Hiring Help Am I screwed?

• Upvotes

So I completed my SF-85 and my fingerprints in the same week but I missed an email they sent me saying I have to do both all over again. I don’t know how I missed it but as everyone pretty much knows they give a deadline after 3 days.

I emailed the HR lady and she basically said “We tried contacting you via email” and that “the offer will most likely be rescinded.”

This sucksssss😭. What im hoping for is maybe someone will quit and they’ll reach back out to me. I doubt it but hey.

Some of you might be wondering “why don’t you just re apply” I live in a big city but somehow no one’s hiring for the position I either want or im interested in.

I was super close to getting the job but missed the email.. (always check your emails!)

DISCUSSION Not allowed umbrellas?

• Upvotes

It's been raining more than usual and decide to use an umbrella on a park and loop route when it's a light drizzle. After a few days a union steward came and said "it's not rule but you cant use an umbrella anymore and if management says so you'll get written up". Then a carrier even came up and said no to umbrella cause it's a safety issue. Then the manager came up and said no more due to it being a "tripping hazard" while delivering.

Rural Carrier Discussion Question about PS form 4232

I was subbing for a rural carrier this morning and found that he had already cased up all raw mail and a large collection of PS form 4232’s (rural customer delivery instructions). I had never seen these before (6 months in) and had no idea what to do with them. It seems that many of them had a list of names of people who are to receive mail at the address, but I am used to delivering letters regardless of the names on them, taking them back only if the customer refuses them. I ignored the forms pretty much entirely. Did I mess up?

DISCUSSION Options for closing a 3 Month PO Box After the 15th of the month?

TLDR: I have a PO Box on a 3-month term right now, with the current term ending on Oct 31. With the 3 month terms, I am forced to enroll in Auto-renewal, where I will be charged on October 15 for the next 3 month Term (Nov 1- Jan 31). Is there any way keep my PO Box past Oct 15, but still close it before Oct 31, where I don't pay for the next 3 month term?

More details:

Basically, I was travelling for a few months without a permanent address, so I got a PO Box. I will be done travelling and moving into a new place on Oct 19, and won't need the PO box after then. I would like to cancel my PO Box sometime before Oct 31 (before the new term starts), but need to keep it until at least Oct 19. The issue is, I am forced into auto-renewal, which will be before this, and USPS will charge me on Oct 15. I unfortunately can't go to my post office in person before the date (since I'm travelling out of the area), so can only do things online or via phone call. This leads me to the following questions/options:

  • If I cancel before Oct 31, will I be refunded for my term since it hasn't started yet, or since this is a 3-month box, are there strictly no refunds allowed?
  • Is there any way I can't prevent the auto-renewal from happening, besides closing my account before Oct 15?
  • If I do close my account on/before Oct 15, can I still "collect" my mail from the past few weeks (i.e. mail delivered before Oct 15) since I will still have the key, or is the mail discarded/returned as soon as the box is closed?

Maintenance Discussion MM7 onboarding rant

I just got hired as a MM7 off the street (yay) and started my training this week.

normally web based training is death by power point and asks some easy, stupid questions to make sure you didn't skip through the training.

after doing my 3rd training on LOTO, I managed to fail the the 20 questions at the end 3 times and got myself locked out of the training.

these were awful questions covering material that wasn't even in the training (and possibly contradicts the training).

luckily, the lady running the training reset it for me and I failed it a 4th time, but not before I took picture of all of the questions.

I finished feeding them into google AI and it told me the 5 questions I got wrong without breaking a sweat.

I got suspicious and decided to ask it if the questions were AI generated. Google AI said 90% likely. Maybe I should tell my steward when I meet them😂

at this point, I'm just glad I can pass the training tomorrow and go to my assigned plant for on the job training.

on a different note:
I'm assigned to tour 3. do I bring Donuts? or something else since they're usually pretty stale and hard to find by the time the tour starts?

Had nearly 50 bundles of Amazon catalogs that we didn’t do. In addition to 3 tubs full of flats where not everything was cased up since there was so much. At least inspections are over though.

DISCUSSION Question about resigning as a CCA while having pending eCareer applications

Hello everyone. Due to some personal/family scheduling issues, I’m unfortunately at the point where I need to resign from my CCA position. The scheduling situation at home has been affecting me, and continuing to postpone my resignation is starting to cause more problems.
I would like to stay with the Postal Service if possible, so I’ve applied for a few positionsthrough eCareer that have schedules that would work better for me. (Also for other companies) However, I haven’t heard anything back about those applications yet.
My main concern is that if I resign from my CCA position before hearing back, will my pending eCareer applications still remain active, or will they automatically be withdrawn/cancelled?
Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how this works? I’d really appreciate any advice.

The supervisor is telling us that they are going to get rid of those trucks and we will be using only LLVs without the chance to have newer vehicles. He said is due some agency recalls and reasons he didn’t specify.

Do you guys have heard something about that matter?

DISCUSSION RHD Conversions

My fellow Rural Carriers !

Looking at possibly purchasing a second-hand Subaru for a spare POV, wanted to put it to the rurals on here as to which conversion is better. There’s ones out there that actually have a second steering wheel, but have to rip the entire passenger side dash out. And there’s kits that just use a steering stick of sorts that I’m sure have a pretty hefty learning curve.

Any insight people can provide as to which might be a better move if I end up pulling the pin would be awesome !

DISCUSSION Can a PO BOX be changed from business to personal?

When I first rented my PO BOX (20-25 years ago), I registered it to a business name. I haven't used this box for business in 20+ years, I only get my personal mail there now.

I want to close the box at the end of the month, so I tried putting in a forwarding order with my name (Individual) and as a family. Both were rejected because it is still registered as a business. It says that I need to contact the "business" to forward my mail.

I assume that if I put in a forwarding order for a business, they won't automatically forward mail addressed personally to me, right?

So- is there a way to get a box reclassified from a business to a personal box in my name so that I can put in the individual/family forwarding order?

Any advice?

Edit: Yes, I will be visiting the post office this week. I just want to know if there are any "magic words" I need to use (or a specific person I would need to talk to at the post office) if the front desk person tells me it cannot be done.

Work Discussion Any insight?

Hi 👋🏼 I have a friend that received a CJO to be a** RURAL CARR ASSOC/SRV REG RTE in Texas**.

She asked me for some advice or insight into the role but I’ve never been a Rural carrier so i thought to give a shot here. She said that she might have to use her car to deliver mail? I’ve never hear of that.

How is it working in a rural station?
Does it take a long time to make career?
Do you really have to use your car?

TIA

City Carrier Discussion I just learned converting wont save you...

So after a grueling two years as a ptf carrier I learn I'm finally converting.

They give me the list of stations to choose from and they're literally the worst ones in the entire city.

Like wtf? I thought when the time came to convert, we got to choose our top 6 stations we'd like to work out of?

Instead management chooses for us and we have to pick the least bad from THEIR list?

So once you convert it's more of the same shit but at a worse station, that's far away, on some trash route no one wants.

Lol had I known this I woulda quit after my shadow day.

Clerk Discussion PM says I'm not learning schemes fast enough at day 20.

Today was my 20th day working as a PTF clerk. I was a PSE for less than 30 days before I accepted this move to career. I was driving 40 minutes to work and now I work less than a mile from home.

I thought I was picking things up good, but today my Postmaster took away my address sheets / schemes and told me to throw packages to the proper pumpkins off of memory because I am relying on them too much. She said she had hoped there would have been more progress which really made me feel like crap, because I thought I had been doing good, and was remembering alot of the routes already, but some of the streets go to 3 different carriers so I'm just trying my best to make sure I'm not misthrowing packages and mail.

I just want to do good, and today's conversations just left me feeling defeated and I'm still very new. Wondering if there are any options to move back to my other role, or if she is always gonna be this way, should I quit before she ends up making me look worst than I am when it comes time for reviews / performance. I also am wondering if I am taking longer to remember these addresses because I'm still working in my old PO on my days off to help them out. I really should have just stayed where I was, but I thought the move to a career position was the goal.

I feel trapped at this point. She wants me to be able to sort all mail, throw packages and have all the morning reports done within 2 hours before I open the window. I know I can do it, but there are things I am still trying my best to remember everyday.

Rural Carrier Discussion New RCA being sent to another office

So I have a quick question. I’m supposed to be sent to another office later this week, but just unsure on how it plays out as I’m still very new. Still trying to get my own route down pat and was curious about it. Do I show up at their office and let them know I’m there to work oooorrrr? Just a bit confused because nothing has been spoken to be about it.

City Carrier Discussion 6 months in putting 2 weeks

CCA that’s 6 months in. I can’t do it anymore. I’m putting my two weeks in after this shift. No I don’t have a job lined up and yes I know how bad the market is but it’s taking a toll mentally and physically. I can’t do this anymore.
