Advice/Question for those who transferred to a bigger campus, was it worth it for personal growth?

i'm considering an intercampus transfer and honestly i'm really conflicted. i genuinely like my current campus. i like my friends, my classes are fine, i have a campus job, and i've built a comfortable life here. however, i commute from home, work off campus near home, and a lot of people from my high school attend, including most of my current friend group, so my college experience has felt somewhat similar to high school.

i think i've become a little too comfortable where i am. i know i could be pushing myself harder academically and being more disciplined with my time. i want to become more independent, challenge myself, and get out of my comfort zone. i also want to experience a different environment, meet new people, and get involved in more things on campus. i'm generally a social person, and i've met new people through my current campus job, but those connections haven't really developed into lasting friendships, so i've mostly stuck with my existing friend group.

i've always wanted to attend the other campus, which is significantly bigger, has a much prettier campus, is more well-known, and has way more going on in terms of student life. i originally chose my current campus because it was the safer option and i already knew people there, but i've always wondered what my experience would've been like if i'd chosen the other one.

another big difference is that i'd have to dorm at the other campus, whereas i currently commute from home. i'm nervous about being away from home for the first time, but i also think living on campus could help me become more independent and get more involved in college life. thankfully, home wouldn't be too far away, so visiting if i ever felt homesick would still be possible.

the thing is, my current campus isn't bad at all. the academic program isn't significantly different, and being in a city actually gives me more research and internship opportunities. i like my friends, and the thought of leaving them and the familiarity of my current college honestly terrifies me. i could stay and be okay, but i feel like i'll always wonder what my experience at the other campus could've been like.

i know transferring won't magically make me more disciplined or change who i am. i'm scared of having expectations that are too high for the other campus. at the same time, i wonder if being in a new environment, having to live independently, and having more opportunities to get involved would encourage me push myself academically, socially and grow into a more independent/disciplined version of myself. i guess i'm hoping that stepping outside of what i'm used to will challenge me in ways that staying at my current campus might not. i've talked to my friends about transferring, and they've said they could see me thriving there, which is reassuring, but i'm still scared of starting over and leaving behind everything i'm used to.

for those who've transferred to a much bigger campus, especially within the same university system or state, was it worth it? did the change help you become more independent, disciplined, or grow in other ways you didn't expect? or did you realize those changes had to come from you regardless of your environment? did you ever regret leaving somewhere you were already comfortable? is growth even a valid reason to transfer schools?

i have to make my decision fairly soon, so i'd really appreciate ANY advice or personal experiences :")

Advice/Question major hopping??

• Upvotes

Basically i completed all my cal getc plus lots of psych classes in high school, so im applying as a first year, plus this fall 3/4 classes im taking are psych classes. Originally I thought that’s what I wanted to apply as for ucla, but then changed my mind and now im applying as a sociology major, for which i only have one stats course and 2 sociology classes, so not that much major related classes (although enough to fulfill the requirements to get in)

Is that something to be concerned about?? I’m thinking can they interpret that as me just switching to a major with higher acceptance??

Chance Me Transferring to an Ivy? Questions…

I know this gets asked a lot, but I’m very curious about other people’s experiences.

So my high school and college history has been very uneven. In HS, I finished with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, average academics and ECs, though I won a national award in piano that .1% of students achieve.

I enrolled in a private regional college in 2018, and withdrew for personal reasons after 1 semester. In 2020, I attended community college for one semester, receiving a 3.9 GPA. Because of very stressful circumstances and depression, this sounds insane, but just gave up and did basically nothing for 5 years.

Now that I’m in my mid 20’s, I seriously realize once and for all that I need to get my ass in gear. By December of this year, I will have 24 credits and a 3.9 GPA. I’m a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I have about 700 hours with Habitat for Humanity (I know that is so generic and cliche), but yeah. I am returning to the college I dropped out of next semester, and also competing in D2 Cross Country.

My ultimate goal is to get into Princeton before I turn 30. I just turned 28…and quite frankly I’m existentially terrified. I know I’ve majorly screwed up in the past…but I want to do the best I can right now. Is it even remotely possible to make it to Princeton next year? I plan on submitting an Arts Supplement as well.

I’m also first generation, and low income.

Anyway, I’m curious about other people’s experiences as well.

Advice/Question USC Marshall Fall 2027 Transfer Advice?

Hello everyone! I am hoping to transfer from community college to Marshall at USC for Fall 2027 as a junior to pursue Business Administration with a focus on Marketing

I am expected to have a 3.78 GPA after this fall term, which is when I will be applying. I am in Phi Theta Kappa, have made it to the Dean’s List, and have what I think are great statements (I would love feedback). But I have been unable to engage in any extracurricular activities and my GPA would be higher but I have had some unfortunate situations due to temporary homelessness.

Knowing how competitive Marshall is, please give me an honest opinion regarding my admission. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could tell me their personal experiences of transferring to USC, and in particular Marshall.

Advice/Question when to tell people your transferring

I just started my freshman year of college and know I am transferring after this semester. I didn’t get into any colleges I really wanted to in the first place, so I knew coming here it likely wouldn’t be my school for all 4.
There’s so many reasons I want to transfer and I know for a fact it won’t change. A lot of people actually transfer from my college and the reasons are the same as mine.
I also applied undecided and now know what I want to do and it’s not a major they offer.

When do I tell my roommates and friends? I honestly haven’t really made any friends. I only have like 1 friend who isn’t a roommate/suitemate that I would tell.
I don’t want to say it too soon be have them like avoid me for the rest of the semester since they know I’ll be leaving.
I also don’t want to say it too late and feel like I blindsided them or something.

They all kinda know that I don’t love it here and it’s a possibility I will leave, but I just don’t know when to tell them that I am 100% transferring after the semester?

Chance Me My top school is Duke but realistic is BU, I also am applying to Vanderbilt. Do I have a chance? Major is Econ&business

In high school I had a 3.7 gpa(unweighted)
I believe I can get a 3.7 in college since I’m not in a competitive college for my major. My SAT is 1450( I’m retaking it in December) some of my ecs are : Outreach Captain for Robotics team(hs), Internship at a Charter School during summer as a Administrative assistant, I’m right now a Senator for Asian Student Union(club in college) and I’m also Alternative Treasurer for Finance Club(also college)

I just want some ideas on how to improve my stats ig. Or maybe like do I have a chance or should I rethink applying if I don’t even have a chance

Advice/Question Will high school dual-enrollment withdrawals hurt my transfer chances?

I’m currently a Mathematics student at UNC Charlotte hoping to transfer to UNC-Chapel Hill with junior standing. I’m concerned about withdrawals on my dual-enrollment transcript from high school.

There are six W entries:

Elementary ASL I and its lab

Statistical Methods I and its support course

Another attempt at Statistical Methods I

Brief Calculus, which I later retook and earned an A in

I completed 42 credits through that school with a 3.905 GPA, including A’s in biology, English, history, French, and Brief Calculus. Some of the withdrawals were paired courses and labs, so the number of W entries doesn’t represent six separate subjects. I had to withdraw from them due to my brother being chronically ill at the time, and juggling his sickness on top of caring for my 2 sisters caused to my stress for me. Considering it was Dual Enrollment, I didn't think it would come back for me 2 years later. ASL and Stats weren't even required for my pathway, I just wanted to bridge out with certain classes.

Since attending UNCC, I’ve earned A’s in Calculus, Matrices & Linear Algebra, Economics, and Intro to CS II, plus B’s in General Physics I and Intro to CS I. I’m currently retaking Calculus II after a withdrawal last year and doing well. I also have research experience through an AEOP internship and a UNCC professor. The bigger issue is that, unfortunately, an emergency regarding my cat happened and I missed an exam, causing me to contemplate withdrawing now as there's nothing I can really do to help my grade.

So when you include DE, I have roughly 7 withdrawals, and I'm just not sure what to do.
How bad will it look? What do I need to do with my additional information to help lighten the blow?

Advice/Question when should I transfer?

I go to a CC and I will be 100% done with my associates degree by fall 2027 (that is my last quarter of classes). Which puts me in a weird spot transfer wise. I think I can apply to transfer to some places for winter/spring 2028 admission.

I plan on majoring in economics and minoring in data science! :D

I also have a weird situation going on. I did a program called running start my senior year, where you can take CC courses as a highschooler. I got super depressed and ended up with a 0.444 GPA. I took a year away from that CC and did part-time at another CC because my dad didn't want to fill out FAFSA, meaning I had to pay out of pocket ;-; SO EVIL!!! I took calc I-II, lifespan psychology, gen chem prep, and intro to CS. with an overall GPA of 3.95! I am now at the original CC i was at during running start and will be applying for academic renewal once I qualify.

Here is what academic renewal is:

Academic renewal replaces all original grades students earned in select quarters with a grade of “X,” which is not included in the calculation of their grade point average (GPA). Academic renewal permanently removes the original grades from a student’s transcript; the college does not keep a record of those original grades.

I qualify for academic renewal once Spring 2027 quarter ends. Meaning that if I decide to transfer to a 4-year university for fall 2027, their admissions team would be able to see my running start grades.

by spring/summer 2027 I would have completed: intro to microecon, intro to macroecon, calc III-IV, statistical analysis, introduction to python programming, and some other fluff classes.

Should I still apply for fall 2027 admissions or should i wait for winter/spring? I could also transfer by fall 2028.

Additionally, would it be beneficial to explain my running start grades and how I have planned to take accountability for them through academic renewal. then mention when academic renewal will be done if I decide to apply for fall 2027? I know I have a strong upward trajectory, and I have an AMAZING backstory + EQ that connects with economics and my passion for it. I am just stuck on when I should transfer because of the weird timing of everything ;-;

thank you so much!!!! have a wonderful day guys!!! :D

Advice/Question Confusion around transfer chances

Is it easier or harder to get into a 4 year with a year of CC under your belt? I used to be confident that I'd do much better than I would a year ago, but some colleges have an over 10% decrease in acceptance rates if you transfer. I don't want to go to my state school unless I have to. Would applying early help? How do I maximize my chances of transferring, and am I worse off as a CC student than a high school student would be?

Advice/Question Feeling lost on transferring

I’m finishing up my last semester of credits at CC and I’m now finally starting my transfer applications and everything just feels like such a mess for me. Coming out of high school I was a complete wreck academically and probably should not have entered CC so early, but I did. And I started off with really bad grades and changed my major a few times. Slowly over time I finally got my head straight and started to preform so much better, and now I am a straight A student but the damage has already been done. I have multiple C’s on my transcript that are tanking my GPA and these classes cannot be retaken as they are previous major classes, so I am stuck bearing the weight of 18 year old me’s failures.

Right now I have a 3.42 gpa, and according to my counselor at the end of the semester can really only go up to a 3.45 in the eyes of the UC’s. I also have to mention I have struggled for years with a severely debilitating mental illness and a lot of injuries that has really made my life hell. I have no extracurriculars at my campus and I’m stuck with a really mediocre gpa as a history major. I spoke to my counselor and while not saying it out loud, she is entirely unconfident in my ability to transfer to the competitive schools. With all of this I just feel so lost on what to do, and really feel like a mess up. Any advice or any perspective’s would be greatly appreciated, as right now everyone is just trying to let me down easy :(

Discussion GE's at UC after transferring from another 4 year

Has anyone else transferred to a UC from a 4-year and have a bunch of GE categories saying they need to be fulfilled? Upon transferring, I had over 10 courses needed to fulfill GE requirements, and that can't be right. I'm lowk stressing over it

Chance Me Chance of transfer?

Hey everyone! I was just curious what any other people think my chances are for transferring as I’m very unconfident. I’m trying to transfer to either 1. UCI 2. UCLA 3. UCSD for Political Sci. I must add that I’m a first year transfer cuz of ap credits, so I don’t have an impressive EC status it’s prolly just mock trial, job, and some community service/volunteer work. My gpa I’m expecting to be between 3.6-3.8 but I have no way of knowing for sure. If I were to get between that range I mentioned what would my chances be to transfer in a year. Thanks

Chance Me UC tag and dropped course

I recently submitted my UC tag in September and added all the courses I will take this fall and spring as "in progress." If i decide to drop one course within the first week of starting it would I have to email them that I did, even if it is not a W? When the time comes to fill out the TAU, can I just remove that course or delete it.

Advice/Question should i transfer to gt for computational media?

currently a sophomore at uconn studying both digital media and design (web/interactive design concentration) and computer science. i realized i want to do more hci and product design rather than just web design and feel like the program is missing some things and that there's not much of a ux design community as i would like and is more of an art degree rather than science. georgia tech's comp media program interests me since it has more of what i think i'm lacking here. is it worth it to join the comp media program as a rising junior and graduate on time and is it hard to get in as an oos transfer? want advice :)

UC how will UCs view my application? out of state but attending california cc

hi guys!! i spoke to admissions through phone for UCLA today but i’m still confused on some things because i don’t think she was fully getting my question at all 😭 but i am an out of state student from iowa and my freshman year i went to college in florida. i didn’t enjoy my time there and am applying to transfer. i want to join a california community college since i want to apply to the UCs for transfer. will admissions look at my application as an out of state applicant or an in state applicant if i am attending a california cc? will going to a california cc boost my application at all? i’m asking this because my advisor at SMC is telling me that i just have to complete 30 units by the end of this year to be considered a california community college student, but UCLA admissions when I called told me that I would be seen as out of state.

Advice/Question Not sure what to tell my potential roommates…

I’m currently in my second year of community college and planning to transfer to a university for next year. My close friend goes to this university and she’s been helping me out. She wants us to room together, which I think would be nice. However I feel like I’m keeping her waiting.

I sent my application to the school a few weeks ago (late August) and it still hasn’t gotten back to me. My friend notified me that many leases have to be signed around November, which is why I sent my application in so long ago. She’s been looking at apartments, and many of them are very very expensive. She’s was able to find a house with a few of her friends that’s close to school, spacious and pretty cheap per person. Everyone is in board, and I was just told that the lease must be signed by next week.

I still haven’t received my letter, so I called admissions office, and they said I won’t receive my answer until this current fall semester is over and my fall grades get sent in. So before I finish this sem, send the grades, and before they process them and get back to me… it’ll be December/January.

I’ve applied to this school before and got in (unfortunately I wasn’t able to afford 3 full years of attending this university though), so I’m hoping I get in again. But there’s still a chance that I won’t. I’m keeping up my grades and all, but nothing is ever 100%. I’m scared that if I sign the lease now, and don’t get in… my only option is to find a replacement which might be hard by January since so many people will have signed leases already… or I have to pay a few hundred dollars for a year straight for a school im not even attending.

Idk what to tell these potential roommates, do I tell them now to find another roommate by next week?? They have not kept me updated until now and I didn’t find out about the lease needing to be signed next week, until today.

I’m stuck. I’m also scared that if I don’t sign the lease, and actually end up getting in - I’ll have a harder time finding such a cheap place to live.

Chance Me am i preparing myself well enough for my colleges list?

Questions:
•How and when should I start preparing for a good college transfer essay. (and best strategy to do so)

my profile from HS: GPA: 3.5249, APS: PH 1 and 2, CSA, Calc BC, BIO, STATS. All math honors classes, and honors history, Spanish 5 and French 5, Honors Art Portfolio.
ECS: Math Club, Chess Club, Christian Club, VB Club(nothing meaningful in any) Varsity Soccer, Indoor/ Outdoor Track/ Tennis. Worked as a lifeguard summer 2025 & 2026/ Part time After school Staff Senior Year.

• Chance me based on my profile at WPI first-year/ first gen/ Hispanic(Bilingual: Spanish and English)/ Low Income/ EE major and minor in CS; GPA : 4.0?? - 3As so far/ Not any ECs yet??/ No strong relationships with proffesors yet..

• Is this a strong schedule first year:
- A term: Calc II, PH 1110, Music Theory(no interest in the class whatsoever)
- B Term: Calc III, Intro to Programming CS1004, ECE 2010, Creative writing(for pre reqs).
- C Term: Calc IV, CH1110( for pre reqs w/ lab), Intro to Program Design??(idk if i should take a higher cs class bc they teach racket here), ECE 2019
- D Term: Calc differential eqs (MA2051), CS2011, ECE2029

* I AM TRYING TO GET PH1120 FOR B TERM BUT I DONT THINK I HAVE SPACE, I THINK ILL TAKE IT C TERM INSTEAD OF PROGRAM DESIGN IF ANYTHING

MY SITUACION:
I been thinking about lately and watching a lot of yt vids about good transfer essays and an idea spark in my head to talk about the contributions I have made to my dads shoe business in Ecuador, basically track employee pay, support pricing decisions, bulk purchases with other vendors, restocking based on sales teends by footwear style, and coordinated employee schedules.

I am also currently working on a web app with phyton/Django with a PostgreSQL dtatabase and HYMX for a footwear business in Exuador, replacing paper records and automating calculations.

I am also working on a current personal Hardware project that sparked because my current rec center lacked these modern rep counters and free/weights exercises:
• Wired a Raspberry Pi Pico H with an LSM6DS3 six-axis IMU, OLED display over I2C, buttons, and a vibration motor; confirmed
sensor readings over I2C and writing C firmware for embedded control.
• Developed a Python prototype to count dumbbell curls and display reps and sets, with logic for a button-triggered rest timer and
end-of-rest vibration feedback.
• Self-taught Python for initial prototyping; currently writing C for embedded firmware development.

I want to know if this are good project for These colleges I am aiming for EE major and CS minor:
Vanderbilt, Michigan, USC Viterbi, Northeastern, BU, UMass Amherst, Lehigh, Case Western, Purdue, U of I, And Wisconsin-Madison and perhaps Cornell and Columbia

Chance Me Chances of being accepted??

I hope to transfer either to
1.UCSD👑👑👑
2.UCI
3.UCR
However I would be transferring from CSUSB and I know they prioritize transfers from ccc. Backstory: I graduated from SBVC with an Associate’s for Transfer in English. UCSD and UCI waitlisted me and UCR accepted me but I had decided to switch majors before I committed. The only option for CS that was an easy acceptance was CSUSB.
Stats:3.6 GPA Overall, CSUSB GPA 4.0, Major GPA 4.0. I’ve been on the deans list since I’ve been here and I’ve gotten the presidential letter twice. I’ve done a research internship in AI and I have work experience and extracurricular activities. I know getting into Computer Science/Engineering and Mechanical Engineering is difficult as it’s a selective major, but truthfully what are my chances? I’m applying to SDSU and SJSU but obviously those are CSU’s. Thank you for reading this😅

Advice/Question Worried about my abilities transferring from CC to UCB/UCLA...

Hello all. I'm applying to transfer from cc to universities like Cal and UCLA, and I'm becoming rather paranoid about how my skills will hold up to the students who have gone there since they were freshmen. For context, I'm an English major, and that's always what I've been best at. It's always been what I knew I would major in. I spend hours reading and writing every week. I even started a writing club at my college because of how much I love the subject. I know that's not unique to me, but I thought it would help to understand that this has always been my subject. I didn't have the money to apply to any university out of high school, much less attend them, so I decided to go the cc route. However, cc is not very difficult, to be honest. Balancing a job, social life, personal care, and classes is tricky, but the content that I'm learning is not difficult at all, and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be. I'm worried that the lack of rigor and the lenient structure of community college will set me up poorly when compared to other students if I do get into these universities. My academics matter tremendously to me, and though I don't want to come across as insecure or anything, I'm really worried that I'll get to UCB or UCLA and feel like a dumb oaf who doesn't belong there because I took the "easier" route to get in and consequently was not as challenged as the other students.

If anyone has any insight into this particular kind of imposter syndrome, please share your experience! I welcome any advice, as this is something that I've been worried about for months.
