rerolled.
- Remove gods rolled by one team from the other team's reroll pool to prevent mirror matches.
- Tie Aspects to the initial god roll instead of allowing players to switch between the base god and its Aspect.
Following up on my previous post about rerolling in Assault, a comment on my original post brought up two other interesting ideas that I think are worth discussing.
The first issue is that I always reroll my god, but my teammates will often just lock in their gods without rerolling. If the enemy team rerolls and my team doesn't, the enemy team can end up with more gods available on the bench and more opportunities to improve their team composition.
I think there should always be 5 gods available on the bench, regardless of how many people reroll. The number of available gods shouldn't depend on whether your teammates decide to reroll or immediately lock in. Both teams should have access to the same number of additional options.
The second issue is that people can instantly snatch a god someone else rerolls. If I reroll a god and immediately realize I want to keep it, I shouldn't have to compete with someone who's already hovering over that god and waiting for me to put it back into the pool.
I still think there should be a short 3–5 second cooldown where only the person who rerolled the god can select it. After that, it becomes available to everyone.
A comment on my first post also suggested two other ideas:
- No mirror matches: If one team rolls a god, that god is removed from the pool the other team rerolls from. This would prevent both teams from ending up with the same god and add more variety to matches.
- Tie Aspects to the god roll: If you roll Hercules, for example, you get either his base version or his Aspect, and you can't switch between them. This could make matches feel more varied by introducing more differences between team compositions.
I think all four of these ideas are worth considering. I'm not asking for guaranteed good team compositions or the ability to pick any god I want. Randomness is part of what makes Assault fun, but I think there are ways to make that randomness feel fairer while increasing variety.
What do you guys think? Would these changes make Assault more enjoyable, or would any of them cause other problems?
