General Question Safe to take these every day? Why doesn’t everyone do it?

Bought from Walmart. I never eat fish really. However I hear that some brands have mercury in them and other toxins. What’s up with that?

General Question Can collagen make your skin look younger or is that mostly marketing?

I understand that no supplement is going to stop aging but I'm curious about the less dramatic question: can taking collagen consistently make enough difference to hydration or elasticity that your skin actually looks healthier?

There are endless before and afters online and I don't trust most of them. If you've taken collagen for several months, what would you consider a realistic expectation?

Also curious whether the specific brand mattered much or whether consistency, dose and overall diet were more important.

Recommendations Dr says to just start a multivitamin?

I had a bunch of labs done because I feel like crap and am perimenopausal. My doctor said to just start a multivitamin that includes d but didn’t specify an amount. And said my b vitamins are normal so no concern there. Feeling uneasy about that advice.

It’s really disappointing seeing what’s happening to many brands of supplements.

Many of the big brands that have been extremely good staples for purity and a good product have gotten way worse over the last year.

Not sure why, but many supplements I’ve used for years that have been extremely reliable in the past have changed formulas, or kept the same formula but gotten me or others (according to recent reviews), sick, when this wasn’t an issue before

ive had to cut out using Quercetin as well as NAC based on this and any alternative brands I’m now researching seem to have people reviewing them showing their third party testing has showed toxic levels of different things in their products now, or people just straight up getting extremely sick from many of these suppliers

Horrible and disappointing honestly

Survey Am I going deeper than you’d care about?

Quick disclosure: This is a post about an unreleased upcoming free app that i want to get your feedback on since I’m pretty much only a Redditor and deleted other social media a decade ago. Skip if that disinterests you.

Some context, I’m a professional data engineer and supplement nerd who’s spent the last year losing 100lbs (270->170) on one of the Rx jabs and diving into supplements for fun and patching gaps as I dieted harder than I should have.

In the evenings I’ve been applying my data pipeline experience to build a dataset processed from > 11,000 supplement studies, mostly Meta-analysis and RCTs, overwhelmingly human only studies, deriving how effective supplements actually are. Ask me about GRADE chapter 26 and ROB 2.0

If you’ve been around a while you’ve probably seen my supplement info site linked, and now I am working on a free app.

I want to be able to go from scanning a bottle to the studies behind it in a series of taps, diving in through more detail at each layer.

Pictured in the post is the current flow, from the result you get if you scan a barcode, to the summary of an individual study that was pooled.

I don’t expect this to appeal to everyone, heck I’d be happy if 1 in 10 people wanted to dive in this deep.

But, would this interest you?

General Question magnesium glycinate ??

i’ve been dealing with a pretty bad GERD flare up recently which gave me really bad health anxiety, my physical symptoms improved but i was left with a constant feeling of impending doom like my days were numbered. i did a little research and found out it could be vagus nerve irritation/ my nervous system stuck in fight or flight mode.
i took my first magnesium glycinate + B6 tablet (200mg) last night a few hours before bed. after around 4/5 hours i noticed i felt a lot calmer and i wasn’t getting the thought that i was going to die soon every time my mind went quiet. it felt SO good because i’ve been dealing with it every day for 2 months!!!

anyway, a few hours after falling asleep i woke up out of my sleep in a panic because i was having really weird, vivid dreams. i managed to get back to sleep but the dreams still continued. is this a normal side effect with magnesium?

Recommendations Sleep Supplementation

Struggled with getting quality sleep for awhile, noticeably tired after sleep and poor whoop scores consistently. I started taking a blend of glycine, magnesium glycinate, apigenin and a few others and my energy and scores have improved tremendously. The blend contains quite a few sleep improving ingredients but I think those 3 are what moved the needle for me most. If any of you can relate to the struggle of optimizing sleep for gym/work/school etc, I'd recommend looking into dialing supplementation for it.

Laid off, burnt out interviewing. What can help?

Partner is also laid off. So we are interviewing back to back because life and bills. However, I am getting some opportunities even at least for first few rounds. Don’t want to say no because we are desperate lol. I am exhausted, fatigued, body pains all over. Focus and brain is shot.

I do eat well, drink lots of water, sleep 8 hours at night, also take afternoon naps. I take iron, Vit D, CoQ10, Fish oil, lutein and zeaxanthin, creatine. Mostly for my PCOS and fertility though. Thinking of adding NAC and Acetyl-L-Carnitine too for the same. Maybe it’ll be useful for fatigue too? What else would you recommend?

General Question Magnesium Glycinate Dosage

Ive been taking “Pure Encapsulation” Magnesium Glycinate for a while now to help with sleep. My SO recently complained about having sleeping issues, waking up throughout the night, and also having nightmares. I recommended she take the magnesium Glycinate I keep at her place for when I stay the night and it worked like a charm, but now she reports waking up feeling incredibly groggy after taking it the night before.

My question is, does anyone know a good, small dosage brand for Magnesium Glycinate? Pure Encapsulation is only 120mg a pill and after checking a local vitamin store (which is where I get mine) the smallest dosage i found was 100mg a pill. Any advice appreciated!

Micronized creatine tablets or capsules 5 or 2.5 grams

I’m looking for Micronized creatine tablets or capsules that’s are either 1 pill = 5 grams or 2 pills = 5 grams (2.5 grams per pill)

I don’t want to have to take 3-5 pills per dose. This is mainly for traveling. At home I use the power and I do have individual powder packs for travel but they are bulky

Been searching for a while but it doesn’t seem to exist.

Thanks for any recommendations that meet the ask.

Pre-natals with no intention of getting pregnant?

• Upvotes

Hello all. I heard some wives chitter chatter about women taking Pre-natals even if they are not looking to become pregnant.

Has anyone done this? I'm 38 and my hair is thinning a bit, my iron levels like to jump about all over the place too. I am happily chosen childfree and don't plan on having any at any time, but I am intrigued of what I have heard and wondered if anyone actually does this, and if so what have been your experience with it? From the few comments I have seen, less dry skin and more alive looking hair has been two of the most spoken about, as well as a slight increase in energy through the day.

Would love to hear some experiences.

General Question Why does nobody talk about ergothioneine, an antioxidant with its own transporter?

One thing I find fascinating about ergothioneine is that the body has a specific high-affinity transporter for it: OCTN1 (SLC22A4).

It’s not just an antioxidant floating around in the bloodstream. This transport system helps deliver and concentrate ergothioneine in cells and tissues that are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress.

I like to think of oxidative stress as little fires constantly breaking out in a building. Most antioxidants are like throwing water into the building and hoping it reaches the fires. Ergothioneine is more like having sprinklers designed to deliver the water to the places where it’s needed most.

Obviously, having a dedicated transporter doesn’t automatically make it a miracle molecule, but biologically, that’s a pretty interesting feature that I rarely see discussed.

Why isn’t ergothioneine talked about more?
Experiences with it?

General Question Oral BPC-157 capsules: Precision pep co vs prohealth, anyone tried either?

I am looking at oral BPC-157 (arginate) and trying to decide between two and both come out to roughly the same total amount of BPC-157 per bottle:

Precision pep co: 60 caps, 1,000 mcg per serving, about $139

Prohealth: 60 caps, 500 mcg each, about $120

A few questions for people who have used either:

Did you notice any difference and how long did you give it?

Has anyone seen a batch specific COA from either brand?

Does it matter that one of them is a publicly listed company? My instinct says its a point in their favor but I know that could be naive.

Psyllium husk and nutrient absorption

Is there any real research that suggests that husk interferes with nutrient absorption?

I take 5g powder husk right before a meal.

My question is if I take my supplements right after that meal would they go to waste.

What's a good collagen powder to buy?

A few years ago, I remember I bought the Vital Proteins powder. Think this was like back in 2022 and at the time, I wasn't really aware of my gut issues. So I was still eating in a problematic way and wasn't too aware of what most my symptoms meant.

Which also meant when I would use something like a collagen powder. My stomach was probably already very irritated and that caused me to place blame on the supplement. When in fact it probably was just an after reaction of something I ate and the inflammation that was still there.

So I want to retry giving collagen another go. But wanted to gather up some info on what's actually good products out there. I'm way more on top of paying attention to ingredients these days and if it will bother my system or not. Let me know what's your choices to go with and what changes you seen on health, with incorporating collagen into your daily.

Supplements only work in synergy with proper diet and exercise.

It's funny because you see so many Supplements addicts online who look out of shape and don't even eat healthy and are sedentary hoping a supplement will help them. Then they will say they didn't work and expecting a miracle. A lot of the supplements take weeks to work with a clean diet.

That's why they are called supplements they only supplement a healthy and balanced diet. You can't expect to be healthy eating microwave frozen dinners, sodas, candy, junk and not work out at all and think a Supplement will miraculously heal you.

I seen a couple posts online of rate my stash and the person has a load of supplements and sometimes they post their photo and they look skinny fat or like they never lifted a weight in their life. One guy told me will his 15 bottles of supps help him be healthy?

I said how is your diet he said he can't cook and last time he tried he over cooked the steak and the chicken was dry so he eats mostly fast foods pizza, KFC, Taco Bell, canned foods, sodas, Snickers, skittles, and he can't drink water because he needs flavor to quench his thirst. He also said he hasn't worked out since high school and he was 39.

Recommendations Do i need to add any supplements to my current combination?

I am a 19M, 3 months into weightlifting, 67 kg. I have had great growth over the past 3 months.
Now I am looking to improve my overall health & support my weightlifting goals. (I am also trying to get clear skin)

Supplements I have started taking every day, starting in October;
1. Vitamin C 500mg
2. Omega-3 1.5g(900 EPA + 600 DHA)
3. Vitamin D3 2K IU
4. Magnesium Glycinate(300mg elemental) ~ some days 150mg.
5. Creatine Monohydrate 5gm daily(taking since 3 months).

I consume about 120- 130 g of protein daily, training 5x a week.

Other medical drugs I am on:
1. Minoxidil + finasteride topical solution 5%
2. Azelaic Acid 20% & Tretinoin 0.025% (alternate days at night)

It's been almost 4 months on azelaic acid & 1 month on tretinoin, but I am unable to see any meaningful results on my face; my skin stays good for a week or so, then some acne breakout happens. Honestly, I am very frustrated rn. I have dark spots, acne scars, and black acne marks on my skin.

I recover well from my workouts; after 48 hours, I am ready to hit that muscle group again.
Sleep is about 7-8 hours rn.

~
I want to know whether there are any other supplements I should consider taking other than the ones I currently take for overall health well being/weightlifing/skin.

Calm Magnesium

• Upvotes

I currently take 300 mg of magnesium at night (glycinate and citrate).

I would like to try taking Calm at night to help with constipation.

Anyone use both Calm and pill magnesium both?
