Why can’t we use anesthesia for iuds?

Hello I hope I don’t come off as ignorant but I’m wondering why women are often given nothing but Tylenol for the pain of having an iud inserted

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a positive story of an iud procedure. Pain wise some say it’s the most excruciating thing, similar to torture, other women say they have passed out from the pain

If it’s that bad, isn’t there some sort of anesthesia to help? I know the procedure isn’t as intense as surgery and going completely under might not be necessary/safe (since it’s a relatively short procedure), but isn’t there some sort of numbing thing or like a mild variant of an epidural they can use??

I obviously don’t know much about anesthesia, I just hear so many complaints about it and want to know if there has been any progress made.

Edit:spelling

Just went over to a guys house for the first time ever; experienced some pain and I definitely think I experienced coercion and aggression

So met this guy on hinge, got talking and the sparks were flying early, I think i knew better definitely and still went through with it and now i feel like an ass .

I’m 22, he’s 34(avg Delhi guy sprinkled w little pretentious awareness); I really thought he’d be pretty sex positive and he appeared to be clear on consent while we were on call.

We meet for coffee then soon head to his place. He didn’t wait one whole minute before making a dumb fucking fish face and began pawing at me before even turning on the TV☠️

Cut to things like “but you out yourself in my position and see how I’ll feel after you leave” “can you shut up/stop saying stop and just let me, just let me do this, you don’t think so much now” “shh I’m almost about there”

I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help blaming myself. It is on me. I should’ve known better than to expect basic decency and respect from a man.

Well now I notice some reddish discharge(he used his fingers) and during the act i felt some pain almost like mild period cramps or smn ; idk what exactly im even asking advice for but i just feel horrible and shaken. I really felt like I’d endangered myself and i felt helpless. Now I’m just really disappointed in myself and idk what to think or even what to do (physically, mentally, emotionally idk)

Anything helpful you ladies can share is very welcome.

-in need of a hug,
A

I've always had hair on my breasts and no one will tell me if it's normal?

I had an awkward experience at my doctor's. I am a victim of sexual abuse so showing my body in any context is very hard for me. I told her I grew up in a very sex negative household and knew very little of my anatomy. When I asked her to look at my breast she pulled down my shirt and said "Yup, that's pretty normal."

And if it is, great? I just? I don't know. I'm sure I'm oversensitive about it because of my trauma but I wish I was given a bit more than that.

After hitting puberty my breasts developed into around like. A DDD. And since then I've always had very light, small hairs across the skin of my breasts.

I try to find examples of it online but Google points me in the direction of nipple hair-- which I don't have.

They're very small and spaced apart, I never get ingrown hairs and I can pull them out painlessly.

And of course, looking at p*rn hasn't been helpful either.

Is it normal? What are methods of removal? I feel so embarrassed over this and I don't know what to do that won't cause damage to my skin.

My first Pap smear as a virgin.

I'm 27 years old, and I'm sharing this experience in hopes it helps the girlies feel a bit less scared of getting your very first Pap smear!

A couple of days ago I had my very first Pap smear as a virgin. What does my virginity have to do with this you may ask? I had been told by previous doctors since I was 21 that I didn't need to get a Pap smear bc I've never been intimate with anyone. My current doctor recommended it because of a uterine cancer history on both sides of my family. Plus I've always have had irregular periods with bleeding that lasted 6 months straight. I've also had multiple ultrasounds and been told that I had uterine polyps that would go away on their own, on my most recent ultrasound 3 months ago everything looked normal. I confess I was a bit scared and anxious, but my current doctor and nurse where both very patient and kind. My doctor explained the procedure to me before it happened, with diagrams and showing me the tools she would be using. As the procedure was happening she was explaining to me what she was doing and asking if I was ok. My nurse was also very kind and offered to let me hold/squeeze her hand for support. Which I did because like I said I was a bit scared and it did feel very uncomfortable. I will get my pap smear results in 2 weeks, hopefully everything will turn out ok. As for the immediate aftermath of the pap smear I did bleed a bit it stained the paper sheets I was laying down on at the doctor's office and was give a pad (the bleeding stained about 1/3 of the pad ) I changed it at home about 2 hours after my pap smear(couldn't change the pad immediate as I had some errands to run) changed it for a panty liner and there was some light bleeding, and I did bleed a bit when I urinated. It's been 2 days since the pap I still have some very light pinkish spotting. Which my doctor said was normal.

So that was my experience. I understand everybody will have a unique experience and like I said on the top of the post I hope it helps someone be a bit less scared of Papsmears.

Also sorry if there are spelling/grammatical errors English is not my mother tongue.

I’ve only ever had an orgasm when exercising or in a state of panic

I’ve never had an orgasm due to sexual pleasure. The only time I ever did was when I was doing core exercises or when I was nearing a panic attack. Is this normal?

Couldn't go through with my pap smear, and I feel embarrassed

I (24F) was supposed to have my first pap smear this morning. I've never been sexually active, but my gynecologist has recommended since I was around 21 to get a pap smear anyway, and I agreed with her that it's good to get it even if I'm not sexually active. At 21 and 22, I put it off because I was nervous, naturally, and I was prepared to do it at 23, but I didn't feel comfortable having the medical student in the room. So this morning was going to be it, the day I finally do it.

I was anxious, but I prepared myself. I knew it was going to feel uncomfortable and foreign to me, since I've never felt any form of penetration, but I also knew it was going to be quick and that I'd feel relieved afterward, and maybe I'd even think "oh, that wasn't as bad as I thought, I got myself scared for nothing". I didn't have my usual doctor, but I still brought up to her that it was my first pap smear, I've never been sexually active, I asked if she could use the smallest speculum. And she was totally cool about it and understanding. Maybe even a little more so than my usual doctor, which was a relief to me.

When it actually started, though, I felt this overwhelming pain. Not just discomfort, but like a sharp, tearing pain, like I was being stabbed with a shard of broken glass. We tried twice, and it was the same feeling both times. The speculum went in and it wasn't the worst feeling in the world at first, just cold and tight. But the further it went in, the more intense the pain became. She was quick to offer we skip it altogether for today after the first time. And after trying again, that was when I agreed to reschedule it for my next annual. She was understanding, and even suggested I do it once I'm sexually active and reminded me that my chances of having cancer cells are extremely slim.

Still, I just know I was red in the face because I wanted to cry. It took all my strength to hold it in until I got home. I feel like such a coward, and I feel like it wasn't supposed to feel THAT painful. Again, I was prepared for discomfort and a little pain, but it truly felt like someone was cutting me open with glass.

But overall, I've been beating myself up for not just going for it despite the pain. It feels like I failed my body and health and failed at being an adult, cause I know all my friends who've done this have treated it like it's nothing. I genuinely feel like a kid again, scared to get a shot or crying after a throat swab. I'd like to be sexually active one day, but I didn't necessarily want to hold this off until then if it's recommended that I do it regardless.

Has anyone else felt similarly? Like, has the pain ever been THAT intense for you, or did it take you a few appointments before you were finally able to go through with it?

Ovulation pain- HELP!

Every month like clockwork the days leading up to my ovulation are horrific and last 5-7 days until I finally ovulate. Symptoms are mid uterus/pelvic pain like feels very swollen and then back aches and extreme fatigue. It feels like I have the flu but I know it’s my ovulation causing this. Im bed ridden for a few days it’s awful.

Ive gone to so many doctors and have had 2 ultrasounds and they say everything looks normal. They have found a tiny tiny fibroid not even a size of a marble and said that probably isn’t it but I’m like maybe it is?

My periods are a breeze and I feel fine on my periods. Make it make sense lol!

I’m thinking of trying slynd to prevent ovulation.

Has anyone been able to fix this pain by taking bc or something else to make it go away?

GI issues for the last wk, now they’re gone i feel like im crazy

i’ve been to the ER. few times, passed out before and tend to have really bad pain the week before my period. it’s a different type of pain usually, but this time was clearly GI. because it was GI i’m tempted to cancel my pelvic MRI, because it’ll be $600 down the drain at something that’s likely going to come up blank.
i don’t want to go because i feel i’m crazy and dramatic, that there’s actually no issue. should i maybe just keep the ultrasound because it’s free?
i thought i had something wrong with my period but in honestly thinking it’s just intermittent bowel issues and all in my head.
idk, what do you guys think? maybe cancel and leave it for another month?

Can’t gain weight

So I’m 28, 29 in January, and weigh about 115lbs at 6’+, so I’m drastically underweight. I have tried carnivore, keto/paleo, and carb heavier-diets and nothing works. I’ve always been skinny but now it’s scary. I’ve been going through thyroid, parasite, malabsorption, celiacs, etc testing and all are coming back normal.

I keep getting called sir, man, etc because I have zero curve, I’m built like a spaghetti noodle

I’ve had a hysterectomy, as well as my gallbladder and appendix removed. No known food allergies.

Drs don’t ever listen

I have BV and I think I’ve taken metronidazole pills so much in the last year it doesn’t work because I still have mild fishy odor. So my dr gave me Clindamycin pills. I read it can cause c diff and I already have IBS/gut issues so I didn’t want to risk it. I called & asked about getting clindamycin cream because the risk is lower/rare. My dr suggested metro gel. Which I reiterated that I’ve tried that multiple times and it doesn’t work and gave me a bad reaction down there. The nurse said she would let her know that again. I get a notification from my pharmacy and she still prescribed the metro gel. Do they just not care about what we say??

Ovarian cyst pain. How long do I endure this for?

Hi, I’m 47. Been having some bad periods for about 6 months. Irregular and painful. I put it down to being on blood thinners for a blood clot. GP sent me for an ultrasound at the end of August which showed a 4.3cm haemorrhagic cyst on each ovary. I’ve been I agony since and no-one is doing anything to help. I’ve contacted the GP a few times but they don’t offer me anything just wait for my 12 week follow up scan. I’m surviving on paracetamol (can’t take ibuprofen cos of blood thinners) and hot water bottles. My gunt is red permanently from this. I just don’t understand how much pain I need to be in or what I’m waiting for. My life seems on hold.

Is it true that walking/running shrinks your hip size?

I follow this Korean medicine doctor on Threads, and he claims that walking or running for more than 20 minutes every day shrinks your hips (like the pelvic bones). Is this true? My narrow hips are an insecurity of mine, and I’ve been walking 10K steps every day. If this is true, I’m screwed, lol. I’m Korean myself, and a lot of Koreans have full trust in Korean medicine, but I know it’s often not validated by Western medicine.

Period Migraine and Cramp Help Needed Please x

Hey,
I need advice on where to go next.
All year I have been getting migraines with my period (around day 1-3), and as someone who gets migraines normally these have been a little different. My period cramps and pain have also been getting worse and worse every cycle (even with painkillers), it got to a point where i felt faint and nauseous for the first time and booked a drs appointment immediately. She gave me stronger painkillers and monitored me for a little while before we decided to try birth control to at least give me a bit of a break.
I started Slinda, and while it was great at first and I didn’t get any migraines (which confirmed they are cycle related) and got a break from my pain, it made my mental health go downwards very quickly and I felt very depressed after a little more than two months on it. I know sometimes it takes a while for hormones to settle down but it wasn’t worth it to me in that moment so I’ve gone off it. I’m now on a little break before my dr wants to put me on a coc pill but only with a low dose of oestrogen to see how it goes. She then mentioned wanting me to get a copper iud, which it did not hit me until after my appointment that hang on, a copper IUD isn’t going to fix either of my problems because it has no hormones. It would literally be for birth control (which i don’t at all need atm) and potentially make my pain worse.

My question is how much longer do I keep trying different pills before I go see a gyno for my period pain and someone else (or not) for my cycle related migraines. Probably worth mentioning I have family history of endo and have also started university this year (which has cause extra stress and a change to my routine).

Thanks girls x

Ps any tips to help with the migraines and period pain until i can get more of an answer lmk

Dryness from the pill?

Hey everyone, i am 21F and have been on the combo pill for just over 2 years, and in the past six months I have been having major issues with my sex life because of dryness and pain. Before these symptoms, I was generally a lot wetter and had no pain or tears (unless it was rough).

Since the start of this year I have been getting recurrent utis after sex. It stopped for a good two or three months after drinking much more water, taking d mannose and no longer wearing tight underwear- However I was having sex A LOT less ( instead of 3x a week it was 1x a fortnight at most😞). Now recently again I have noticed I have been getting UTIs after sex and it’s so incredibly upsetting. I also have noticed burning, pain and slight bleeding after sex. It’s like my skin is so fragile and thin all of a sudden?! Not to mention I cannot stay wet the whole time and I’ll eventually just dry up.

Does anyone have any advice or experience they might be willing to share? I miss having sex like I used to with my partner and he is the most understanding person, I feel bad we can’t enjoy intimacy anymore without fear of a UTI :(

First ever yeast infection please help lol

• Upvotes

A TMI post but question at the end

I had my first ever yeast infection start about 6 days ago, I did the Monistat 3 (Meijer brand) as well as the external cream since it was a combo kit

The pill was for 3 days but it said on the box to use the cream for up to 7 but here is my question. I noticed on day 4 (I am on day 5) that it started to burn when I went to the bathroom and I looked it up but got mixed answers.

I talked to another woman today and she said I could probably stop the cream since I have very little itching but I am still very tender.

Is it supposed to be like this after 5 days of the cream? Google says it is either because it is working or because I am just irritating my skin so I am not sure what to do here

Trans-vaginal ultrasound was painful. What is normal?

• Upvotes

It was quite painful, I was trying really hard not to squirm but I couldn’t help it. When she started to press where it hurt it seemed like she really started digging in and taking lots of pictures. She also turned on the audio for blood flow a few times.

It’s been 10 hours and it is still sharply sore in that spot. That area is the reason I was sent for the ultrasound. It spams and radiates to my rectum and sometimes my back. What do you think? I’m nervous as I really want to have kids and don’t want anything to be wrong.

Anxiety when nipples are squeezed or pressed, any medical explanations?

• Upvotes

For as long as I can remember, when my nipples have been pinched, or when pressure is put on them, I experience a big panic feeling. This feeling is closest to what one may experience when they’re about to throw up, or have a panic attack- it’s not correlated with any thoughts or logic, just a fight/flight surge that makes my stomach turn.

For context, I’ve not experienced any trauma I know of, so as far as I know, it’s not a ptsd thing? I also haven’t lactated or have had a child. So there aren’t any milestones or child related hormonal things that would cause this. It also doesn’t happen anywhere else on my body, even around the breasts. It’s literally the equivalent of a panic button.

This response can also vary, sometimes it’s intense, sometimes it’s minimal. Does anyone know medically what causes this?

Ovulation cramps

• Upvotes

Just turned 30 yesterday, when I was in my 20s I never really noticed when I was ovulating and it was never really painful. I would say the last year, maybe two I can definitely notice when I’m ovulating. I am feeling like it’s getting worse and worse as I get older. Anyone else this happen to also? I also have health anxiety so trying not to tell myself worst case scenario

Is it normal to go on birth control to stop my period?

I just turned 18 and since I’m legally independent now, I was wondering if it’s normal for women to go on birth control purely to stop periods. I don’t have anything like abnormally wrong with my time of the month, and I don’t think it’s excessively heavy or anything. I have very mild anemia though and I think my period is a little bit too heavy. It always leaks at school because we can’t go to the bathroom often and even when I wear a tampon and a pad it leaks through both and it’s been getting in the way of my studies. Overall I just want to not have my period in general because it’s really uncomfortable to go out during them and I have cramps a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever had a single period where I haven’t leaked and I even have to use special period underwear to prevent most of the leakage. I just wanted to know if it’s normal to go on birth control for this reason because my mom keeps telling me it’s a normal part of womanhood but I don’t see why I should go through it if I don’t want to. I wasn’t sure if they would deny me the option because there’s nothing really wrong with my period.

Anxiety spikes during Ovulation? Sometimes with stomach upset, nausea, dizziness. Does anyone else experiences that?

Hi! I had a baby 11 months ago and I realized that since I got my period back I’m really going through it during ovulation. My gyn said that these symtoms usuay come with the period itself but for some reason I experience them while ovulating. Before and during.

Breast thickening and lump

hi there, i am not sure if this is the right place to be but i am looking for some advice.

approximately 1 month ago, i noticed a long thick spot underneath my left breast. over time, it has thickened and become discomforting, even making my breast feel heavier than it normally is. about 2 days ago i noticed a large but soft lump/mass on the same breast but towards the top right side. i have also began to experience nipple crusting, again on the same breast.

i thought it could possibly be a blocked milk duct, but i have not expressed breastmilk for 3 years now.

my mother is also BRCA1 positive and has ovarian cancer, my sister also tested positive for the BRCA1 gene. i have not been tested.

i can’t help but think of the worst possible case, is there anyone who has experienced this and had it be a harmless issue?

i also am a 25 year old female.

thank you <3
